La Mezcaleria by La Taqueria is an old school Mexican diner and Oaxacan-style Mezcaleria running the gamut from tostadas and enchilidas to cold beer and rare Mezcals.
I tried this place yesterday during Italian Day on Commercial Drive. They had an outdoor kitchen setup in front of the restaurant on the street. I ordered a couple tacos (pork confit and beef) and a Negra Modela.
All I have to say is that these were two of the tastiest tacos I have had in Vancouver. I am definitely going to come back and have a full meal here. Definitely recommended based on what I tried but will report back further when I make it back.
I have been there twice, also celebrated my bday and i had a great time!
The mezcal shots and drinks are awsome, they brought me different kind of cocktails and all were delicious,
As a mexican i can say the food is very good, i loved the queso fundido and the guacamole, the chocolatte mousse its great too.
The service is great, they have very kind people attending the place and the restaurant decoration is awsome I really love it. Very Mexican!! feel like home.
My friend whoes birthday party it was went at 7 pm and asked for a certain table for 8 pm. At 7:45 she came back and her table had been give to someone else. Just disorganized servers that couldnt think to put a "reserved sign on the table" .
The service was lame and verging on rude, we had to compete with other tables to get service. Over priced drinks, I had a cesear ( cesears at timbre are way better), I had fish tacos which were very bland, I must say the guacomole and chips were the best thing served. I much prefer the tacos at Bandidas!
Every time the waiter left our table he would say GRACIAS..... it was really annoying as I doubt the waiter spoke spanish and do they really think it makes a place more authentic Mexican but throwing out gracias?...
If you are 20 something and want to think your hip, maybe this is your place to spend your paycheque...
