North Indian cuisine in a fully licensed restaurant. Lunch buffet is $7.95, delivery is available and the restaurant is open 7 days a week.
I was in the area and saw the $7.95 AYCE sign and popped in for a quick bite. The buffet consisted of about eight dishes. The butter chicken and mutter paneer in a rich creamy sauce was especially good. Usually one does not find this kind of mutter paneer in a buffet selection. The only letdown was the dessert. The gulab jamun was served cold and I prefered my gj served warmand it tasted as if it was made a couple of days earlier.
Unfortunately some of the dishes, such as the chilli chicken was not ready yet. But not their fault as it was 11:40 when I came in and I had a 12:00 meeting with my accountant down the street.
Overall the Mezbaan is a much better deal than the Samosa Garden across the street. I wished the friendly owner success in his new venture and promised to return and dine in a more leisurely manner.
I went to Mezbaan based on positive reviews, and was not disappointed! Definitely some of the best Indian food I've tried. The dinner buffet is only from Sunday to Wednesday. I have yet to try the buffet but will be doing so very soon!
Appetizer + beer for under $7 is a great deal. The veggie pakoras were amazing!
Some of the best, friendliest service I've gotten in a long time.
The ambience is solid; the music was great and suited the place well.
A very enjoyable experience on all accounts; I look forward to returning soon!
The food was edible, but it was hard to enjoy because the restaurant itself is filthy! The walls and floor look like they haven't been cleaned in years. No care is taken in the restaurant, so it makes me uneasy about the food. The buffet is a good deal if you don't mind seeing leftover food on the ground and having poor service. Our bread didn't come until we finished our meal.
yesterday i dine in MZB with my two friends, even i can say that they brought me in Mzb. i am usually not fond of having buffet or thali etc. due to the quality of food. i always go by menu but my friends insisted me to try their lunch buffet, it was a mind blowing experience, there is a variety of food(veg & non-veg). i first time tried yoghurt curry & biryani , it was cool. server served fresh & fluffy naan on table & keep refilled the water. my friends enjoyed butter chicken& fish masala a lot. they have chai(tea) in buffet too. they informed us that they serve dinner buffet too , that have more variety than lunch buffet. now they are going to serve Monday buffet Bonanza , all we can eat in all day only in $6.99. now i cann't stop myself to come back here with my friends. one & most superb thing is that now i am not scared of having buffet specially like mezbaan's buffet. High five to MZB.
First time to try the Dinner Buffet (available Sunday to Wednesday), as I usually come in for the awesome lunch.
Similar to the lunch buffet, there is a good variety of items. Aside from the delicious Tandoori Chicken, dinner offers a couple *new* dishes like Lamb Curry and Chicken Masala. As always, Fresh, Hot Naan brought to your table and unlimited Chai tea is included.
Excellent value for the price ($10.95), solid food and service!
Mezbaan is a great local restaurant! Haven't been yet? You should definitely check it out. Easy to get to location too.
We went on a weeknight. It wasn't too busy aside from another table.
The Dinner All You Can Eat menu, includes Lamb curry. Aside from the dinner additions, the same items on their lunch menu are still available during dinner buffet, (butter chicken etc.)
Because it was a slow night, the buffet items were not replenished. A few of the items were lukewarm, and seems like had been sitting there a while. The rice was hard. On the plus side the naan bread was fresh, and hot.
I usually prefer lunch because the food items are fresh, and replenished often because it's busier.
Side note: The bathroom had no toilet paper.
Dinner is good if you arrive while it is fresh.
Mezbaan may not be the biggest restaurant in vancouver, but when it comes to food and services, I believe they are amongst the top. I can tell it from my own experience. The 'All you can eat lunch buffet @ $ 7.95' is more than worth a second try. There was no compromise on the quality and taste, and it was one of the best lunch buffets I have ever had. There is plenty of indian and fusion dishes to choose from. The naan breads which comes with the buffet were so fresh and warm and I haven't had to wait for long. Yes, the interior of the restaurant is a little small, but it is clean and tidy. Unlike traditional indian dishes, the food is not too spicy, thus friendly to your taste buds. I recommend all food lovers to try it and feel the difference......
I recommend anyone to try atleaset one time as a good experience to eat tasty food. These days all the restaurants have been too commercial and the quality is less. But this one for the price of $7.95 you are getting very nice and tasty food with good service and also clean place. Although the place is little small but convinient location for parking and also clean to eat. The lunch buffet is really really awesome for the price and also tasty.Especially they had the fruit mixed fried rice is really good. also chilli chicken and butter chicken with vegetarian dishes are all good. Please I encourage anyone to try and feel happy enough to eat tasty food. Thank you for checking my review.
