Good ribs joint

I've been to Migz three times in the last few months and have been pleasantly surprised each time. The ribs are great and are probably the best I've had in Vancouver. Both the baby back ribs and the St. Louis ribs are flavourful and there isn't a lot of fat in either. Service is ok and the nice thing about this place is that it's never overly busy (unless there's a game on) which means you get your food in a reasonable amount of time.

Great Experience

Went in a few weeks ago to watch a hockey game. Awesome experience! They have tv's everywhere and good tasting food. Cheap beer. But the best was the staff, they were all really good and friendly, smiled a lot. My server started chatting with me and my friends and i went in a few days later and she remembered me. Great casual spot on Broadway for sure.

Always a good time

I come here weekly with my soccer team after our games. We play Tuesdays and wings that night are only 39cents! Mid week is always busy and on weekends now they have a $5 appy menu during certain hours. They have $3.50 pints available everyday of the week and the food is always quick and tasty. They have wicked bbq food and the 49cent wednesday prawns are to die for! I love the chicken scampi personally, but ask them to go easy on the spice if you're not into that.

But what I love most about this place is the service. Most of the staff has been there for a couple years, and it shows. They are always fast and friendly even when it's slammed. All I can say, is they are doing something right, because the place is packed every time I go in, whether it's to hang out with friends, or watch a game.

It's my kind of place, laid-back, no pressure and always a good time!

cheap but flavourless eats

a pretty popular restaurant for group hangouts so we decided to give this place a try.
the food was absolutely atrocious: calamari came cold and soft, pizzas seemed and tasted like it was made by a child, poutine didnt have the right gravy and cheese combination, and the mini pork ribs tasted awful. i cant cook squat but i am sure i could wing something in the kitchen that would taste better than what i had put into my stomach that evening.
waitress was friendly and polite. she took our orders in a timely fashion and was around to ask us if we needed more drinks. the only problem with her was that she didnt clear away our dirty dishes which just stacked up on our tables.
perhaps the cheap prices here reflect the quality of the food. too bad because i was looking for a place that would give me a good bang for my buck.
they have a nice patio thats great for the summer. place has a neat decor and it definitely has that sports bar environment to it.
i know for a fact that i will not be returning here in the future. with the endless choices of restaurants on broadway, this place ranks at the bottom of my list.

If you need late night bar food, you can come here.

The service is acceptable.

The food is greasy bar food - it goes with the pitchers of beer.

I personally like the ribs, the Broadway Bites (deep-fried jalapenos), and the burgers are better than average.

Don't expect too much... and you won't be disappointed.

Dine Out
By ILOVE2EAT of East Vancouver (62 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 3:28am [Dine in]

Went here on a Friday night expecting it to be very busy, and it wasn't. The servers seemed quite nice and efficient.
Appetizer: Salad portions were very small - nothing outstanding just your regular Ceasar salad with bottled dressing or the Garden Salad.
Main: Ribs were delicious and got quite a few ribs. The brisket was very tasty. But the pulled pork was very yucky. Too spicy and too tough to chew. Very small portion (Thank goodness . . . I guess!!) for the pulled pork. Delicious coleslaw and vegetables for the side. Generous toppings for the baked potatoes. But not much for french fries. Also ordered the poutine which was very, very tasty and HOT throughout!! Yum.
Dessert: Both were delicious - apple pie and Pecan tart!!
Overall: Most of us said we will go back to try the other things on the menu!
Just don't try the pulled pork!!!

Cheap wings, but that's it!

This is my and my co-workers' place favorite place to go to watch hockey games. WIngs are decent and cheap, and they offer other specials during game nights as well. I only usually order wings and sometimes fries when we go to Migz, and the wings are decent (not the best, but not bad either) but the fries are not that great. It is quite surprising how an establishment can go wrong with fries, but these fries were quite undercooked. My co-workers have also ordered burgers, and they said that they were just average burgers.

All in all, I would only go to Migz for a hockey night out with friends, but not much else.

