Friendly family-run Vietnamese restaurant that offers delicious pho and other vietnamese cuisines as well as a comfortable setting.
I went with my wife to try out the pho, and it was good! I had the hot and sour with beef and prawns, and my mate had the Pho 66 special pho with assorted meats. Both were tasty and although I usually leave the soup behind, we both drank the hearty broth. We also had the spring rolls, which were good, but a little pricey at $4.50 for two little rolls. I didn't sample the iced coffee because it was late and I wanted to sleep later, but next time I will try it.
The ambience is little changed since it was Beanos, but it is clean and the service is good.
Recommended.
My buddy and I stopped by this place on Sunday, after i had read several positive reviews on it. It was 11 am on Sunday and we were the only ones there.
For a place to call it self a Pho restaurant, i was surprised by the lack of options the pho menu had. I ended up ordering the large bowl of assorted beef, which was $7.75. That's about $1.50 - $1.75 more than what i am used to paying for somethin comparable. My buddy had the large meatball noodles for $6.95. The bowls are a lot smaller than other places and there was not that much meat. However, the taste of the broth was quite good as were the noodles.
We springs rolls and salad rolls also. Springs rolls were okay, not as good as Bao Chao down the street. Salad rolls were okay, peanut dipping sauce was tasty, but the rolls were missing vietnamese ham or sliced pork.
so after tax and tip, it was $27. I probably wouldn't eat there again, as there are tons of better pho places around.
Dined here last night with another couple, one of who was new to the Pho experience. Based on past reviews I wanted to try this place as it is right on the BBY Van Border just off Boundary.
The service was quick and friendly and the tea was always topped, as was the ice water. The Pho was fantastic, as good or better than our usual Pho spot Bau chu (sp?) further up Hastings Street.
This place was much cleaner than most Pho houses and that always puts me at ease. The food itself was great, I had a large Beef and prawns hot&sour and the other couple went for a two-person dinner platter. All of it was fresh and delicious, especially the sweet soup severed with the platter, I have to get the name of that soup! the prices are about a buck more than usual but well worth it. I will definitely be back and would most definitely recommend!
Wow, a place that gives you plenty of ice in your water, what a change! The reason I like this place (besides the ice water) is that it is clean inside and it not too loud and busy. It is a very roomy restaurant and the place gets lots of natural light (Pho Hong, although good, is a little dungy inside). Now to the food..
Had the pleasure of trying the pho in the hot and sour soup with beef and prawns. It was just spicy enough to satisfy me (I can eat spicy) and it had just the right amount of sour - very refreshing soup indeed.
Overall, it was a good experience. The range of pho combinations is not as vast as other viet restaurants and the dishes are slightly more expensive but the service and cleaniness of the restaurant more than make up for it. If that's not enough, the waitress is pretty cute too!
Pho 66 is suppose to be a pho joint. When you walk it it looks like an old diner that should be serving eggs benedict with 25 cent coffee. Very cozy booth seating, or if you choose table seating, nice open view of East Hastings.
The first thing that got me was the waiter who approached our table: he was Asian! I expected a surly older white lady, sorta like the one you expect to see at a truck-stop diner. He was polite and smiling. I ordered what was on the menu: pho.
When it's rainy and cold, I want my pho hot! I understand some pho restaurants don't want their broth to be piping hot because it overcooks the beef. But the broth in Pho 66 was downright lukewarm. What a disappointment. Then came the condiments, they lacked some of the usual accoutrements that come with your pho bowl. Nope, just lime and bean sprouts this time. Then the broth itself: bland as a cloudy Vancouver afternoon. Now I see why people order the won ton when they come here.
Went there with partner for quick and cheap lunch while running errands late last week.
Had the cups of won ton soup. Absolutely one of the tastiest and best. Split a pork hash on vermicelli noodles with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, carrots and sprouts. First time to have this dish and it was very fresh, tasty and filling. Came with sauce with shredded carrots. You didn't feel overly full.
Have been there a few times prior as the won ton is great but I have been told that the cup version of the won ton is the best one.
Been here a number of times, but I don't come for the Pho as others mention. I feel the absolute best wonton soup served in this town is here. This is exclusively to the SMALL size, not the large. For some reason the flavor and seasoning of the small just has it. The other item here is the Pork Hash. No other vietmanese venue offers it like this. These are perhaps the two best dishes in their catagories in Vanc. Try them , I stop there just for the Wontons.
wow where can i start? the deep fried spring rolls are delicious. the shrimp salad rolls are always fresh. the pho is to die for. the rice entrees are terrific while the service is fantastic. the place is clean and booths you get to sit are nothing but comfortable. oh and of course my favourite.. deep fried banana with icecream.. just thinking of it makes me wanna go there RIGHT NOW! if you haven't eaten here yet, this place is something you can put on your "to do" list. i would definitely recommend to pho lovers & for those who havent tried vietnamese food yet.
