Mahony & Sons is a traditional Irish pub with locations at UBC & downtown. Offering classic pub food, big patios, live music and a great atmosphere.
A good location for an Irish pub downtown and the patio with a view of the North Shore mountains makes it simply great! No wonder it's such a busy place during summer (unless of course when it rains in this city). Well, Mahony's it is for lunch this week and I ordered the fish and chips. The presentation was pretty impressive with the newspaper and of course, the food that was served on it - one piece of halibut, yam fries (optional), coleslaw, tartar sauce, and ketchup. So how does it compare to Pajo's and Dave's in Steveston? Well, it didn't come close to being my favourite. The batter was a bit soggy, and too much for my liking so after scrapping off some of the batter with my fork, I was really left with a small piece of the halibut. Well, at least the yam fries and coleslaw wasn't too bad. However, the $16 item on the lunch menu would definitely not make me rush out the office to beat the lunch crowd.
