I've been to Library Square on different occasions to meet friends and we ended up there last weekend around 10.30pm, there was tons of people and the dj was playing some awesome 80s hits and some stuff i hadn't heard but sounded pretty cool.
I guess on Saturdays it turns into a club.
Anyway we played on the hickey table and some of the new video games they have upstairs and before we knew it, it was like 3am and they were turning the lights on.
We're gonna head back there just was we had a hassle free fun night on the weekend, and that hasn't happened in a while.
Stumbled in to the "square" the other night after a concert at gm place, who knew!
How I have missed this gem is beyond me. The room was packed, the crowd was super friendly and fun, and the dj was outstanding!
Too late to eat but will definately go back for a bite. Great spot to catch a canucks game and they show UFC!!!
I went with a friend to the Library Square Public House before a BC Lions game. We arrived at 6:20 for a 7:30 game, assuming we'd have enough time to hang out and enjoy the meal. We were wrong.
They weren't full so we seated ourselves pretty much right away, no problem. We got menus, and my friend ordered a beer pretty much right away so that was no problem. The beer arrived, we ordered burgers and I ordered a beer. No problems at all.
After about 20 minutes since ordering, they brought my beer and the server appologised saying the beer taking so long was her fault, but the food taking so long was the kitchen's fault.
Then nothing. Nothing at all. The food was completely absent along with any kind of service.
About 40 minutes after ordering, the guys beside us got their food. They ordered a minute or so before us so my stomach was excited.
Nothing. No explanation, no offer of appetizers to keep us fed, no offer to refill beers, not even water. Let me remind you, the place was not full, it wasn't even busy at this point, most of the people must have left for the game. And we didn't order anything special. Burgers do not take this long. There was some comfort in the fact we weren't the only ones getting this service, but that's also a bad sign for the restaurant.
At around 7:20 we considered paying for the beer and leaving, but then the food arrived! 50 minutes for burgers! No comments from the servers. We had to wolf down our food to run off to the game.
The food seemed ok. The burger was good, the fries were like frozen McKain's (not great). My friend complained his burger was not very hot, mine was fine though.
The place looked nice, lots of TVs, foosball, etc. If you're going to stay a while and don't need food quickly or any real service, I suppose these things can come in handy.
We had to move to another table to fit the other 4 members of our table. I had to write another review because the server was so terrible. I know that she was super busy, but she didn't even have time to appoligize for the lack of service, or a smile. Everything (except the food) took longer than it should have. I will come back because I like the place and the selection of drinks... but I'll either sit at the bar or try a different server.
I always make a point of being positive about a situation, always look on the upside. But last night at Library Square really rubbed me the wrong way. It was my first time at the establishment, and honestly heard numerous great things about it. But I was surprised when I was charge three different prices for the same drink. The first time I had ordered a double scotch and a double vodka 7. The total came to $23. Although a tad pricey, acceptable for a downtown bar. I asked the individual prices for the drinks and was told the double vodka 7 was $11 and the double Johnny Walker Black was $12. The second time I had ordered the double scotch, I was charged $16! And to add insult to injury, the third time I ordered it, it was $15.
The location itself is nice and easy to get to, lots of parking, and a straight forward setup inside. The overall ambiance is good with a nice mix of people. The music was also good and kept a decent crowd on the dance floor at most times.
Would I have recommended this place previous to the drink charges, for sure. Would I actually go out of my way now to go back or tell someone about it in a positive manor, no. It is one of those "Use at your own risk" places.
