Miura Waffle Milk Bar is a place that serves sweet and savoury waffle sandwiches and flavoured milks.
Miura gives exactly what it offers: good, clean waffles in a good, clean and trendy environment. I've been coming here since college and have been hooked since then. The style is that you come in, order up front and pay and then sit down to eat. Very laid back, yet organized. I am a sweet tooth so I usually come for the waffles as they are warm soft, and super light but there are also sandwiches. Try the CFC and the bulgogi sando.
I had coupons for this place so I got to check it out twice. I don't normally hang around in downtown but I wanted to give this place a try. I love waffles so it's a good opportunity to see what they have to offer.
I've tried their veggie, tiramisu, strawberry flavored milk & blueberry yoggy milk. Their veggie was yummy but abit expensive @ $7. I love their tiramisu especially if you like dessert. The strawberry was ok. And their blueberry was yummy and not too tangy like the actual yogurt cup.
Overall, this is a cute place. Yes, it feels abit foggy or stuffy but after 5 mins, you don't even notice it.
We walked by many times and never went in. Finally we decided we would like to have a go.
Small place, but very well appointed and clean. The 2 people working there are really friendly and helpful.
One sweet, one savoury.
The sweet waffle sandwich was filled with fresh berries & cream (or custard?) that had everything in just the right proportions. Not too sweet, nice fluffy waffle, it was really quite good.
Next up, bulgogi waffle. Yeah, weird concept, but .... first bite was like WOW. They did something really good to this thing. Excellent taste texture, not too goopy, not too strong. They really put thought into it, it's got some egg in there, just a bit of kimchi, the bulgogi isn't the usual, it's kind of a ground meat deal, which is perfect, otherwise it would be hard to chew off. It was really an eye opener.
Oh yeah, they have all sorts of flavoured milk as well, which is kind of neat.
While we were eating there, some other customers came in who were repeats, so that was a good sign. No surprise given the food! The top waffle "sando" was under $7 I think, and many are under $5. I would MUCH rather have this than a burger at the usual fast food joints.
I concur with the previous reviewers. This is strangely good and satisfying, dunno why. I'm pretty sure we'll be back.
We’re on an adventure to try out all of Vancouver’s finest waffle-making establishments. Sadly, we have yet to try the infamous chicken and waffles combination, so if you have any suggestions, please throw them our way!
Hoisin - $6.99 (7/7)
If you ever have difficulty deciding on what to get because their menu has one too many options, please do yourselves a favour and get this one. Their signature waffle sandwich might be their Bulgogi, but this one is hands down just as good, if not better. Fans of Vietnamese subs will absolutely fall in love with this waffle sandwich. It tastes IDENTICAL to a one, except in place of a freshly baked sub, you get an amazingly fresh and fluffy waffle. The flavours and each ingredient perfectly complement each other and is no doubt the best thing invented.
Bulgogi - $8.49 (5.75/7)
Their signature. This one doesn’t quite taste like authentic bulgogi. Close, but no cigar. The kimchi is quite prominent but does not give off that offensive smell/taste. This combination of ingredients in a waffle is definitely unique. Probably needs more beef though.
BEC - $6.99 (6/7)
Craving for some breakfast but don’t have time to sit down and properly dig through it with your fork and knife? Your solution would be the BEC. It has all your usuals - crispy and crispy bacon, fluffy egg, infused and glued perfectly together with that cheese. And oh, is it ever cheesy and stringy! The smokiness of the bacon paired with the creamy, light, airy egg is pure brilliance. Try eating this without having cheese smeared around your mouth. We dare you.
Food: We tried 2 different savoury sandwiches - the bulgogi and the pork - both were very tasty and the ingredients seemed fresh. Would like to come back to try the sweet but...
Service: Run by what I think is a husband and wife team. Friendly and relatively quick. We ended up sitting outside on the narrow patio and our sandwiches were brought out quickly to us.
Value: Good value considering the quality of the waffle sandwiches. Do not be deceived by what appears to be small portions - the sandwiches are very satisfying. The prices are not outrageous since you're getting something different from most sandwich places.
