Falafel excellence

Through the grapevine I have heard good things about Mitra so for the first meal of the day my gf and I quickly made the trip over to Main St.

While the overall space is small and is at best self-serve, there are enough tables around including a small but serviceable street patio area. Menuboards are homespun while the entire space has that noticeable layer of grim to show its honesty.

We shared the lamb/beef shawarma plate, hummus and a few falafel balls on the side. The shaved lamb and beef was mildly seasoned and very tender with more than enough slices to go with the lightly scented rice. The small salad consisted of some shredded lettuce, tomatoes and onions complimented by a dollop of hummus and tabouleh. I found the hummus to be a touch on the bland side however the falafel balls were something else, and was thoroughly enjoyed with the crispy exterior and fluffy innards. We've been disappointed with most falafel we've had in the city this one was definitely the best so far.

The service was fairly brisk despite the long lineup. Staff are friendly and patient with questions. Our queue at that time was lengthened due to the abnormal number of questions being asked and special requests made but they seemed to handle them with ease.

Some of the best and most honest food in the city comes from a place like this.

Fast, efficient and decent munchies

This is more of a take-out place than eat-in place, so don't expect to have fancy digs to lounge around in. Nothing wrong with that as long as you know the market you're shooting for.

The service, don't expect extras, but my they are certainly very fast. You won't be waiting for long and I'd say it's a better bet here than try McD's.

Pricing is very good for the kind of place this is. Relatively inexpensive considering the quantities that you get. And the food? Quite good. I wouldn't say AMAZING, but we're pretty tough critics. We ordered the special of the day (roast lamb), which was good, but I would say it should've been cooked just a bit longer as it wasn't exactly the "falling-off-the-bone" type that I expect from this dish. Also had a veggie platter. The falafel is pretty good, but NO, it is not the best in town. That honour (so far) has to go to Golden Pita. However, that's a pretty long drive away from this place so unless you're truly a "hardcore" foody, Mitra will more than suffice.

Not sure if I would recommend this place as it doesn't really seem that outstanding to me. On the other hand, there's no other place as good in the proximity, so if you wanted this kind of food, it seems to be the place to head to. It's fresh, fast food that's inexpensive, I cannot advise staying away that's for sure!

best falafel around

This place is so well priced for how much good food you get. I've always done a carry-out because it doesn't look comfortable to stay. its loud and really hot because of the open cooking of meat.
Always huge portions. the food is put together in front of you. you can ask for more toppings if you want. Parking is ok in the area; but since it only takes less than 10 minutes to order and receive it doesn't really matter if you park in a permit only spot. They are always really friendly, accept debt.

I've eaten here maybe a dozen times in the past 4 years. I've eaten a wide variety of menu items, both meat and veggie, dine in and take out.
The one thing that holds true: I get sick Every Single Time.
For a while I thought it was me, because I was eating there when I was hungover or because I had drank coffee or something. I didn't want to blame the small, independent business. And then I had the lamb shanks last Thursday (yeah, they were tasty)... and I have been sick ever since. This is going on day 6. If I am still sick on Friday, I am going to the doctor.
Eat here at your own risk. I would suggest you go to the pizza place a few doors down - they have a pepper steak pizza special that will blow your mind, and lets you keep your guts intact.

been here a bunch of times, everytime has been consistently good food, friendly and fast service. Love the chicken wraps, it's perfectly moist chicken with the outer overly cooked crunchy bits from the rotisserie, YUM!! Always quick, go in and order some food on your way home after a long day at work, good stuff!

I eat here about twice a week. Very quick service for lunch. Fantastic shawarma's. They make a great chicken tajin(tajikstan chcken stew) and the lamb shank for $9 compares to a $15-19 meal you get at any other restaurant. Not much seating but that doesn't matter since most times I do takeout. You can eat a shawarma on the run anyway.

This is the big sister of Falafully Good on Oak Street, which is my favourite restaurant of all time (FG gets an extra point for being on the same block as my work place). The menu is the same (I've tried every single thing on it and my taste buds have never been disappointed, unlike some other falafel joints) and the staff is friendly. They always use quality ingredients and you can really taste it.

best shawarma in town!

this is hands down my favourite shawarma place!!!!!!!

i usually get the chicken shawarma plate, and it is always consistently tasty! the chicken is juicy and tender, the rice pilaf is awesome, the houmous is smooth and thick, and the tabbouleh has just the right amount of everything.

the service is excellent here! one time, when my friend ordered a chicken shawarma salad and had a bit left, she asked for it to be packed, and then they hooked her up with extra chicken! how awesome is that?!!

incredible value for amazing food!

best place ever!!!

Ok, I have to admit, I feel like I've become a bit too obsessed with this joint lately. I can't get enough of their Shawarma plate. I could leave the salad behind as it doesn't do much for me but the Shawarma is so incredible. I would also highly recommend the falafal.

Another guilty pleasure about this place? They put out the burnt rice that is left when they are finished cooking the rice to eat and I love it so much. May sound gross... save judgment for when you try it!

The staff are also so incredibly friendly that I always have a great experience when I go into this joint.

The prices are good and the food is incredible. I definitely recommend it.