My sister and her family had dinner here and recommended we give it a try since it's only 4 blocks from where I work. Hubby and I ordered garlic naan which we both thougth was the best naan we've had (light and fluffy), veggie pakoras (batter was light and not greasy), veggie biryani, and butter chicken. We've been to quite a few Indian restaurants in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond, and the the portions here are not huge but are the most generous. You have a sense that the food is made with "love". The owner was friendly. The decor is clean and like most restaurants on Kingsayn nothing special. The owner mentioned the lunch buffet and on the following Friday, a group of 5 "buffeted" there. We agreed that the selection is smaller than other buffets but the flavour and quality was better and the food seemed less rich/creamy than the other Indian restaurant across the street. We'll be back.
the 7.95 buffet is an awesome deal! The food is pretty good but not my favourite but for value its really amazing! They have a couple of vegetarian and meat dishes there, and as far as I can see they always have butter chicken. The usually offer 2 main veggie dishes and then a couple of meat dishes. I've seen them offer mutter paneer / lamb vindaloo / veggie lentil curry / eggplant veggie curry / tandoori chicken they usually have a couple of appetizers and a small dessert.
i don't find the sauces as rich as some of the other places like saffron. but its such a great deal for 7.95 the food is good but not the best. I also like the fact that they have chai tea and one of the owners? waiters is really nice there too.
there was another one that said he would charge extra if we wanted more naan bread, and i was thinking isn't this ayce? but other than that the service has been really good
We are new to the neighbourhood,so while taking a stroll around the town,we came across this beautiful, cozy place with the most scrumptious indian food my tastebuds have ever tasted!
It was lunch time and my dad and I helped ourselves to the before we simple couldn't resist for 8 bucks!!!!The appetizers consisted of myriad of pakoras to choose from and nice, crunchy samosas which were just perfect ( no oil dripping along my fingers). The main consisted of several different vegetarian and non-veg dishes with rice and naan. The naans were soft and tender, and when dipped in the delicious Shahi paneer gravy,it just melted in my mouth, and the flavour was something to savour!!!:) The panner curries are marvellous!!Hats off to the chef!I have since being buying their 'palak paneer naan' which is a bread stuffed with cottage cheese regularly. It's a full filling snack!!
The all-you-can-eat buffet is more than a bargain for just 7.95!The food is absolutely delicious and I would assure that you would not regret this mezbaan experience!!Warm and friendly owner and host who are readily at your service.Sotthing music in the background. . quiet and cozy atmosphere. . MEZBAAN IS ONE TO INDULGE YOUR SELF IN!!!!
Fabulous food ... should I go on? The chef here has clearly had plenty of experience in cooking Indian food, but he is also confident about trying new things (and luckily for us, he has superb taste). I have never had better eggplant (sorry mother-in-law!!) and the fresh bread is insanely good, both the naan which is served free with buffets, or even better, the paratha - it actually melts in your mouth. Cheese dishes are cooked to perfection (no rubbery tasteless paneer here), and dishes are garnished beautifully.
The service is equally five-star-worthy; the co-owner serves with calm professionalism, neither invisible nor getting in your way every two minutes. He is aware of what his customers want, and when they want it, and he brings it with a smile and a flourish.
Buffets have already been mentioned by many - and yes they are as awesome as everyone says. Ridiculously good value, and the quality of the buffet food is not compromised as it can be with other restaurants. We spend $8 per head on lunch buffet, which is remarkable considering this includes fresh naan, salads and dessert, plus various tidbits such as pakoras and papri, and a solid range of vegetarian and non-veggie dishes. For dinner from the a la carte menu we spend around $35 (two adults and a child); for food this good it's definitely a bargain.
Ambiance could be improved upon, though I'm happy that I can take my young son and not feel out of place. Someone else mentioned that the restaurant has a neighbourhood feel to it (an accurate comment), and that suits us fine. The seats are comfy, and the tables and dinnerware are always spotless.
Thought we'd try this place out the other day with friends as we had been looking for a good Indian restaurant in the area. Yes, the buffet has a small selection of curries etc. but well worth it, as everything was freshly made and tasty. The samosas were crisp and warm. The naan, oh so fluffy. The best thing is that we allI left feeling full and very satisfied. For $7.95, you can't beat it. If you're looking for somewhere to fill your curry fix, this is the place to go. It's not a fancy restaurant like its counterpart across the street, but much more cozy and intimate for a small group of friends to get together and share some good times over curry. Lunch buffet is from 11:30 - 2:30. The a la carte dinner menu looks well-priced and interesting. Gotta go back to try it.
The very first time I went to Mezbaan, I had JUST returned from a very long flight from South America. After twenty hours on a plane (and several in customs) I certainly didn't feel like cooking! While I was travelling, this quaint little restaurant was opened, and it happens to be just down the street from my house. So, my girlfriend and I decided to try it out as we'd never seen it before. We had tried their competitors across the street, and were slightly less than impressed on more than one occasion.
We were greeted by a very pleasant aroma and a friendly and inviting host. As it was our first time, he readily told us all about the menu, as well at the buffet. At $7.95, we couldn't resist! He also extended the cutoff time for us, after almost an hour.
