Horrible Management - Do Not Book Events Here

I'm not going to mince words in this review. We had a completely disastrous event at Lily Mae's.

Understanding it's a small restaurant, we booked our party two and half weeks ahead of time, confirming with the manager, and even asking if the restaurant preferred that we order from the group menu if it will make it easier on the kitchen. The manager said it didn't matter, but would send a group menu. Time passed by. We were sent the menu only after following up, and received it 2 days before the event, with the stipulation that each guest had to pre-order their meals within 1 day.

When we arrived, the evening started out fine. But then the food didn't come. When it did arrive, only two or three people were served at a time, with long lulls between dishes, and strange overlaps happened, where someone would be finishing their main course, but the person next to them didn't get appetizers yet. Some of the food arrived cold, while others didn't arrive at all and we had to reiterate our order several times to the manager when he kept asking "What's missing now?"

Then things got weird. The manager singled out the birthday girl, brought her into the bathroom and shut the door. He then ranted about the delay in food service being the fault of our reservation being at 7:15pm when we arrived at 7:30pm. This was a complete lie since we even had an email confirmation clearly saying 7:30pm. (Even if that were the case, would starting15 min. later really make a difference?) The birthday girl came back to the table and continued to wait for her appetizer (one hour late at this point) - when the manager came back to ask for a hug from her. She reluctantly hugged him, but it was so surprising, and unprofessional. Then, he tried to hug another person at the table (that person declined, saying he didn't like to be touched).

In general, it was a very odd evening. To be fair, the food that did come hot was solid. French onion soup had a nice broth, and the duck confit was good. The other wait staff were nice, but sadly, the food isn't spectacular enough to make up for incompetent management.

Good food but just too slow

Came on a weekend and they were just cleaning up after a big group had taken over the restaurant. Reservations for 7:30 but didn't get seated until closer to 8. Nice small restaurant with a great ambiance, small 2nd floor overlooking resto. Sat on the main floor which is just Ok. Ordered appies right away and had the pate - very good, crab cakes - just OK as not much flavor. However the order tood about 45 mins to arrive. We ordered the mains before the appies arrived and that took over 1 hour to arrive. Tried the rib eye - very thin cut, overcooked and chewy; stuffed chicken - average just OK and the mussels - very good. The manager/owner and server came to apologize for the wait and even took the steak dish off. Just the fact the kitchen couldn't push the food out fast enough, I would not return. Prices are pretty good but overall, lots of other places to go without having to wait for average food.

Very good brunch

I went to Lily Mae's for brunch the other day and had a pleasant experience. The place is small and quaint. The service was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Sunny Day eggs benedict which comes with crab, avacado and tomato. Normally I would just order the classic benedict but this was really good and a nice change. The benedict had a solid amount of crab on it and the hollandaise sauce was very tasty with a nice tang.

Overall, I enjoyed my meal here and would return; I would like to try their dinner menu. It would be nice to see a more expansive beer menu but considering how small the place is, not really surprising that they have to keep it small.
