This location is on Bute Street overlooking the shopping district of Robson. Moxie's Grill serves Canadian style food including pizza, pasta, salads, burgers and more. The restaurant is family friendly and includes a kids menu.
Dropped by here yesterday night for a late night fix. Being on Robson St. we figured it'd be buzzing a little - not so. Only a few tables occupied.
The front door hostess warned us they were updating the credit machines and could only accept cash. No problem, and she was polite about the forewarning.
We seated us and told us another server would table us. We sat, and waited, and waited. Normally we take a little longer to decide on menu options but we still waited after we decided. A different server came by eventually to take our orders after telling us our original server was backed up with tabling a large birthday group. The Xtreme Burger for my friend and my gf and I shared the Beef Dip with Yam Fries. Xtreme burger was mentioned to be good, albeit messy. My beef dip was pretty typical (good) but the au jus was grossly overseasoned. We ordered the Xango and Toffee Pudding for dessert which were pretty pathetic considering how much better you could find elsewhere. The toffee pudding cake especially tasted like banana cake which I don't remember reading on the menu.
Service is slow. We spent far more time waiting than eating. The staff are very friendly however but it was hard to find one walking by our booth to flag them down. Maybe because they were wrapping up. Who knows. Better training needed.
Really nice decor, however this place seems mostly eye pleasing with little to back up their namesake. I'd consider going across the street to the competition.
Food: i had the club salad which was a good entree size. dressing was a little heavy for my liking. next time i would ask for it on the side. came w/ tempura battered chicken which i didnt like at all. way over battered little 3 strips of chicken. wouldve tasted better w/ grilled chicken. came w/ banana bread which was still warm and very tasty. shared the blackberry/apple puff pastry which is very comparible to joey tomatos. made to order so was fresh and yummy!
Service: our server was fairly attentive. didnt have to wait too long to order, mains came at reasonable time, glasses never went empty...our dessert did take a while, but our server was very apologetic and compt it for us! we didnt even mention anything and didnt think it was necessary, but i guess there was a mixup/miscommunication in the kitchen regarding the order.
Ambiance: cool place for drinks, hangout, casual dining. bar is great to catch some games. i'd def come back...as long as i dont have to wait too long! can get fairly busy evenings and weekends!
The decor is awesome, they did a good job. the food is good, the service is good. It's a fun hangout for birthday's or Margarita nights. My friends and I went there for margarita night and our table was filled with all different colors. Our server was very friendly and joined in for some jokes. I felt really comfortable here.
I went to Moxies Classic Grill for some dessert last night with a few friends. What was supposed to be an enjoyable time turned into the worst dining experience I have faced till now. The server was seemingly friendly, but eventually resorted to disrespect us by using extremely inappropriate language, and had little to no professionalism. When our dessert arrived, he literally threw the plates and spoons on the table, which again demonstrated his poor service commitment.
Apart from the horrible service, the dessert was altogether quite delicious, and the ambiance was quite relaxing. However, I would never recommend this location due to the poor, and rude service.
I went here with my wife because we wanted to finally try it. We've always walked by Moxie's on the way to someplace else...
The food was creative, fresh and pretty good. Not outstanding, but a decent effort, and better than Red Robin. If only the staff could stop flirting with each other and serve the customers. There was one server who seemed to be doing her job, but we weren't in her section.
Try the burritos. They are nice. Not real Mexican, but you have to go to LA for that ;)
Ok, seriously, this place keeps getting worse and worse. I used to really like it, well, many years ago but the last several times I have been there, it didn't fail to disappoint. I got dragged there again last night for a birthday and I'll be damned if I ever go there again for anything more than a beer (not sure why I would want to do that either though).
Food: mediocre at best. I got a goat cheese and asparagus pizza which finally appeared on my table after they first brought me a chicken pizza instead. The dough was yeast-y, pizza sauce tasted like something straight out of a can, the red peppers were not roasted enough, the asparagus was over-roasted and the entire pizza had an extremely generous sprinkling of dried oregano on it. The pizza's only redeeming quality was the goat cheese; alas, there wasn't enough of it!
Service: our waitress tried so I will give her credit for it. Although I have to point out that the restaurant was completely empty on a Sunday night (does that signal how sucky this place is or what?) and the staff decided it would be appropriate to horse around, sing really loudly in the kitchen and chit chat while giving each other shoulder rubs. Um-m, ok.
Value: waste of money. Period.
Ambiance: the dirty seats and carpets never fail to amuse me. The last three times I've been to this place I found nacho chip dust on the carpet around my seating area. Must be me.
The decor is cute. And it stops right there.
Food is bad. The taste is bland and it's a little bit on the greasy side. You definitely will not miss the food.
Service is bad. Waiters just simply ignore you. Customers are not the priority. Their chatting with each other and having a relaxing moment are their main focus.
I like my steak rare and no one seems to believe me except at Moxie's. The steak was perfectly cooked. Tender and juicy. I've been to Milestone's, cactus club, earl's, keg, etc and they all bring me medium well. Maybe I don't look like I can handle it. However, the starter was just okay and so was the cocktail.
