Panos is a Greek restaurant near Fraser on Southeast Marine Drive.
I live near here and many friends who also live in the area also come here since the next closest Greek place is at least a 15 minute drive.
The location is on busy Marine Drive tucked in the corner of a mixed-use building. There's not much street traffic so it's not like one would stroll by and drop in.
Decor is warm and the servers are welcoming and friendly. I've exclusively stuck to the Roast Lamb here. It's melt-in-your-mouth delectable. Seasoned well and fork tender with some fat it's a sure fire pleaser for lamb lovers. It's been a while since I've come here but last I had it I remember it had a nicely seared outside and was bone-in. Lofty portions. The homous is also a safe bet with the nicely toasted pita. Calamari is fried well, crispy yet tender and light on the stomach.
Kitchen service is a little on the slower side but the servers are friendly. I have come here as part of a larger group on several ocsasions and they are up to snuff.
Prices are reasonable and I can't help but think their prices would be higher if they were in a better location.
Don't let their location and first impression fool you. It's good to know there's a solid Greek place in my neck of the woods.
I’ve been going to this place for awhile and I love it. The room is painted a really soft yellow, I just find it very cheerful and pretty, especially for a Marine Drive strip mall.
The food is so good, some days are better than others. On the best days, the seafood is cooked perfectly, and on other days, it’s still pretty good. The garlic prawns and chicken souvlaki are my favorites. I’ve had the salmon which is so tender, but I find kind of tasteless. A friend really liked the ribs, which are fall-off-the-bone. They also make a good, dark-roasted cup of coffee, but it depends on the waitress.
I have also had a couple of servers I haven’t been so crazy about. But the regular servers are fantastic, and the food is delicious, so I keep coming back.
After reading the previous review, I feel very fortunate that my experience at "Panos" was so pleasant!
My husband, in-laws, & myself dined at "Panos" last night, around 6:30 p.m.. It was a Tuesday, if that means anything to anyone. Our hostess & server graciously offered us our choice of many tables upon our arrival and had a friendly & efficient manner when taking our orders & serving our meals.
I had the larger of the two 'appetizers for 2' because I wanted to try a little bit of 'everything' on this, my first visit. WOW. I was very happy with the quality of the items. I am used to more of a 'kick' when I eat hummus, but I had no trouble devouring it here. I definitely want to return.
I use the term 'mediocre' to mean just okay. Nothing necessarily wrong with it, but nothing to draw me back or rave about. It was nice to try a Greek beer that I haven't heard of before, and it was very good. The decor of the place is nice; I could have felt like I was relaxing on the beautiful shores of Greece but the Cyndi Lauper had me grounded in Marpole. The service was decent but not fantastic. My companion's spanakopita was quite good, but I was disappointed with my vegetarian moussaka. It reminded me of a frozen entree out of a box. It wasn't awful, but it didn't compare to moussaka I've had elsewhere in Vancouver.
I've passed this place a million times but it wasn't until an anniversary that I decided to take my wife. From the outside, it doesn't look too appealing or visually forthcoming but once inside, it truly is a gem.
I ordered the prawn souvlaki, my wife had the lamb and we shared an order of the fried feta (come on, fried cheese? it doesn't get better)
The staff must be family operated because they had so much passion about making each guest's experience amazing.
We will definitely be going back.
Another person here for the ajl dinner. Dinner here was great, had a moist and tender roasted lamb at 16 dollars. Used to eating at stephos, but will never go back there after having tried panos. Calamari appetizer, excellent. Saganaki, excellent, Chicken livers, excellent...you get the picture.
bye bye stephos!
Went here with friends for the ajl dinner. Restaurant looks mad shady, was completely empty at 5 30 - the restaurant was full by 6 00...whoa momma.
Food: Delicious, reasonable greek food. Had chicken souflaki and spinikopita for under 20 bucks. Server was very attentive, but I found her a little annoying. Anyways, good stuff.
