Great food

I came here for my birthday with about 10 or so people and had a very enjoyable evening. We started in the Tiki bar next door for a drink while our table was being prepared. Then we moved over to the other side to Nuba to enjoy some Lebanese food.

The restaurant was packed and the service was pretty good despite the place being so busy. We decided to just let our server order for us to make things easier. We started with appetizer platters that included two standouts baba ghanooj and lamb hushwie (sauteed lamb over hummus). For the entrees, I really enjoyed the lamb chops and could have eaten a few more of them. Overall the food was great although I would not be so lazy next time and order myself instead of letting the server guess.

I thought the value was a little pricey for what it was but this may also have something to do with visiting the other Nuba locations and alway being astounded at how reasonable the pricing was. The value was still pretty good, not sure if the pricing is different at this location than the others.

Overall I would return and also want to check out the other restaurant here called Leeteg Room which does Spanish food.

Nuba at the Waldorf

Been to the Nuba in DT a few times so wanted to try this location on Hastings in the Waldorf Hotel. Seems like each place has their own vibe as this location is nice and bright/open. Seating is mostly in the front area as the tables in the back were not set up for dinner service. The menu is a bit different than the one DT and had a special Argentine menu as well due to a visiting chef. Tried the little feast which had a few dips including hummus - good but a bit on the bland side, eggplant dip - very good. Had the fried califlower (najib's special) - very good, lamb stew - very good over brown rice, sable fish - very nice over quinoa. Overall a good food and service was very good. Great place for lunch but for a special dinner, would rather go downtown as it's a bit more intimate and the menu a bit more extensive. Prices were fair with the dip platter in the mid teens and the entrees in the high teens, low $20's.

Tiki and Tabouleh

Where else in the world can you have a decent Mai Tai with your delicious Middle Eastern food? No other place like this place in Vancouver. After my second cocktail at Nuba - a Blue Hawaii - I wandered around the large restaurant space, observed all the retro and a couple of tikis, then went over to the adjoining tiki bar - Vancouver's only since Trader Vic's closed - and was impressed. No gaudy tikis everywhere (not that there's anything wrong with that), but tasteful Polynesian art. The artfullest of artificial palm trees. A night sky ceiling with small light stars. A unique and refined take on tiki.

Most of you know by now that the food at Nuba is pretty reliable, and we had no complaints about it. I liked the atmosphere and the drinks primarily.

Been here a few times - and it's been very good each time. Good value for the money. The service, though while I have rated it solid, does slip - yesterday for example (Sat Dec 17) - I did not find the waitress particularly attentive. Asked for my jacket and was simply directed to the coat rack - surely, the staff should have brought it to my table (as that is where they had taken it from). But, minor things aside, I do intend to return.

I ordered a Bouillabaisse @ Nuba Waldorf. It Was disappointing: the broth resembled Campbells Vegetable soup, with a solitary scallop and a few tiny clams. $19! I really think this could be improved upon with the notoriety this Landmark has been given since it reopened - And it has my support.