True BARbeque
By JJ18 of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Tuesday, May 19, 2009 - 5:02pm [Dine in]

OK...wanted to go to this place for quite a while hoping that it would be a decent alternative to the other BBQ place in town (MB). Boy were my hopes dashed the moment i stepped through the door. Emphasis on BAR rather than BQ - this place is a sports bar - no if, ands or buts...
The menu is very reflective of this also. Beer and drinks accompany their daily specials. What decent BBQ joint would have BURGERS on their menu??? Albeit they are good looking burgers as a fellow diner succumbed to the burger special, I wanted to test their BBQ - so i ordered the brisket and pulled pork with coleslaw. So sorry to say that both were equally disappointing for the $$ I would be paying. brisket was tough and chewy and pulled pork resembled strands of really dry hair..really sorry portions as well. the kicker had to have been no coleslaw in the pulled pork sandwich! I had to put the side slaw into the sandwich myself which left me with no sides!! The only saving grace for this place is probably a delicious pecan pie - served warm! However, i do suspect that the desserts were bought in and not house made. Also - New York Cheesecake at a BBQ place?? please - where is the cobbler?
If you want a place to watch the game, by all means, this is decent hangout...but for better BBQ - head minutes east...
(props to the server who was really attentive!!)

I just thought of going there right now.
It's like an answer to Memphis Blues if you love the food but sometimes you feel a bit guilty for self inducing a heart attack. It has the pulled pork, ribs, sausages but it also gives you a wider selection of options for the sides and not just beans and coleslaw (Migz has coleslaw, rice, fries, yam fries and a few more). It does get rowdy because it welcomes a lot of sports teams but it definitely only adds to the ambiance.

Amazing burgers

I love the burgers here. One of the best I have ever had and I'm fussy about my burgers. The fries are fantastic too. The Canucks game special is amazing value. Burger, fries and beer for $10! Nachos with pulled pork is also fantastic. I recommend this place as a really good local sports bar. Well, local if you live in Kits.

Really nice place to watch a game. Lots of screens, but kind of intimate. Very nice service too.

Giving this place a 4, or "outstanding" rating would be too much, but it is pretty good. They have good pub specials, the service is always good, and I've always had good food. Its your basic pub style, great place to watch sports as they have some of the best tv's on the Kits side.

It's a sports bar with bad food
By janet5052 of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, April 17, 2009 - 9:05pm [Dine in]

I've been here several times to watch hockey games because it has lots of tvs and it's never too busy. It's funny that this placed is called a "barbeque" because it's really just a sports bar that has bar food. There's nothing special. Actually, the bar food is probably worse quality that that of other bars. The nachos are gross. Had them late night with some drinks and it was like they used canned cheese and put them on some nachos. Worst nachos ever. The burgers are okay, nothing special. Ribs are definately not fresh (i.e. from frozen) and there's not that much meat on them.

Only reason I go there is for drinks and the game.

I can't believe it's a part of Dine Out Vancouver!!

Made a reservation for 10 people on a Sunday night as required by DOV. When we arrived, we were told to seat ourselves since they never put together a table for us. What was the point of making the required reservations when they weren't going to do anything anyways? It's was a good thing that the restaurant was empty as we had to move tables around so all of us could sit together. I told the waitress that I was going to have the beef brisket for myself and my 5 yr old. I was extremely disappointed with the meal since it was so spicy that we couldn't eat it. Brisket should be very tender meat but this was like slices of leather! The waitress should have clued in that the meal was for a child and informed me that it was really spicy or at least have it stated on the menu so I could order another meal, right?? All of our meals were so spicy that no one enjoyed it at all. It was like eating straight pepper!! The desserts were another disappointment as the pies were cut in slivers. Why bother including dessert if they were going to cheap out on the size of it? The service was poor as we had to keep chasing the waitress down for more drinks since the food was so spicy as she barely came by to check on us. It was my first time going there and definitely my last!!

