Good pho

We started with spring rolls. They were hot, crispy and full of stuffing. There was also a generous bowl of nuoc cham for dipping. I appreciate the extra nuoc cham as I like to use it with the salad that comes with the rolls.
The pho here last night was very good. I had the dac biet #4 and my partner had beef balls and rare beef. The broth was very flavorful, probably the most tasty I've had in a while. The beef was tender and there seemed to be a good ratio of noodles and toppings to both bowls. The condiment plate was fresh: bean sprouts were crispy, generous helping of basil (not wilted, wedges of lime and thai chilies. So many other pho restaurants skimp out with providing chilies :(
Service was a little slower, but better than the last time we were here. (The last time the seated us, and then never came back....at all!)
One glaring thing that would have made the pho better would be the temperature of the broth. It wasn't as hot as it should be. Value for money is pretty solid (for vancouver pho places) as an appetizer and 2 regular bowls of pho came to just under $18.
On a side note: I find that with different pho restaurants the smell that lingers in your clothes when you leave varies from place to place. This particular place you reek of it. I don't know if it's a difference of ventilation or what, but be forewarned before you wear your "dry-clean only" attire in there. :) I would return to Pho Thai Hoa and recommend to friends.

Food: one of the few places that gives me the combo i like when eating pho: raw beef, tripe, and tendon. extensive menu selection. this place offers a lot of dishes we had to previously visit elsewhere to get but now it's all available at one place. i havent tried a lot of the dishes on the menu but i am a fan of the papaya salad. i do suffer fr thirst after consuming pho but that is true of most viet restaurants. they give you ample serving of sprouts and basil which i appreciate.

Service: be very very clear about what you want to order if ordering in english!! ive had a few mix ups with ordering #14 and getting #4 instead! i suggest saying what u want combined with pointing in the menu!! all 3 times ive had the mix up they have been accommodating in rectifying my order. food comes at a fairly decent rate.

Ambiance: nothing special. dont expect much in terms of decor and ambiance. there are 2 flat screen tvs, the place is usually full and busy meaning it's loud. try not to go to the washrm...i dont know about the mens washrm but the women's is really small and cramped. (ie the stall dr hits the toilet!) this is just a casual joint for some good food! dont try to impress your first date here!!

Overall: when in the mood for some pho this is our default restaurant to go to. it never disappoints.

Tasty, lots of choices, but lay off the MSG

We really wanted to like this place, we really did. We hit it to sample the Pho Ga to see how it compares to our gold standard (sadly, not in Vancouver). They have a very extensive menu, lots and lots of variety and things to choose from.
Well, it was decent. Not the best, but not so bad, but nothing amazing. We also ordered a big sampling rice dish with various meats and meat products and a fried egg/rice cake "pancake". That was very nice.

Service was very friendly, no complaints whatsoever and inside was reasonably clean.

Why the low food marks? Damnit if we weren't frothing at the mouth afterwards from all that MSG thirst! If they just lay off that stuff, we'd give it higher marks. We really want to come back, we really do, but the MSG would give us pause.

Whenever I have the craving for Pho I don't go anywhere else but Pho Thai Hoa. Their Seafood noodle in soup is excellent. Foods always super hot and fresh and the waitresses are very nice. I think they might have changed ownership but the food is still consitantly good.

A good choice for Viet-noodles

I had been a frequent goer- to this place. During one period, I stopped going there because the beef-meat and meatballs weren't fresh. Tasted like they're days old. Later on, they were ok again - so we started going back. The food is ok so long as they keep to the standard. Environment is rather poor I'd say - obviously dark. Good thing they didn't have carpet flooring like most other restaurants or else they would certainly smell strong too.
