Did I go on the wrong night?!
By dish245 of Vancouver (3 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, June 9, 2007 - 2:57am [Dine in]

Came here with a big group of friends for dinner, the restaurant was much bigger that I thought it was and it pretty accomadating to large groups. I was excited to come here after reading all the good reviews, I hadn't had Indian food is such a long time - I was definitely craving it.

It must have been a very slow day, as everything looked old and unappealing. I didn't end up eating very much, as most of the stuff was super oily. None of us left very happy, and we were largely ignored as I think the server could feel the negative mood radiating from our group. Which is too bad, because I'm sure he could have lighten the mood by bringing more drinks.

Oh well.

Poor Service ruins an otherwise ok meal
By emi of Downtown Vancouver (3 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - 4:15pm [Dine in]

My only major disappointment was the service after the meal. There were 5 of us in the party and myself and 1 other friend had to leave earlier. We went up to the bar to pay. We explained to the server that we were paying for ourselves and 1 other girl (still at the table) as it was her birthday. I later found out that when the remaining 3 friends went to pay, the birthday girl specifically asked two times if we had paid. (She had guessed that we were treating her). The server informed her that we had paid for ourselves, then proceeded to charge them for ALL 3 people. (We checked, and it was easy to find out it was the same person helping them as there were only 2 employees in the restaurant at the time).

I called quite upset afterwards, and the guy on the phone had the nerve to imply that it was my friends fault for not informing them that 1 person was already paid for!! The server should have easily remembered that we had already paid for 1 extra person! He was just hoping we wouldn't notice so he could get a nice big STOLEN tip.

Very Beautiful & Enjoyable Place
By psaropoula of Vancouver (7 Reviews)

I simply love being able to pile my plate with my very own combination of tasty Indian flavours! Whenever I get a craving for Indian food [which is often..haha] I grab the family and go to this wonderful buffet. The food is delicious and there's plenty variety of it.

The patio is fabulous with its spendid view of the Vancouver skyline and it has heaters and ashtrays [which is a friendly gesture for those who smoke].

I've been told that they are the ex owners of the famous "All India Sweets" on Main street [a place that we used to go to before we discovered how nasty the "new" management is]. What a great pleasure it is to have found the old management again!

The service could use a little improvement as it can be a bit slow when you're ordering drinks. But all in all, its still an enjoyable place to eat.

Nice view, lots of waiters, overspiced, overpriced
By iknowwhatsgood of Vancouver (10 Reviews)

So we went here on a groupon for 50% off for two. At that price, it was worth it. At the normal price? forget it! go to maurya india a few blocks closer to main st for a much better quality of food.

So first off, the view is amazing. You can see across false creek to all the lit up towers and it does look magical. The waiters were very attentive and there were many of them. Some buffets cheap out on the wait staff but that was clearly not the case here. However when it came to the food, my feelings were mixed. I did not have any dish that I thoroughly enjoyed, or was made in a way that was unique. All dishes had a similar peppery spice to them. I heard other tables complaining about the spice, however I like it spicy and didnt find it too hot. My wifes opinion of buffets, if they have tonnes of jello, they are trying to save money. This buffet had three different types. This opinion held true to the main dishes. All paneer dishes were very light on paneer, same with the meet dishes being light on the meat. The goat curry was good, however was all bones!! very hard to find any meat unless you were the first one to the buffet after it was restocked. The butter chicken tasted watered down and runny, the palak paneer was way over puureed. I almost wonder if they used powdered spinach. One nice thing I thought, buffet naan!! which is sometimes hard to find. However I was then disappointed by rock hard, pita-esque not naans. Not sure what else to call them.

It seemed like the owner was trying to cut costs. Lots of jello, potatoes rice, not much meat or cheese. The butter chicken was full of meat, but the sauce made it kinda of so-so. Beer was affordable at $4 a pint for some nice ones like sapporro.

Its just your run of the mill downtown buffet place. Nothing special. It did make me personally feel full till noon the next day. Not sure if that is good or bad, as usually buffet doesnt do that. I almost felt too full and my wife felt sick for a day, but she is more sensitive than I.

Bottom line, lots of sauces, cheap on anything that costs money, but they did have pretty much all the popular dishes represented. They could do a lot more with what they have (especially at a regular price of 15+ dollars), a nice looking restaurant, nice location and nice view. If you are looking for good indian food though, pick Maurya instead for their lunch buffet @ 13.95. If I wasnt paying half price already for this new india I would have been really disappointed to pay 40 bucks for at best, mediocre food.

Not Bad for AYCE
By Dragonsign of Vancouver (20 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, December 2, 2008 - 4:50pm [Dine in]

Went here last week with Mrs. Dragon for dinner on a Saturday night. Arrived about 8pm and the place wasn't too busy, about half full. We were seated promptly and headed for the buffet. There were the assorted salds which we skipped and headed for the main items. I took the cauliflower, butter chicken, curry lamb, rice, tandoori chicken, samosas and naan bread. All were pretty tasty. The butter chicken was good as well as the curry lamb was tender as it should be. Everything was not overly spicy and the buffet table was always re-filled. The only thing i could complain about was that the naan bread was kind of burnt. Service was ok, basically what you expect from an AYCE buffet. View was nice as you can see the lights of the city. I would imagine on a nice summer night eating out on the patio would be great. Value was good in my opinion but prices have increased a dollar or two in the last while though still very affordable. Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice simple indian dinner.

