Pie R Squared serves pizza made daily by hand from scratch ranging from traditional favourites to unique creations. Located in the UBC Student Union Building (across from the UBC Aquatic Centre).
Food: The usually have no more than two pizzas to choose from when you order, so that kind of sucks. They only bring out fresh pizzas once an entire pizza has been sold, so it sucks to be the person who just bought the last slice of the 'old' pizza.
Value: It's alright at $2.75, portions are big.
Ambiance: Eat outside, the SUB is a terrible place to eat.
I recommend going to the Burger Pit instead. Much better food.
I can't believe there's been no review for this!!
Once upon a time, back when the Neanderthals were still around, I went to school there and lived on campus. I had many a frantic evenings before an exam or a project due with with a slice from Pie R2 to keep me going.
I now go to UBC to swim, and I occasionally stop in there to pick up a slice after a workout. In the 15 years since I left school, the only things that's really changed is the crust (it used to be more herb-y), and the price (still a steal at $2.75/slice and tastes way better than Flying Wedge).
They still have creative toppings, but my favourite is the baked potato with bacon.
Can't really comment on the "ambience" - it's in student union building, so it's not like you'll be taking a date there!!
One of the best pizza by the slice places in town! Imaginative topping combinations, almost hourly topping changes, not to mention a killer bacon, potato and cheddar pizza, keep this place hopping and buzzing! Make sure to get the dipping sauces because the crusts are sooo thick you can duct tape two of them and boomerang muggers with them! Anyway, it completes the UBC pizza experience, especially if you top it with the provided chili flakes and parmesan (gasp! illegal use of the word! I mean "grated cheese product").
I once saw inch wide broccoli florets. :O
Big slices, its a pretty good deal for the 2.75, plus where else on campus can you get food at 10:30pm?
Also, they use ingredients straight from the UBC farm in order to be more sustainable. There's a lot of cheese and lots of vegetables and lots of meat... well lets say lots of everything that they decide to put on the pizza.
Every once in a while there's something for the boring die-hards who like their plain pepperoni and cheese, but most often its a delicious alternative ie roasted tomatoes with feta and olives and green peppers and mushrooms and maybe potato slices or something
