Good place for lunch!

You can't beat the price, as per previous comments $5.50 for all that food and the female owner friendly service can't be beat. Yup, their Pad Thai sucked, too much ketchup. Go for their fried rice special, or egg plant with chicken or curries, can't go wrong for the price. You won't leave hungry. I used to go there at least once a week when I worked closeby.

Cheap Tasty Lunch

The prices are cheap, the food is tasty and you get large portions.
We had the Ginger chicken and the Yellow Chicken curry. Both were good and came with a spring roll. Total Bill $12 for two.

The place is busy and only one waitress who is run off her feet. So be patient, and be nice to the hard-working waitress.

Food was ok but service was poor

I liked the food but the service was not good. It was late around 9:00pm but they were busy with take out orders. No other patrons in the restaurant. The food was good but the service was very average. This is a family run restaurant with small children playing in the back. The owner's try hard and our curry was just average. It had lots of chicken but the taste was bland and not spicy like Thai food. I would go back to try it again. I do love going to Thai House as the atmosphere is much better but so are the prices.

Good Thai on the East side...
By cakone of Richmond (52 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:37am [Dine in]

A friend and I decided to order from here last night. Being on the east side, there aren't a lot of good Thai restaurants that I know of. And, we didn't want the usual long wait for the Thai House to deliver from Kits either. Decided to take a try on this place and it was worth it!

We ordered the spring rolls, which were of course typical to most Thai restaurants - solid. We also ordered the yellow chicken curry and coconut rice. WOW, the curry was amazing... I did not want to stop eating! Bright beautiful yellow colour, with red and green peppers and huge chunks of pineapple, with just the right spice.

Can't rate the ambiance as we had delivery, but I'll give it a 3 just to be nice. Ha-ha.

I can't wait to go back to my friend's house to order from here again!

Cheap + Tasty + Fast What more can you ask for?

I work right by this place and I'm addicted to their food.
They're famous for their lunch specials. i know because every time i visit this place they're always packed. That ought to be a good sign.

For about 7$ you get curry+rice+a spring roll and green tea. They do not compromise on taste at all. Portion sizes are very generous And there are a lots of options for vegetarians

My personal favourites are red curry and their crispy noodles with oyster sauce. I keep coming back at least once a week . Can never get tired of it

Service is always good. You can tell its a family run restaurant and the owners are very passionate about this place.

If you live close by and like Thai food you have to come here for lunch and there's no way you'll be disappointed.

Portions are huge. The pad thai came on the plate and the amount of noodles spanned a good 12 inches across in length and 6 inches in width and 2 inches in height. I thought that it was meant for two people. For $8.95 there was a very generous portion of shrimp in the pad thai. It seemed for awhile that every spear of the fork seemed to snag a piece of shrimp. The shrimp was definitley fresh, plump and cooked well. Not rubbery or 'dehydrated'. I'm not a thai food expert, but I've had pad thai at Wild Rice in Gastown, and I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. "Ketchupy?" Not that I could tell.

Usually I have to go to 'all you can eat' types of deals to feel full and this place had me stuffed, and no I'm not overweight. I'm 5'8" and 150lbs. I have a fast metabolism. Very rarely am I stuffed. Here I was.

The lady is polite, but busy, it took her awhile to get me seated, she was answering the phones. Seems like take out is a big thing.

It wasn't busy when I went in. The ambience is on the lacking side, with lots of cold hard surfaces, but the service is earnest and honest. It's a restaurant where a family works it and where the restaurant supports the family. I enjoy this kind of restaurant, much more than the chain restaurants. I feel that my business helps to support a family instead of some kids makeup and cellphone expenses.

An honest, earnest restaurant.

Pad Thai should change it's name
By banany of Vancouver (37 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, June 18, 2007 - 5:04am [Dine in]

I haven't actually been to Pad Thai, but I ordered delivery so I gave it a 3 for ambiance since I don't really know. For a place called Pad Thai you'd think they would have really good Pad Thai. Well, it wasn't good. The noodles were sticky and there was an overwhelming ketchup taste. The portion sizes were generous, but the food was just okay so what's the point of generous portion sizes if I don't want to eat it!

always busy at lunch, must arrive BEFORE 12:00
By I-like-pies of Vancouver (23 Reviews)

We always make the long walk here for lunch and it is always busy, especially on a Friday.

But the food is excellent and the waitress always comes out quickly with the food.

YOu get a mini veggie spring roll with it and tea (if you as), otherwise you get water.

The Pad Thai noodles is so much I have to bag it for dinner sometimes. The doggie bag is a self service kinda thing. Once you go there often enough, you kinda just grab the styro containers youself. The waitress doesn't mind, as she is too busy anyways.

Typical green, red, yellow curry fare. Then you get the stir fry stuff with Thai/Chinese sauces.