This is my favourite location of theirs though I sometimes do go to the Broadway one for easier parking, and in the hopes of a lighter crowd. The best service of the two will have to be the Robson one. The Broadway location, Ive found with the last couple of visits, tend to be slow and forgetful. Love the garlic smashed stuffed potatoes--one of the best! I prefer their food over their counterparts (Earls, Cactus, Sammy J's, Keg, etc.). But that's just me. The rating I give to Moxie's is only for comparison with other chain restaurants of its class. I am not, by any means, comparing it to higher end restaurants/steakhouses, etc.. It's just good at what it does for the market it's aiming for, as far as casual, noisy, trendy, youthful, ppl-watching places go.
Came here with a girlfriend after shopping because it was the closest restaurant. Waited almost 2 minutes for the hostess to come by and seat us - it was around 3pm, so it wasn't as if it was really busy.
Later ordering food, I ordered a soup and sandwich combo while my girlfriend ordered a starter Caesar & a crab and scallop cake appetizer. When the food finally came - my soup was cold, her scallops cakes were cold, and the caesar salad tasted as really gross: the lettuce and the cheese were bitter?!
When we finally got our servers attention 5min later and told her the soup was cold, she took it away and brought it back a couple minutes later, but it came back still cold! Our server didn't even apologize for the food or say anything at all to us, except when we finished our food. Then she asked us whether we wanted dessert.
Overall, a terrible experience. Would not recommend this location.
Came in here, greeted by the hostess nicely. Sat down, the server seemed to know what she was doing at first. Margaritas served, orders taken.
....Orders did not come for the longest time. For some reason, people who came here after us got their food first, and we didn't know what the hell was going on. Then a WHILE after, the waitress comes with 3 plates....not 4. She told us before that she was going to put in our orders altogether so that we can get our food at the same time. I wouldn't really complain about this, but listen to what's going to happen next.
My meal was alright, but smaller in portion than the other Moxies locations. My friend's philly steak was good, but I don't like greasy sandwiches. She never got ketchup or the basil mayo dip that she ordered with her fries. Ok..... The prawn stirfry that my other friend got was too greasy..I didn't like it... and my friend's burrito or something i forgot....didn't arrive AFTER we had finished our own meals.
Water was never refilled, the waitress seemed to be all over the place with her ditziness in the patio. I think the manager noticed and she started coming around the tables as well. At least she kind of made up for the service. But one thing I would have to compliment is the decor. Beautiful, better than the Earls on top across the street. I love their patterns and how they set up the area!
More annoying things that happened were that the stupid waitress didn't even separate our checks properly. If it wasn't for the ambience, I would never come back. Maybe I won't, cause there are tons of Moxies locations that can be as nice as this one and serve better food.
I would come to the Moxies Robson location a lot when I lived nearby and it was pretty good then. I came back recently with friends and I was very disappointed. My meal was bad and pretty pricey for what I got. My friends mentioned how bad their meals were too.
The decor is very relaxing and nice, but that is about all.
I won't be coming back to this location.
This is one of the sexier places to hang out. The decor is so romantic and warm.
I love their martinis they are sensational. Also what i really like about this place is that they have a lot of vegetarian variety. I particularly like their coconut curry rice bowl. It's a bit on the sweeter side but its very different form everything I've tasted it.
Service: The servers are extremely friendly. Its like I've known them for a long time. Plus they know their dishes very well. Ever time I've asked them about a new dish they've always explained the flavors and the taste very well. So then I know how the dish is going to be like as opposed to being shocked and saddened with the new dish i ordered.
Ambiance: Is great. I love their interiors. It look so beautiful from the inside. I was pleasantly surprised.
I held my birthday dinner tonight at Moxies. The service that we received here was fantastic. Our server was fabulous at accomodating our large party and came back frequently to make sure that everyone was having a good time. As for the food, I thought that it was just average. I ordered the maple glazed salmon, and it failed to impress me. I was disappointed, as the dish reminded me of airplane food.I tried some of the other food though, and they tasted much better than the salmon. The ambiance and decor of this restaurant is great, perfect for a night out with a group of friends.
Went here last week for lunch with some work friends. The service was average, the food was average, the atmosphere was average, we were served by what must have been a new girl who didnt really know the menu very well. Places like this are so boring I dont know why we made the foolish mistake of going there!
Wouldn't even take the time to serve us. A waiter came by a few times and told us to keep waiting, while we could see a whole bunch of empty tables there. Sorry, there are plenty of other restaurants right around the corner - we went elsewhere.
Great family friendly restaurant with surprizingly good food for grownups. Service was quick, attentive and very kid friendly.
Adults enjoyed a dinner that was moderately priced and very well prepared. Kid's enjoyed a big selection of the usual favorites and the Erupting Volcano desert was worth the price of the kids meal alone.
I was at Moxies on Friday night with a few friends and usually the other moxies locations have a good serving crew, atmosphere, etc. but i noticed at this location that rather than tending to customers as well as they could they spent their time flirting with one another! The food was greasy and my glass of water and my boyfriend's beer was empty until we were done eating when the server did come around. The hostesses didn't seem inviting either and try to have more of an ethnically diverse staff it helps customers to relate to the environment.
