Mom's is a mobile food truck that serves up a variety of tasty, homestyle grilled cheese sandwiches on the corner of Howe & West Georgia.
I have never been big on Grilled Cheese, until I decided I would try Mom's. What made me try them, was seeing the many happy customers, with great looking and tasting sandwiches. I have yet to try the meatloaf cheese sandwich, and even hear she wants to take it off the menu for the summer.
The staff is allways friendly, ready to make you laugh and their sandwiches are amazing and very tasty. I love their bread, and I usually get the Havaratti to make my lunch. It will come off the truck, hot, gooey, yummy and filling. I love their homemade chips and I want to try the Peanut butter and banana one day, but I usually keep eating their sandwiches over and over...as you can tell, I'm hooked.
No seating area, bring your humour, and much near by at the art gallery. This truck is popular and will be in the summer time.
I tried this Mom's Grilled Cheese lunch truck today for the first time after hearing rave reviews since the 'truck' fad started downtown. I don't get it. It was okay - just that. OK. The tomato soup was ok - I prefer a creamier soup without all the tomato bits in it but it was still just OK. I had a sourdough with swiss. I didn't think anything could ever have too much cheese, but I couldn't finish the sandwich - I was actually starting to feel a bit sick. I'm not 100% sure, but the cheese may have been processed - it had that look to it. The chips in the bottom of the cone were stale too. I'm not ready to write this place off just yet, but I think I'll peruse a bit before returning.
You won't go away dissapointed if you're craving the comfort of a crispy and gooey grilled cheese sandwich. The pros: good bread and cheese selection (including lactose-free cheese and gluten-free bread), choice of add-ons (onions, tomatoes and bacon - extra fee applies), super friendly staff, and quick turnaround. The cons: not many except that $10 is a bit steep for a quick lunchtime meal.