Lunch menu is 5.95.

There used to be a similar restaurant with pretty much the exact same menu close by, but that place closed down due to Skytrain construction. Glad this one is here.

Tasty and Hearty Lunch for only $5.50
By nelsonh of Vancouver (20 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 2:49pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant for take-out lunch, and their lunch special is very good. For $5.50, you get a decent size entree with one spring roll. And there are over 17 entrees to choose from.

I ordered 4 entrees on the lunch special menu. 1) The red curry chicken was flavourful and the chicken was quite tender. Definitely the best out of the four. 2) The green curry beef was not bad, but nothing special. 3) The pad thai with shrimp tasted like ketchup with hot spice; not exactly Thai, but my co-workers liked it - I didn't. 4) The chicken with peanut sauce doesn't taste good. It's not the satay peanut sauce, but more like peanut butter.

Since I ordered take-out I didn't experience its service. But from observation it seems the restaurant is quite busy during lunch time, and there's only one waitress. As for ambiance, it's your typical Chinese place but with dim lights.

Overall, I think the $5.50 lunch, given its decent taste, big portions and the number of choices, is probably one of the best deals in town. Just order the right things. Oh, and they have free delivery - not sure if it's for dinner only.

Excellent lunch takeout
By marspball of Coquitlam (38 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 4:22pm [Dine in]

I used to work 5 minutes away from this little gem. $5 for lunch, you can't go wrong with that. The food is tasty and the portion is huge. I've tried most of their lunch specials.

I recommend the curries, chicken eggplant, and blackbean chicken. The pad thai is very blant so stay away from it. Also tried the soup, very blant...not recommended. But the curries are excellent.

Service is very bad during busy lunch hours. This place handles hundreds of takeout orders per day and they only have one waitress working. She is very friendly and provides good customer service...but one person can only do so much. I recommend take out rather than eat-in. And always call ahead to place your order or you will face long wait. Again $5 for a lunch item + spring roll, you can't beat that.

Best&Fastest Delivery Option
By jjsararas of Vancouver (2 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, May 2, 2009 - 1:57pm [Dine in]

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. I always order the yellow curry with prawns, comes with red & green peppers, bamboo shoots and pineapple. I literally lick the plate it is so good. But the amazing thing is, the first time I ordered delivery, it felt like I hung up the phone and the door buzzer rang. Seriously. I thought I was in a cartoon. I checked my cel phone for what time I had called. 14 minutes had passed from ordering, to the food being at my door. Second time, 18 minutes. Unbelievable, when you consider a simple pizza takes 35-45. I asked the guy if they just have big pots of curry ready to go. No, it's made fresh.

And sure you can get really exotic flavours at, say, Banana Leaf, but I'm telling you, this curry is delicious. I also got the breaded calamari, which comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce and it is really good too - because it's still piping hot. And generous portions - $16 total bill and I ate three meals out of a yellow curry and large coconut rice.

If you're trying to decide what to get for delivery that's fast and delicious, this place beats anything.

BTW (I only said '2' for Ambiance because I've never been inside. It could be a palace for all I know.)

Great food, good service and fair prices
By ryanthekiwi of Fairview, Vancouver (8 Reviews)

The curries are the star here. Although all dishes I've tried are a hit (except the ketchupy pad thai), the curries keep me coming back. Red, yellow or green with your choice of beef/chicken or prawns. About 10 bucks for a good size serving.

They always have just the right amount of spice for me, and served piping hot. Delicious. Also a bonus is that the servers speak and understand English well. I usually customize my dishes a bit so it's nice to feel reassured that the food will come out correct.

The only downsides are there is little to no atmosphere inside, and it is obviously been designed as primarily a take-out place with a few tables available for those wishing to dine in.

cheap lunch eats... bad service
By bumblebee7 of Vancouver (32 Reviews)

I've had better Thai food but it's a great value for lunch with 18 lunch special at $5.95 each.
With the exception of the three Soup dishes, each specials include steamed rice and spring roll.
The restaurant itself is very small. There seems to be only one main serving staff and the occasional person that comes out from the kitchen to deliver food.

Lunch portion sizes tend to be bigger when you eat in than take out.

The Pad Thai was decent and the portion was very good for the price.

Cheap and Tasty!

I have eaten in once and have had takeout once. The portions are huge -enough to feed 5, so with only 2 people you don't get to try much unless you want leftovers for days. We haven't had the pad thai so I can't comment but you MUST order the papaya salad! (without the shrimp) It is sooo yummy. Refreshing and delicious with a wonderful crunch. The food is fresh and really good. My husband loves the cashew chicken and he is really picky about his poultry. Just don't eat in unless you don't mind a drafty, cheap and bland room. Also kudos on the recyclable containers and not using styrofoam (although the traditional Chinese food containers are greener)

Delivery Service is horrendous!
By midnitejazz of Grandview, Vancouver (2 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - 1:10pm [Dine in]

We have ordered food from this place for over a year and in most cases the service and the food has been fine. However, the last time we ordered food for delivery we were treated very poorly. So poor that I had to join this site to vent out my frustration and anger.