A friend of mine had suggested I try Panos, so I did. I ordered the steak dinner and oh my god was it good. I have had steak at the Keg and some other steak places only to pay high prices to get lousy steaks. But Panos steak beat them in price and quality. The rest of my family enjoyed their food as well. Our server Jenny was awesome. I highly recommend Panos prices are very reasonable. Will be making Panos a regular stop and it seems they have quite a lot of regular customers.
I've taken my family and friends to Panos for months now, and everything is simply fabulous every time. It's gotten to the point where I've tried everything on the menu, except the pastas, and I've found everything to be exceptional.
My only criticism is that the outside of the building looks quite shady and unappealing at first, they type of restaurant that gets overlooked quite easily. But the inside of the restaurant is warm and cozy!
If you are eating here for the first time, one of the dinner platters for two might be a good start. For just shy of 40 dollars, you get enough food to feed at least 3 people! I think they have it based on a meat platter and a seafood platter, but you'd have to double check. Heads up, the prawns at this joint are just exploding with flavor, the best I think i've ever had!
Dont bother asking about daily specials, they'll tell you the same thing every time. Every item on the menu is good enough to be a special. Their signature dish, a roast lamb dinner for 14 bucks, is absolutely massive, tender and juicy. They usually sell out by 8 30 or 9, so if you're in the mood for it you should grab some early.
The service and atmosphere is excellent and perfect for casual dining. Jenny is my usual server, and she is wonderful! I've had the owner's son as well, and he's taken the time to explain the menu to me on several occasions, and he always has something for my daughter to do. Stay away from the blonde one though, I haven't had her personally but she seems like a sack of loose marbles
I love the food here, I love the people here. Panos is great, and from what I can see, its been a local favorite for a long time.
Everything was good! I always eat food at the greek festival, and i liked the souvalki there but the souvlaki at panos was much better. For dinner i had the mixed souvlaki which had chicken lamb and beef. Everything tasted good.
for 12 dollars i was served: souvlaki, rice, potatoe, salad, pita, satsiki. Delicious!!
I dont know much else i can say. The restaurant was cozy, and very casual which I like. I just live across the bridge so I think I will be coming back here very often.
Truly a hidden gem. I've driven past this place on many occassions and I've been meaning to try it. Finally last night, my wife and I used our entertainment coupon and had a fabulous time. Don't let the fact the restuarant is tucked away in a strip mall in the corner deter you from going.
Ambiance: The place was nicely decorated, yellows and blues with some pictures. It wasn't "loud" in a sense, it was pleasant. Don't let the outside of the building fool you.
Food: We ordered the roast lamb, homus and calamari appy. All three were pretty good. The roast lamb dish came with a side of greek salad, half a potato, rice, but no veggies. It was too much food for 2, so we packed some to go.
Service: We had excellent service on a Friday night (7pm). We were greeted prompted and the hostess who also doubled as a waitress was cheerful and pleasant. Our waitress was very nice. There was good communication and interaction. The place was 70% full and there was only 2 of them, however, they made it work. We were impressed in the efficient manner they handled the customers. The food was also brought to us in a reasonable time.
Value: I would recommend this place. Even if you do not have the entertainment coupon. The prices are reasonable.
Overall, this was a very nice place to dine. Heck, we got better service here than some other places that had double the staff.
Went there tonight with the family. This place is not that big inside and gets filled pretty quick. Our server was very nice. The food came quick too.
We started with an appetizer calamari to share. It was good but they don't give you much for 7.95. Two of us had the roasted lamb, and one had the mix beef/lamb/chicken souvlaki and the other one had the baby back ribs. Don't order the baby back ribs, was dry and not that tasty, it's not a place for ribs. The souvlaki was just okay, a bit dry too but good flavour. Definitely go for the roasted lamb, it's so tasty and moist and tender. The two that didn't order the lamb had regretted their decision. Next time, everyone of us will just order the roasted lamb, it's that good.
