Lombardo's serves real Italian authentic pizza and fresh pasta.
The restaurant looks a little crowded & the decor is a little ridiculous with cheap accessories. However, the food was very satisfactory. The 4 of us order a few dishes to share: My favourite is the calamari, which is very light & crunchy & not oily at all; Tagliatelle with smoked salmon capers was very good though a little salty; Penned loaded with prawns and scallops and the white wine sauce was excellent; I can't remember which exact pizza we ordered (I think maybe Prosciutto Funghi) but it's very very good. Service was decent.
We are frequent flyers of Marcello's and wanted to check out Lombardo's (haven't been there for over 10 yrs.) All in all, it was satisfactory. We shared a pizza and thought the crust was undercooked and doughy. Caesar Salad a bit bland, Tagliatelle with creamy meat sauce ( not enough sauce) way better at Marcello's. However, I must say the Spaghetti Pomodoro with Mussels was delicious!
Service was ok, Food satisfactory. if I had to choose between the Italian joints around that area (Federico's, Marcello's) I'd choose the latter. Don't think I'd return unless the other previously mentioned restaurants had a line up...
I was a fan of this place because the pizza here is really good and the location for me is great too. I will only comment on the bad experience I had with staff. The restaurant was dead at 1pm on a weekday and we were the only ones there. I wanted to order drinks which they took their time to come by to take the order, then when it was time for the bill the two girls were talking at my table and couldn't figure out how much my bill was suppose to be. It was kind of awkward and dumb on their part. Then when I looked at my bill after I realized they charged my 13.50 for a half order of calamari! I was shocked, I never paid that before. I eat at fine Simon restaurants and there are very few that have calamari on their menu as an appy but even they don't charge 13.50! Calamari is dirt cheap so why are they charging almost as much as one of their pizzas????? There are many nice pizzerias on the drive so i will be going elsewhere. fyi Lombardos,The Reno looks nice but definitely wasn't necessary. It was already a nice place, you wasted money for nothing ad charging us for it in the bill.
I think this place has the best pizza in town! And, though I don't usually order pasta when I go out, the pasta putinesca (sp) is great. They use fresh pasta, which some people might not be used to. Ignore the location (in a funny little indoor strip mall in the pink building at 1st and Commercial) and enjoy the ambiance when you are in there. have always had good service but most of all, their pizza is fantatstic!
Our second time to Lombardo's. We shared a large pasta, calamari, and salad for two people. The Calamari was outstanding (better than Stepho's). She liked it, she said it was less oily than other places. I liked the dip. The caesar salad was fresh and had a very nice dressing. The pasta we ordered was clam and light tomato sauce. This was the only thing we didn't like. We thought there would be real clams mixed in. Instead, the clams came from the can and you could taste a bit of sand here and there. I ate it but she didn't like it. Will return, and try another pasta to compare.
Went on a Saturday night - just packed out in there had to wait 45 mins for a table.. but again so worth the wait. We had Spagetti and ragu, & Lagsana.. oh my gosh so very very good. The waitress made sure we were well looked after even though she was run off her feet. I love this place Great food, great service and fab value for the money :)
Don't go here if you are in a rush, but if you want great pizza and pasta served by friendly staff at a casual pace you cannot do better.
Pizzas range from the subtle to assertive, but all are wonderful. The fried calamari is usually super and the green salad is tossed with a light dressing of oil and herbs, which turns this carnivore towards the green side of the menu.
If you don't like the wine list ask for Patti's private selection. There will usually be a bottle of Ca'Bolani or something equally interesting but the plonk blanc de maison and the jugs of red are fine for everyday consumption.
Rivalled by Marcello's down the road for the food, here the service is friendlier, the pace is slower and it is possible to hear your partner rave about the food.
located in a mall complex and noticed an "outdoor" setting. With all the other outdoor patio restaurants on the drive, i thought it was a little tacky.
reserved for a large party of approx 18 on a non-busy night and the waitress was on our case about having 2 ppl arrive late and them losing business for having an open table... seriously!?
when we wanted to order, she snapped at us and said she'd get drinks first. One of our friends who ordered wine got glass with water drips and stains on it. During the night, I had to keep asking for water re-fills. When we finally did order food, she had to repeat all the orders...
Food was only ok (I had a pizza) but expensive for its value and nothing our of the ordinary which makes it worse than it really is.
Worst part was at the end of the night, we got an automatic 18% gratuity. I understand that we had a large party but an automatic tip does not mean you can act snobby and not care about your customers.
Worst part of the night was when we paid, she blatantly asked us if she could count the money in front of us. That was probably the worst service I've ever received in my life. Save your money for other more desirable places on the drive. You can't get any worse than this.
After reading all the positive reviews, we decided to use our Entertainment coupon and try it out tonight. I called and made a reservation and was looking forward to a nice evening out with my husband and young son. We ordered the calamari, the Contadina pizza and lasagna to share. The calamari while seasoned well was quite chewy (good portions though for a small), the pizza was not hot and dough was soggy. I like my thin crust pizzas to be light and crispy. The lasagna was cold in the middle so we had it sent back. By the time it came back, our 21 months old son was ready to go so we had to get the lasagna to go instead. The waitress was very nice but I was disappointed that they did not offer to just take the lasagna off our bill and let us use the Entertainment coupon again. We have decided that we will not be going back...just wasn't worth the effort.
My family and I were at lombardo's Restaurant pizzeria yesterday to celebrate my birthday... well what can I say? Go there if you want to eat a real Italian pizza!!!! That was sooooo delicious and yes I will go there for another occasion for sure! The only thing that I noticed was that the pizza dough should be more salty but was really good anyway!
The service was really good too!!! Give it a try if you have a chance! It's worth it!!!!!