When we ordered our food we were told that it would be delivered within the hour. We waited until it was an hour and 15 minutes before we called to see why we did receive our food yet.

The first response we got was "Would you like to cancel the order?"
I replied no because our kids were hungry and it would take more time to re-order food somewhere else. Then I was passed onto the manager/owner who said that our order had not been started yet. At this point, I was p*ssed off. I asked if she would give some sort of concession given the circumstances. She outright said no. At this point, I was forced to tell her that she just lost our business.

Have a curry, go home stuffed!
By Turquoise of East Vancouver (5 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, April 1, 2007 - 10:00pm [Dine in]

I've been to Pad Thai for lunch several times in the last few months. For $5.50 (the special is until 5pm) you can pig out on a mound of rice & a good sized bowl of curried veggies & meat, swimming in sauce, plus a spring roll & as much tea as you can drink. I honestly think a healthy portion would be half that much... but I can't help myself: I always eat it all.

I usually have either the yellow curry or the red curry, both with chicken. The curry is nicely spiced, keeps you warm for a while, but doesn't quite make your nose sweat. They really don't cheap out on the chicken--tender white meat & a lot of it. The spring rolls are good--if a littly oily--hot, crispy & their dipping sauce is nicely sweet & spicy.

A word of warning: several people I've eaten there with have had the pad thai & none have really liked it. Kind of funny that the restaurant's named after their weakest offering...

A thing that I really appreciate about this place is the tea: decent quality jasmine, not steeped enough to be bitter. A lot of low-priced asian restaurants really cheap out on the tea, but not Pad Thai.

I've always found the service there quite friendly. The food arrives in minutes & when it's not too busy, your teacup will never be empty for long.

I suppose they could improve on the ambiance a bit--the walls are somewhat bare, but they've painted it & the place is clean. For the price, I don't really expect four-star decor...

All in all, this place is worth a try.

Tonight I ordered cashew chicken, ginger beef, and a small order of rice for $24. I ordered at 7pm and it only took half an hour. Delicious! They are generous with the meat, and it is good quality. No questionable fatty bits. The order was enough to feed 2 hungry adults and we still have enough for 2 more meals. Great value! I will definitely order delivery from them again.

Fast and Hot Delivery!

I'm going to be eating leftovers all week - huge portions! The cashew chicken and ginger beef were very tasty, just spicy enough for me. The rice noodles weren't anything special but the veggies were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were pretty standard. For a fast and hot delivery it was pretty impressive, I would order it again and will try out some curry next time!

Very Very good Thai Food - One of the best
By apfeffer of Vancouver (east) (1 Review)
Submitted Thursday, June 6, 2013 - 11:14am [Dine in]

I eat here often and love this place!! Its a mom and pop shop. So service can be a challange with all the phone calls and the 11 tables. Hey its a busy place at Lunch - but the food, the portion and the price make up for it. Dinner can be a bit quieter and very enjoyable.
Most of the items are 100% Thai based but some have been Chinese fusioned by the owners - at least they are being creative
The place is due for a good paint job and some decor - but like I said its a Mom and Pop shop
They give you a great portion at a very reasonable Price !!! Lunch is $7.50 dinner prices are $11-14 a dish

Items myself and friends really enjoy:
Yellow and Red Coconut Curry ** Really really good #1 choices****
Cashew Chicken
Pad Thai with Shrimp (tons) - they make it with ketchup sauce not peanut!!
Spicy Thai Eggplant and chicken (get it extra spicy - wow flavour!!)
Cold Lettuce wraps (hot filling - not the salad!!) is a huge appy for 3 people to share
Chili fried Rice
Lots of Vegetarian items ( my friends rave)
Deep fried Ginger Beef
Spring rolls are very good!!

Check them out - I bring new friends with me every time and they go crazy over the place. This place has to bet onto "Diners Drive Thrus and Dives"
I hope my review helps you decide what thai place to enjoy

Amazing lunch specials
By janjan of Vancouver (5 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 12:42am [Dine in]

Pad Thai has great lunch specials for $5.50. I think this price is really good since you get the main dish and a spring roll. The dishes can be made vegetarian at your request.

I love the yellow curry with chicken. It's so flavourful and has bell peppers and pineapple chunks. Like other reviewers have said, the pad thai isn't that great and has too much ketchup sauce. So go with the fried rice and curries.

The place is really small too (maybe 10 tables) so many people would order take out instead. The woman owner is really nice and friendly. I enjoy coming here to get thai food because I know you can get a large portion of tasty food at a cheap price.
