Yesterday, during valentine, my girlfriend wanted me to surprise me with a little lunch that she planned. She brought me to this place in a blind fold. Having lived in Vancouver for most of my life, the moment she uncovered my eyes I knew I was near the industrial part of Vancouver. I was really not expecting much coming into this place. However, the moment I walked up the old, rustic wooden stairs and into the small white door, I was amazed at the decors in the restaurant! The red back drop really worked with the dark wood flooring and the white accents of the room. It felt like a genuine European cafe.
We arrived a little bit early for lunch (about 11:45am) and the chef/owner actually came out and greeted us. Throughout the course of the meal the chef came out a couple time to make sure everything was perfectly spot on. At first I thought the chef only did this due to the lack of customers that was present during the time, but I was proven wrong. Even when the cafe was packed, the chef came out and greeted each individual guest as and tried as much as possible to make sure every little detail of EVERYONE's meal was spot on. I have rarely seen this amount of passion and ownership for one's creation ( this is coming from a guy who has been to restaurants that served food from $1000 range). I was very pleased with the chef's attitude towards his guest. His passion for food really made this already wonderful dining experience even more so!
The main course we had for that lunch was a simple grilled tuna salad. This salad was one of the most delicious salads that I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The dressing was a simple balsamic honey dressing, but the balance of taste from the tangy sweetness of the balsamic and the touch of honey and lime was spot on! This simple dish really demonstrated the skills and the passion that the chef possesses.
Overall I was very pleased with my dining experience and will definitely come back with more friends.
Really good burger and nice service.
The chef was the server when I was there. A very nice young man who put a lot of care into cooking our meals. The eggnog latte I ordered was well made too.
Very friendly service
Good variety of choices
Soup of the day is always good
Haven't noticed any cons yet
Food: very fresh, tasty home cooked meals. My husband had a rice bowl and I had the breakfast quesadilla. Lots of fresh veggies and cooked to perfection.
Service: For a cafe, the service was warm, attentive, and upbeat. The owner, Powell, was the server and chef. Our tea was always filled up, he asked us how the food was, and took time to explain the type of food he served and was very helpful when asked about private functions.
Value: Prices are very reasonable for what you get.
Ambiance: The cafe is a renovated home in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's bright red, very cosy, and a warm place to dine in. In the summer there is room on the patio.
Powell is very friendly and flexible. He was a french chef and has no problems tailoring meals at your request. It's definitely a great place to try even if you aren't in the neighborhood.
We will definitely be returning.
A much needed replacement to the old restaurant it replaced called La Fourchette. New interior, new friendly staff, new owner, and most importantly ..... new delicious menu!
The food is fresh, flavorful, and plentiful while the prices range from good to fair. Not too expensive but not cheap. They feature daily specials and soups which never seem to disappoint.
Things to try if you have never been:
- Classic Burger (fresh beef patties made daily and cooked using the grill/bake technique)
- Chinese style BBQ Beef on rice.
- Japanese Curry Chicken
- Cajun Chicken Burger
- Chicken Pesto Linguine
- Meatball Linguine
There are many more to list but these are some of my favorite items on the menu. I usually go there 2-3 times a week.
We wanted to try somewhere new and within walking distance. I searched and found this lovely little restaurant set inside a heritage style home. We went just before 8 on a Friday and were the one of two tables eating in. You order at the counter and then we chose the window table. The restaurant had a nice cozy interior with candle light.
The person working did it all took our orders, cooked and served. He was very friendly and gave good service. He was also very good in the kitchen. My pasta dish had nice pieces of grilled tuna and my husband's burger was juicy and tasty.
We will be back to try it again nice place with good food.
This new neighborhood place is excellent,
the chef to be someone who takes pride and make his food carefully.
The burger is delicious, solid patty grilled/baked to perfection and still tender and juicy; topped with baby spinach leaves and the works.
They have surprisingly good cookies too. I am a cookie fan and i go around Vancouver hunting down the best white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. This place has the best one so far, way better than Subway, Tim Hortons and even cookies of course in Harbour centre. Large chunks of white chocolate, whole macadamia nuts and chewy moist inside, you can ask him to microwave it for you for 10-15 seconds, then let it sit for a while.
An excellent restaurant with a good variety of choices.
If you have work around there it's a really nice place to go for lunch. On some of the days that I don't have work I would still make a trip down there just for the food!
Very friendly service, the guy who looks like the head chef/owner seems to be really passionate about all the food he serves in his restaurant. No cheap materials are used to make the food. I can really tell that it's fresh every time.
A nice little place for anyone to go. Not extremely fancy, but very clean and very nice food presentation. Not for anyone looking for extravagance, but definitely for all of us who love grabbing a bite of delicious food for lunch.