Ambience: Small restaurant and clean. However, there is no ventilation inside so the restaurant gets kinda smokey. We started out sitting inside but moved to a table outside even though it was cold. By then, I already smelled as if I had been sitting in a smoke house! That is the only thing preventing me from returning to this spot.
The restuarant itself only has a few tables but they have a lovely shaded patio outside. I found the restuarant to be clean and the service excellent but one has to come back for the food.
When I first stepped into this newly opened restuarant, I expected your regular breakfast fare. I didn't know what they actually served. The owners were very nice and helpful and explained that they serve "waffle sandwhiches." I was intrigued as I've never heard of it before. I tried their Fruit and Cream Waffle to start. It was amazing! The waffle itself was nice and crisp on the outside but the inside was moist, tender and light. The filling was made of fresh seasonal fruits, not the mushy, macerated in syrup kind that most breakfastfranchise places serve. The cream was not sickeningly sweet whipped cream but smooth and creamy pastry cream with just the right amount of sweetness that complimented the fruits. The filling to waffle ratio was just right as well. I ate that sandwhich in no time.
I had such a delicious and filling waffle sandwhich the first time that I had to come back to try out their savoury ones. The second time I came by, I brought some friends with me. We ordered the Beef Bulgogi and the Salmon with Wasabi Mayo. Both were to die for! The waffles were as melt in your mouth as the first time. The beef was tender and well cooked. The salmon was fresh and didn't have the fishy smell or after taste. It was cooked just right. The wasabi mayo complimented the salmon well. The wasabi just gave the mayo a nice kick and was not overpowering.
I'm looking forward to going back and trying the rest of their menu.
I've never had waffle sandwhiches before so this was a first for me. I always thought of waffles as something sweet but Miura takes it to a whole new level. They make savoury waffles with different fillings from veggie and mushrooms to beef, to pork, chicken and yes, even turkey, right in time for thanksgiving. Each one was delicious and flavourful. I've had thir sweet waffles as well. They are just soft and fluffly and filled with such sweet and creamy fillings that are fresh and perfectly balanced. I'm impressed that everything is made fresh and in house. They even slice their own beef for the bulgogi.
I also had the chance to have their soups and each time it was divine. Their flavours vary each day but my favourite soup of all is their Sweet Potato Miso soup. It had the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. It was warm, velvety and comforting.
It's my favourite place to go for take-out or dine in when I want something fresh.
Miura Waffle + Milk Bar is a fairly new addition to the Davie Street Restaurants. It's original and fresh, and it's certainly something I'd never (nor have many people) thought of starting a business in. I originally wanted to try what they had to offer months ago, but never had time to - sadly, they were closed whenever I was in the Davie St. neighbourhood. (They are closed from 2PM-5PM)
The whole concept of waffle sandwiches has never occured to me in my life. Waffles are a tasty treat, but fill it with amazing things such as their delicious cream and fruits or bulgogi with kimchi, egg and meat -> it becomes phenomenal. I can't even describe to you how much bliss my mouth was feeling when I had my first bite into their bulgogi sando. The waffle was thinner than the Sweet Waffle sandos they had, but it was perfect for a savoury waffle. What's even more amazing: they actually put the meat INTO the waffle batter, so you don't have to worry about the best parts falling out!!! Their sweet waffle sando (Fruits & cream with seasonal fruits) was delicious also! Actually, as I write this review, my mouth is watering with the thought of it. The best part: they come out with NEW waffle sandos! I am so excited to come back and try their new selection of sweet waffle sandos :)!!!
Top notch. The waffles came quickly, and we could actually see them making the waffles (No Eggo waffles!!) More over, the restaurant owners are almost always visibly present and they are both very welcoming and sweet.
It is great. The prices for the food are fantastic. Not only is it wallet friendly, but the quality of the food - outstanding. I have no other words to say about it.
The restaurant itself is quite small, but the tables and chairs are super classy. The whole interior of the restaurant is beautiful, actually... extremely classy. As I said before, you can actually watch them making the waffles! It's a very pretty place to eat. Their deck/patio is quite awesome also, especially in the summer heat. People passing by always have curious eyes and say to themselves 'we should totally go there'... and they're right. Anyone passing by or is in the Davie St area should definitely drop by.
All in all: I cannot wait to go back there again!
