Michi serves gourmet waffles and a variety of coffees on Robson Street.
My brother and I stumbled upon this dessert place after dinner one night, and we were drawn in by the yummy waffle display in front of their window. Not much ambiance to speak of, just an ordinary coffee house (though it felt more like it has a "bubble tea place" type decor). The service was mediocre, the guy behind the counter didn't greet us or anything, just kind of stared at us until we were ready to order.
We decided to try to matcha waffle, with matcha ice cream, match whipped cream and caramel drizzle on top. It was surprisingly delicious!! Never underestimate the mouth-watering power of a warm, freshly made waffle with ice cream. Oh my gosh, it was absolutely to die for!! It was, warm, light and fluffy, paired with the cold ice-cream and googy caramel sauce....it was a total orgasmic experience in your mouth!
Perfect place when you want to treat yourself with a little something nice!
I came here for a mid-afternoon coffee the other day. The first thing I noticed was that it was well appointed inside with a modern, black, sleek look. I ordered an Americano and my friend had the same with a waffle as well. The waffle was pretty good and so was my espresso coffee. However, I think it was a single but my own fault for not asking or ensuring I got a double because it was a little watery. This would be a great place to go after a dinner date for a coffee and a dessert waffle.
I tried out this place with my friend one night while we were hanging out in downtown Vancouver.
Basically had the same experience as the customer below. The guy behind the counter didn't say much, we greeted him first...lol? We wanted to try the green tea waffle sundae, but he said they were out of it. So we got the Summer Delight waffle sundae.
We sat down at the table by the window and after about 10 minutes he brought out our waffle to the table. It was really good. On the bottom was the waffle w/ icing sugar sprinkled over it, and vanilla ice cream and whipped cream on top. There were wedges of strawberries and melon, with chocolate syrup drizzled over everything. It was our first time here and we only wanted to try out the waffles. Next time I'll go back and try something from their hot beverage selection and a different waffle.
Michi is a nice place to spend time with friends as well as a great place to hang out alone.
It's quite busy during the daytime when everyone wants to try they're aesthetically appealing waffles (I still have yet to try).
At night (they're open 'til late), it's quieter but VERY comfortable.
I enjoy their selection of coffee and tea. They also have bubble tea and slush.
Give this place a try! You can't go wrong with that many different things to choose from and they clean and simple space!
Like I mentioned above, it's not a big coffee shop and tables can be full a lot of the time, so put that into mind and expect waits.
(please don't trust my ratings 100%, it's a different thing for everyone)
I came here a few times and loved my coffee each and every time. I have tried everything from lattes to cyphons to espresso and cappuccino, which I all enjoyed. The beans that they use are from some of my favorite roasters: origins and 49th parallel, which is a great bonus. I was slightly shocked when i saw the espresso machine that they use, a synesso, one of the best in the coffee industry, and not something you'd see everyday. In fact, this is the only cafe that I've been to in Vancouver that uses a synesso. Almost everywhere else use a standard la marzocco. The espresso is smooth and goes down very easily. The cyphon was tons of fun to watch. As it being one of the most difficult method of brewing coffee, the barista seemed to hit it right on. And trust me, when a cyphon is made correctly, it is truly incredible.
Would definitely come back for the coffee!!!
I had seen Michi the other day, and wanted to try their coffee, since it was new. I noticed immediately, how beautifully decorated & modern their cafe was and was greeted by a warm & friendly host.
I decided to order an Americano inside, to enjoy my coffee in this sleek place and my coffee didn't disappoint. Nice music, the mugs were perfect and the Americano was a nice blend and soothing. If I had more time, I would have tried their Waffles, but next time.
The best part, since they're new, they gave me 20 percent of my coffee, for a limited time and being new.
Will be back.