The butter chicken as absolutely delicious. Very tender morsels of breast meat, swimming in a perfectly blended cream sauce of just the right consistency. The veggie pakoras are crunchy, yet not greasy, and very enjoyable. The curries, biryani, and the lamb dishes in particular are simply succulent. The host is very prompt in bringing you fresh naan, chai, and fills your glass when empty. I've sampled many dishes from the regular take-out/dine-in menu as well, and have yet to come across one that I didn't enjoy. I highly recommend trying the chefs' fusion dishes, and if you're a fan of cheese, he does wonders with paneer.
Since our first drop-in, my girlfriend and I have returned fairly consistently at least once a week. It's become sort of an unofficial tradition.
I also find the room itself charming. Rather inviting, intimate, and friendly. It has a genuine neighborhood quality to it. I've brought several friends and they are all pleasantly surprised.
Now of course, here in Vancouver, there is certainly no shortage of Indian restaurants. Unfortunately, finding one that is exceptional is a little more difficult. Mezbaan is a true diamond in the rough. The buffet is a steal, and if you're more adventurous, the main menu has a very broad selection. As long as they're there, we'll continue to go back again and again!!
Before going to this restaurant, I was a bit skeptical about the restaurant because of the name "fusion". I didn't have too good of an experience last time I tried fusion, but then again it was korean and chinese fusion, completely different. I have to also admit I don't quite agree with the choice of colour - bright orange - for the exterior of the restaurant, but you should never judge a book by its cover.
However, after trying the restaurant, I would definitely come back again with my friends.
The food was very tasty. The chicken in the butter chicken were tender and small in size. Have you been to restaurants that has butter chicken that make you wonder if they have actually properly cut the chicken? Well, I had that and thought they must threw the whole chicken in because of lack of labour. I was actually worried that I would choke to death. But Mezbaan was different, all the meat items were cut in appropriate size for cooking and eating. I enjoyed the butter chicken, the curry lamb, and the chicken kabo a lot. Then sauce that came with the deep fried vegi was amazing - perfect blend of sweetness, sourness and spice! The rice pudding was amazing as well - smooth texture. It was not heavily spiced as some other Indian restaurant, so it was good for someones who are not used to heavy spice like me.
The place looks clean and ambiance is great for the lunch buffet. It was pretty quite when I went there so I liked that.
The service is awesome because the staff was friendly. Actually, I got to talk to the chef as he has came twice around during my just over 1 hour lunch to ask about how things were. May be I am attention hungry, but I feel special with their great customer service.
The value is excellent! Butter chicken with naan and dessert plus a few other dishes for $8, that is a steal! Many places charge $10 +, so I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants good food for cheap.
I have been here last week with my girl friend.firstly we made up our mind to order food from menu but we couldn't stop ourselves to take buffet. It was the best food we ever had. Every dish was so delicious and naan bread was so soft to eat. In every bite you taste something new, superb food. the place was attractive especially the colour of wall paint. and service was outstanding.their lunch buffet price $7.95 is so cheep according to the varieties & quality of food. we will surely try again & again here and recommened our friends too. best of luck guys......
My husband and I ate at Mezbaan last night. It is new to the neighborhood, only been there a month. It was the best Indian meals I have had in years. The lassie (a yoghurt drink) was sweet and just a little tart, the pakora were mouthwatering, the curries were robust and flavorful and the naan was especially crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. It was a wonderful meal with large portions at great prices. We ate 2 curries with drinks (non-alcoholic) and a shared appetizer for $36.
Ok, so the furniture is second hand and the space is a bit shabby but they did paint and hang some pictures. Realistically it is just a small neighborhood place but the food is excellent and I have been charged twice the price for watery curry and tough naan in places that looked pretty nice. It is a good addition to the area and worth a taste.
On a dreary gray Vancouver day, my tastebuds were in dire need of a wakup call. Mezbaan fit the bill with delicious food and great service. My other half and I shared a delightful vindaloo dish and some fluffy naan. It left us satisfied and craving for an encore. Needless to say, we will be back.
Been coming to Mezbaan sinse opening 2 years ago. Have enjoyed many visits lunch buffet and regular menu always great taste and quality ingrediants chef talent shine. Tonight tried dinner buffet great tastes and value at $10.95. Host and chef complimented for thier efforts the Mezbaan experiance continues to be great value for your dining pleasure, 4 star ratings continue all reviewers i highly recommend all dine here readers make a visit to |Mezbaan.
Based on the previous reviews we just had to try it especially when we're so close by. We found a good selection of Indian dishes with plenty of food and chicken. The owners were courteous and friendly when we asked for seconds for the naan bread which wasn't burned. The only thing I didn't care for were the pickles which were greasy and the soggy dessert. But the main entrees for the buffet meal is well worth the try and of excellent value. I was too full anyways for the dessert.