We've been dining here for many years. Eat-in or takeout - both great!
Great value and great service from a family run operation. Very friendly staff to serve you.
Our favorites: lamb dinner, mosaka and calamari.
Nice to be able to sit and hear yourself in a restaurant.
Parking can be difficult at times but better than d/t
Everything is as it should be and what you would expect for a family greek place. Kinda cute, too. The chicken souvlaki dinner is plentiful and the chicken is really tasty. The tzatsiki is nice, and so is the potato, although I thought they could throw in more than one half per meal. We did take out, but will probably go for sit down meal next time. Good for family, or a low-key quick outing for a couple.
Yeah, also here for the ajl. I thought everything was ok, everyone around me seemed to enjoy it. I had the salmon, and regretted it after seeing everyone's food. It tasted ok, thought it was a bit dry. Tried a friend's lamb - go for the lamb lol. Good service, cheap prices. Stephos is closer to me, but I think panos is better overall. Cheers!
Pano is simplely a great place for my family to go for a relaxing evening of casual dining. It is always busy and the service is top notch. The portions are usually huge and we always have left overs to take home.If you like lamb, you will not be disappont at Pano.Give Pano a try and you be a repeat customer.
Fantastic lamb and kalamari, great service, and helpful patrons as our table was discussing what to try. The restaurant fills up fast and reservations are accepted, I suggest getting there early. Pano's seems to be a popular neigborhood establishment and was very popular amongst family's the night I was there. Wonderful place to begin the night and casual date.
Great restaurant that serves up solid food every time. Owners are half greek half some sort of asian ethnicity. For what you get the prices are simply amazing, 14 bucks for a lamb dinner that most places would charge around 25 for, 12 bucks for a great steak.....simply wow. There's a reason this place is always packed.
I always come around 5 30 to beat the dinner rush
of all the restaurants that family has take us to during our visit, panos was our favorite because everything was just great. The foods that they serve are quite tasty, and just good for my price paying. Dinner for me and my husband was only $30.00, which is entree 2 and 2 appetizers!
I had a prawns baked with cheese, and it was the best prawns i've ever had, just loaded with flavors. I also had a dip of humus, which was very garlicky and spicy, and just absolutely delicious.
My waitress was very friendly, and she talks to be about my home country so I am glad to see that panos girls are so friendly! When I am back in vancouver, I will eat again here.
I'd like to say that everything about this little place is fantastic - except for the blonde waitress that served me. We arrived for dinner, WITH a reservation last saturday. We were greeted by a waitress who obviously was frazzled. She rudely asked us how many we needed, and when informed about our reservation, sat us at our table without even giving us place settings or water. After about 5 minutes, we finally flagged down the male server who gave us our menus.
The food was incredibly good, especially for the price. I had the roast lamb, which was moist and tender, and only 14 dollars. My wife had the halibut steak, which was good and the children shared a kalamari appetizer.
Unfortunately, the idiot of a waitress was incredibly slow, despite looking completely frazzled and busy. We tried several times to get her attention to take our orders. When she finally did, she messed our order up and gave my kids some prawn dish. Furthermore, when our food was up, I could hear the chef ringing the service bell from the kitchen. The male server checked several times, and I knew it wasnt his food, which means that it was probably my family's food considering it was 8 30 and everyone else had their dinners. Finally, the male server brought us our food - it's obvious the waitress is totally incompetent.
From then on, the male server took care of us and he was very good. He checked up on our food and refilled our water constantly. Our dishes were cleared as soon as we were finished, and our leftovers were packed nicely. However, when we asked for the bill, he informed us that he would have to get the waitress to bring it because she had our bill. We had to wait another 10 minutes just to get it.
Everything about this restaurant is fantastic except for that one waitress. I strongly recommend she be fired. Next time, if i get anyone else except for her I will enjoy my evening out, but if i get her i'm leaving. Great service other than her, the male server is the only reason i gave the service a solid rating.