I tried their dine out menu last weekend and I was very very happy with both the food and service. The ribs were the best I have ever had, they practically fell off the bone! The starter salad was quite small but dessert was great. Service was excellent, our waiter was very attentive and helpful, although the place was quite busy. We were advisxed that the portions were smaller than normal, but what do you expect for $15. i would definately go there again and again

Crash and (un)Burned

The funny part is that I had one of the best steaks in my life here, a few years back (up there with a good Keg-steak experience). But it went through a flurry of names, like Fatso's, Slim'z and finally Mig'z. It was a downward slide, apparently.

It seems mixed up between wanting to be a sports bar (couple of flatscreens on the walls), the southern BBQ place of their roots (murals of jazz-related images), and/or something for the faux-brooding-artsy-types (dark interior with colourful contemporary photography prints), or something. I wasn't sure what the decor was going for, thought it mostly came off dark and mixed-up. (Best part were the prints on the east wall, photos of Broadway, and a cool montage of street signs.)

We also decided it's one of those places that would benefit from the old "free basket of peanuts on the table toss the shells on the floor"-type places. At least, it wouldn't hurt, and might be a step in the direction they seem to be stumbling toward.

Service was ok, and easily the best part of the experience, though I have to add the place was almost completely empty (at dinnertime) so it wasn't a stretch to be available.

In the end, this place has given me one of the best steaks in my life, and now one of the worst. There was so much gristle riddling the steak I left about half of it on the plate, and it was undercooked even by medium-rare standards: quite "rare" on one side, though the other side was fine. And I think I chomped on a piece of bone, though I took it out of my mouth without investigating too closely, and it may have been, you know, one of those "charred bits" (but not likely, given how little time it spent on the grill).

I feel bad because it's a great room, and has the foundations to be cool. But it needs to work on some stuff. Might be a place to go for a pint to watch the game, and perhaps the appies are better.

We're not going back. I'm sad about that, because I really did have one of the best steaks ever.

First and Last Time @ Migz
By sarahnmittens of Vancouver (3 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, June 18, 2007 - 5:11pm [Dine in]

We arrived at Migz and were seated right away as the restaurant was empty that Sunday night. Between the four of us we ordered a plate of wings and two 3-person platters. The wings were very unappetizing as they were dry and had very little flavor. The platters which came with three kinds of BBQ meat and two sides each were also very unappetizing. The pulled pork was actually wet (not juicy), the ribs were very dry and had very little meat on the bones and the beef brisket was saturated in a heavy BBQ sauce which overpowered the taste of the meat. Our group had to send back the baked beans (which was more like a soup chili) because they were too salty, the fries were just average. To replace the baked beans we ordered a side of cream corn and a side of hush puppies (deep fried cornbread balls), these two dishes saved the meal. The corn was fresh and crisp and in a fabulous cream sauce (definitely not traditional cream corn) and the hush puppies where piping hot, crisp and full of flavor. The total came to just over $60 with the beverages.

Our waitress seemed to be lacking in experience but she was attentive and worked hard to make us happy diners.

What ever happened to a good rib joint?
By carinaycc of North Vancouver (14 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, January 28, 2008 - 11:04pm [Dine in]

Went out for DOV.
6/8 ordered dine out.
salads were as salads could go.
All of our ribs were over cooked, thus making the ribs too salty b/c of the dryness. I liked the spicyness of the sauce. They should have mentioned somewhere that it's spicy. A friend of mine couldn't finish b/c of it. Portions were ok for $15 bucks.
Dessert, the chef should practice on cutting. some were 2 times the size of others.
I shared the meat sampler for 3 and there were only 2 of us. Not enough for 3 normal eaters. The rice that it came with was simply steamed rice. (not a good combination). Creamy corn was just corn with cream. (I don't have to say that it wasn't good, right?)
We ordered the veal bones (beef jerky would have been a better description), baby ribs (they were very good at hiding the dry ones at the bottom), and smoked chicken (nothing smoky about it).
Needless to say...won't be going back.
The waiter was good though.