PS: this place IS better than bao chau because at least when you eat at pho 66, you'll feel like you matter as a customer or friend.
Can't say enough good about this place. Admittedly, the location at Boundary & Hastings is a little shady, but not actually that bad.
The restaurant's exterior is a depressing old thing and doesn't give much clue to its quality. Inside, however, the place is surprisingly well-kept, and reliably very clean. I've yet to encounter so much as a smudged window in my many visits here. The bathrooms are mostly original and thus not very pretty, but again, clean is the word of the day.
Nothing I've ordered here has ever been been even slightly short of fresh, and - especially if you're used to chain pho like at Pho Hoa - has always been thoughtfully presented and delicious. I'm a fan of all things spicy, so the hot & sour pho with beef and prawns is a favourite; their beef is always very flavourful and the prawns are big and fresh. By comparison, I find the regular (un-spicy) soups a little tame, but that's likely more a product of my affinity for melting my taste buds than their soup itself.
Appetizers like spring and salad rolls are always good here. The vermicelli bowls make for a perfect light meal on a non-soup day. The beef in the one we ordered was surprisingly thick, but very tender and not overly sauced, with crisp lettuce and shredded carrot filling out the bottom half of things.
If you've never had Vietnamese coffee, here's the place to do it.
The service is genuinely cheerful and pretty efficient, even with a full house. Tea is brought around regularly, but not to the point of being an annoyance.
Whether you're new-ish to Pho or have been enjoying it for a while, Pho 66 is a treat.
A Vietnamese family owned restaurant has a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food is always great and fresh, with mu favourite being any of the vermicelli dishes. A perfect place for casual days when you just don't feel like cooking but still want a healthy meal (without the high cost). Also great for those students on a budget - their soups are a fantastic deal. A great value in both the food and cost.
Based on other reviews, I decided to drop by this place to satisfy my Phở cravings. Since it was on a weekend on an afternoon, most of the tables were empty. The attendants looked like teenagers; however, they were quite cheerful and respectful (no teenager I-don't-give-a-damn attitude, that is). They also were quite good in making sure the tea cup was full.
The menu was varied but, oddly, the selection of Phở was a bit limited. Had the "special" Phở (large) and an order of spring rolls. They came out in about 5 minutes. The rolls were crisp, which is a good thing to contrast the Phở. As for the Phở itself, it was flavorful without being salty.
If I am in the area again, will definitely drop by again.
Interesting, I had quite an opposite experience as the last reviewer. I have cravings for pho from time to time, and this place is in my neighbourhood, so I come here once in a while.
I ordered the house special 66 pho and the ingredients are all very fresh. The raw beef is tender and juicy. And unlike some places I went before, the basil leaves are all green (no dark spots which indicate it's been in the fridge for a while). And I received all the basic condiments that accompany pho: basil, chilli, bean sprout and lemon (should be lime).
However, there is still room for improvement. Service can be slow at times. And I wish the portion can be a little more generous.
I'm not saying it's the best pho I have ever tried before. But for a neighbourhood restaurant, I can't complain.
Pho 66 is not a bad place to go for lunch. It is usually not packed and the waiter (also the owner, I believe) is very nice. He allows us to take our time, explains what some things are and is very accomodating to the needs of customers.
The food was good but I think for large appetites a small will not do you justice. The price is fair - consistent with other places.
It's so refreshing to finally go to a Vietnamese restaurant that appreciates your business. I've been to quite a few Vietnamese restaurants around town and the service has always been quite poor. It's nice to finally not have to feel like I'm being a pain in the butt when I want to order my food or want my drink to be refilled. Good food too!
I live in the neighborhood so when im in desperate need for pho but dont wanna go to great lengths to get it, i come here. I'm quite suprised with the other reviews on this site for this restaurant as ive gone there quite a bit. Im guessing the reviews come from people who are not vietnamese. The pho is ok, price is regular, but the amount of meat with your noodles is pretty sparing. Neverless the owner is incredibly friendly and so is the teenage girl working there. Always refilling your tea and the environment is a bit relaxing. As i said before tho, pho is just, ok.
I've always enjoyed coming here to eat because:
- food is good, price is decent
- service is great! it's family owned and they're always nice and attentive. I've stayed here for hours to study before and they still came around pouring tea :)
- I like the comfy booths!
