Oyster Express offers high quality oysters, seafood and soul food.
Had a craving for some raw stuff so dropped by this little oyster bar on a corner in Chinatown. Ordered some raw oysters and a beer. They're only a buck each on weekdays between 3 & 6pm. Limit one dozen per person. They came nicely presently on a bed of ice with lemons, fresh grated horseradish and two kinds of sauce. Perfect!
The place is small so can easily fill up. There's a small counter by the window. The menu also includes chowders (which was also excellent), sandwiches, steamed mussels, smoked salmon, desserts, wine and spirits.
Service is friendly and fast. Owners are working there too. Parking is easy on the street most days. Closed Mondays.
Passed this place by a few times I guess it never really registered on me anyway I hit it up for lunch one day earlier this month.
Half a dozen Oysters and some Corn Bread were an excellent introduction-I let them pick the Oysters can't remember what they were but all three (X2) were delicious but quite different.
Service was fast 'n friendly as befits an owner/operator run operation-he knows his business- I spotted a galley slave in the tiny kitchen too.
It's a cool little place in an ancient (for Vancouver anyway) building on a back street in Chinatown that has a surprising amount of foot traffic-well worth checking out.