Terrible food and over priced (even with coupon!)
By dieselcool24 of Burnaby (1 Review)
Submitted Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - 1:16pm [Dine in]

We had an entertainment coupon for this place. For 2 people, it still came out to almost $30!

Location is nice. That's about it. We got there around 5pm on a Friday and it was quite empty. The service is terrible and the food is worse.

There is hardly any meat in the butter chicken or other meat dishes. Obviously at a buffet, you'll just dig out the meat and leave the sauce, and this is because this company is so cheap in trying to minimize how much meat they put out.

The variety is poor - everything is in butter sauce or some other super oily and disgusting looking dishes. The naan was cold. There are NO BOWLS!!! Considering most dishes have a lot of sauce including the dessert, how are we supposed to take it in a plate? What if I want to eat with naan? It should be in a bowl.

I asked the server/cashier guy there about it and he proudly exclaimed that in the many years they've been there, they've never put bowls out. I don't understand why that'd be something to brag about...

If you want Indian food, go to a regular restaurant and pay on the menu rather than going to this horrible place.

Here's the kicker - when we got there for dinner, the cook from the back started scraping the dried sauce off the sides of the pots/curry-holders at the buffet station. It was so annoying! I wanted to get my food and had to wait for this guy to scrape all that gunk... serious??

I'd never go back there, and it's no wonder that people only go there because of the coupon and the enticement of a buffet. This place sucks and overpriced.

When's the chicken?
By ICAMEITRIEDAND of North Vancouver District (1 Review)
Submitted Thursday, February 9, 2012 - 11:42pm [Dine in]

I ordered you lunch special for 5 bucks but I am wondering what happened to the chicken?
It use to be a good deal now it's just a rice bowl with naan. If you need to charge more do so, The price has not gone up in years so put it up a buck or two as long as I's not just a container of rice,

If I wanted just rice I would order just rice I'm sure it's cheaper. But when I'm hungry and want Indian food and I'm close by I pop in. But not if I'm going to go hungry, It's Indian food and it's cheap. I'm not asking for the moor here just chicken.
I guess you make you money on the buffet and not the lunch special,

Great all you can eat Indian

Great value for the selection that you get. They regularly bring out fresh top ups. My wife and I love the butter chicken here. For beer drinkers the jugs are excellent value with good selection. If you want to grab Indian and are looking to try out different dishes, we would definitely recommend this place. Enjoy!

Go to New India. You will like it.

We have been going to this all-you-can-eat Indian restaurant for 2 years. I love the butter chicken, the chana masala, beef cheema and much more. Once in a while the masala chicken is a little dried out or the naan bread a little dry, but usually I have no complaints. And out of 2 years of going there and enjoying every dish almost every time I would say that is a pretty good track record. The staff I have dealt with there are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. They listen to what we need and then they do their best to keep us coming back. If you go on the weekend the lamb curry is included in the buffet, but not on the week days. Parking is pretty convenient too. We also order the mango lassi once in a while. It is very thick and deliciously sweet.

Go and check it out for yourself.

WOW, hard to please diners!

I'm quite saddened by how poor of a rating this place is recieving! Firstly, no matter how busy the 2 servers that are always there ( A guy who I think is from Elsalvador? and a young lady from Europe maybe?) are amazing! they are constantly cleaning, serving, clearing plates from tables and asking how the food is. I realize its an AYCE but these kids are incredible. As soon as we're sat they ask if you have questions offer drinks and bring you a jug of water to your already set table. The view from this place is awesome, you can see across the water to Harbour Center, and all the way over to what I believe to be Burnaby. The food is fresh, hot, abundant and delicious. I'm a stickler for good naan, and man do they deliver! Their salads are fresh and the tomatoe salad can only be described as delicious. The variety is nice. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the price for the dinner, lunch at 12$ is a better deal, take a late lunch here and have a light salad for supper and its money well spent, in my opinion. The cooks who restock the food will ask how you like it , or at least smile and say hello.

Definatly a must try if you have a hankering for some quick but great indian food. The only suggestion I have is to take transit or be prepared to hoof it a bit as parking around there can be difficult, expensive or just plain old non existant. But the long walk is needed after overstuffing oneself on some Indian soul food!

Decent food for ayce .Our server was very attentive to our needs and made our experience enjoyable. Butter chicken was on the sweet side, lamb curry was tasteless but the beef keema was outstanding. Quite a selection of veg. food and their chai tea was good. Enjoy the view of False Creek and grease up on ayce indian buffet. Can't beat all that for $12 on a beautiful Sunday .Don't forget to wash it all down with a bottle of Tiger Beer or two as it will help with the digestion.Worth a try!

If it wasn't for the butter chicken...
By zorgkang of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, July 23, 2006 - 6:15pm [Dine in]

I'd really like that place if it wasn't for the so called butter chicken. I think it should be called syrup chicken instead. It happens that the dish is at the end of the buffet, next to the 2 dessert dishes. The first time I tried it, I was really surprized by how sweet it was. I actually thought that someone had spilled some of the syrup from the desserts into the chicken dish. But I went back a few weeks later and it was the same. I find it really bad.
