Empty on a Friday night?!?? Shady....

Went there on a Friday night after stumbling across it on the internet and it was located almost at the end of Hamilton Street. When we arrived, the place seemed ok since there was a large party sitting at the entrance so we naturally assumed it was busy. However, when we entered into the dining area, it was completely empty (only 1 other table with a couple who only ordered drinks and were actually waiting for a table at a different restaurant). The large group in the entrance was just the waitress' friends... We were duped. So we ordered appies and made an escape to another more happening place...

Food: Spring rolls were atrocious but zucchini sticks were ok but quite greasy. Sauces came from 4 L jugs since I could see the cook prepare everything... Somehow unsettling.

Service: Server was a sweetie which made it difficult to leave without ordering something.

Ambiance: I guess it would be good to have a drink here if you're waiting for another restaurant or just wanna watch the game. It was empty on a Friday night which made us quite uncomfortable. Restaurant itself is quite plain and the music they were playing was just everywhere - pick a theme! This is a place that is in serious need of a makeover if they want to survive in the industry, esp. when the only patrons they seem to attract are their own employees' friends and people waiting for tables at other restaurants.

I live in Yaletown, so am always looking for a different places to explore. Stumbled across Milan's Bistro on Hamilton for lunch, didn't look like much from outside, but its very nice inside and quite spacious. I ordered their special for the day, which was a shaved roast beef sandwich and ceaser. Wow!! The sandwich is to die for, fantastic. And the caesar is very fresh, cool and crispy. I also tried it for dinner, we ordered the platter for two - better go with extreme hunger if you want to order that, was fantastic. The owner is the cook, and everything is prepared fresh. Very nice service, and crisp ambience, you feel in a way as if you were in a family neighbourhood restaurant in Yaletown!! I frequent Milan's regularly now, atleast once a week for lunch, I have tried the different sandwich's including the snitzel, but I like the roast beef sandwich, do try it.

I started with a nice frosty pint. The soup (hearty and good, just like mums and grandmas) wow very good. Now for the best part: The Chicken Shnitzel with sauteed mushrooms and melted swiss cheese! the sauteed mushrooms are indescribably delicious, oh yeah and the chicken is very tender. Hardley greasy as the previous guy mentioned. Also, the price is freakin awsome for the GIANT portions. I will be back and reserve some room for dessert : )

I love this restaurant, despite how empty it is it's nice to have a little less crowd sometimes, especially when everywhere else is super busy and you can't talk to the person you're eating with. The cook (Milan) is a super sweetheart. My favorite foods there is their greek salad, calamari, and the perogies (they're so nice and tender). I totally love this place, go there, it ROCKS!
