La Taqueria is a traditional Mexican taqueria with limited bar seating based on an authentic Mexican, street food concept. Cash only. Hours: 11-8:30pm Monday to Saturday.
This is far and away the best Mexican place in Vancouver. Everything tastes amazing and their service is quick and friendly.
I'm particularly fond of the pescado and the al pastor, which is as good as the al pastor I had in Puerto Vallarta, something I frankly didn't expect to find up here. Vancouver hasn't classically been famous for its great Mexican food and it's nice to see that that's changing.
It's good value, too: $9.50 for four meat tacos. It's a pretty small place and the seating isn't super-comfortable, but the decor is nice. On a sunny day I could just about convince myself I'd wandered into a little taqueria in PV.
Well worth checking out.
My husband and I have gone here only once, but LOVED it! The food is absolutely deliciously satisfying, and the service fantastic! I second what another reviewer has commented upon - in how many restaurants do the staff take you over to the sauces to explain what each one is?? The only downside at this location is that seating is limited. But the tasty tacos compensate for this!
finally, i don't have to head to the states to get really tasty, authentic tacos!
i tried the carne asada, al pastor, and fish.
all were really tasty, and i agree with the previous reviewer - the salsa with the fish really added a dimension - and the pineapple and pork, which i sometimes don't like as much, also worked really well.
i'll definitely be making a return visit to try the rest of the menu.
and it's nice to see veg options that are actually tempting, not just an afterthought.
the downside is, the place is bare bones - no points for ambiance, that's for sure. and the value isn't really fantastic, but considering the quality and taste, it's worth the price - a good light meal for 10 bucks.
highly recommended when you're in the area, and definitely fills a niche in vancouver that's been missing.
