Ownership Change??? Disappointing...

So after many many visits to Vince's great ice cream parlor, the last visit was a shock. First of all the awning now has Chinese characters all over it.

When you walk in, it still looks the same. However, there are fewer staff to assist people with samples and orders. Another turn-off is the newly added signs posted all around the ice cream cases about not trying too many samples. At least under Vince there was never any demand. We usually try a few first to narrow down the choices, but now it seems to be discouraged. Service also seems to lack eye contact depending on the server.

The gelato was still pretty good, but a decent size scoop depends on who is scooping. I suggest watching a few servers and picking the best one. No point in being ripped off when you're paying $4 per cone.

Sorry to see a decline, and we'll probably only come back if we're desperate. Goodbye to an era. Thanks for the memories....

The assortment of flavours is mind boggling. All the free samples you want help you make your decision. The staff work hard and do not make you feel uncomfortable for having tried soooooooo many free samples. Often crowded but fast service because most folks are trying to decide what to have. A great place to take your out of town guests.

The Pits

This used to be THE place to go for gelato. It is now little more than a tourist trap charging an outrageous $4.50 for one small scoop. I vowed last September that I would never return after eating a scoop of my favourite flavour chocolate ginger which contained no pieces of ginger but plenty of bits of ice. However, recent out of town visitors insisted upon being taken there after reading some outdated review. Vince was working the cash register in almost a zombie like trance as if he were embarrassed by what the place had become and what was being charged for such an inferior product. This complete lack of ambiance only emphasized how far the place had fallen. A TIP: If you're forced to go there, take a good look at the flavour you plan to order. If it doesn't look soft and creamy, choose something else.

Great Tourist Place and Delicious Flavours

We hit this landmark in 2014 when our in-law came for a visit and spent about 1.5 hours at the ice cream gelato place tasting alot of delicious flavours. On the downside, it is expensive and overpriced like all in the business but we had fun and picture memories of our in-law's visit so its a win-win situation.

Favorite Gelato Place

I've been coming here for years and I have to say it is still great - I wasn't sure what the other complaints are.

Whenever we have relatives with kids visiting us we take them and they are amazed by the smells looks of the place.

The flavors are wide ranging and comprehensive and I have never had a bad one to-date. The only complaint is, it can be a bit expensive. Not the most expensive Gelato i've seen but on the more pricey side.

Try their coconut gelato - a basic flavor but no one else gets it quite right.

I haven't been to Gelato International Ice Cream for a long time because I moved. The guys are really rude (even my friends don't like his tone and respond); I am sure I am not going back anymore (and I didn't buy any ice cream, even I drove more than 30mins) !!!!! The ice cream is ok, my friends and I tried a few. However the workers is very impolite.
Aparently, they were to busy to answer my simple little question So, I thought I would wait. I asked "May a have 2 flavours in single cone, half and half please". He reply "NO" and I told him that I have 2 flavours in single cone before. but he said " I have worked here for 5 years and THAT you came
MUST BE 6 years ago!" very rude!!!
he talked in a negative voice and made me feel angry

Although I haven't tried the ice cream from factory for a long time I don't think I will go anymore because the workers has left a "sour taste" in my mouth. AND I AM NOT GOING TO MISS THIS FACTORY ANYMORE, I WOULD RATHER GO TO OTHER STORE WITH LESS FLAVOUR !!!

Lots of fun and good gelato

I can't believe there are such negative reviews here! We always take out-of-town visitors to La Casa Gelato. Sure it's not the best gelato ever but some flavors are excellent and overall most are very tasty. And you can try a flavour before you get a full cone. Like someone else mentioned this is gelato not "ice cream" so has less butterfat and is not as "creamy" but personally I prefer the lighter taste. If you're the person who always orders vanilla, then you will not like it obviously, but otherwise it's great to go for the experience of being able to see (and sample) such a variety of flavours. It's fun to try flavours like wasabi or sesame. My favorites so far have been White Chocolate Raspberry and the Chocolate mixed nuts. Definitely worth a visit.

Just not good...

Like most of the reviews here mentioned, the ownership change must have led to the decline in the quality of gelato, as well as the experience...

I just want to say simply that their gelato is not good - even the good or regular flavors are terrible - there's something about the consistency that's not smooth and rich. But I guess if you're making 218 different kinds of flavors you're trying to save money somewhere... Too bad it's on the quality of the gelato itself.

MMMM....Gelato!

Have we notice that gelato places have sprouted up everywhere in the last few years. It reminds me of the 80s when we used to have Ice Cream places everywhere-but almost all closed down.
I guess its time for a come back. And La Casa answered the call brilliantly. It's not only delicious gelato, the service is spectacular. I think I ate an entire bowl of gelato in free samples before I actually bought any. I would've thought they would've gotten annoyed by the third sample, but they seem to hand out more free samples than bought gelato. I hope they arent losing money with this policy, cause its great, and makes the gelato buying experience more fun. I've been here a few times now, and will keep going back for sure.

This place is okay, i've been eating here for a long time. I'd say you'd have quite a variety of flavours when you come here. But I don't recommend the garlic flavour. I tried it to see what it tastes like, and it was horrible. Why would you even create such a flavour? I recommend the dragon fruit or purple yam, best flavours i've had and theyre unique too.

200 plus flavours? or just 200 colors and names?

I used to love 3 items from La Casa Gelato! Vodka Sorbet, Lavender Gelato and Dragon Fruit Gelato. These flavors are not available else where.

The first 2 or 3 times that I went were memorable because I really liked those special flavors that they carried.... But then I went again recently and it was really poor quality gelato. I was determined to get my Lavender flavor that day, luckily I tried it before choosing it and it has this horrible after taste and also it wasn't the right color. It was green... The first time I had it it was a light shade of Purple...

I ended up buying 2 scoops for $6 dollars. I picked Macadamia nut and also Dragon Fruit Gelato.

The Dragon Fruit Gelato had the color, but no taste.. It did not have the fruity flavor that I had experienced before and the texture was not very good.. kinda like ice water... The macadamia Gelato did not have any flavor neither.. the only way you could tell between the two scoops was.. the actual nuts that were in one of the scoops. So... basically the two scoops were both bland to the taste, and not even sweet enough...

Oh yeah... And I forgot to mention, the waffle cone was not good.. It was not crispy at all... it was kinda soft... =( I could write another paragraph about the cone.. and how disappointed I was with it..

I'm very sad that the quality has gone down so much. I will not go there again in the next couple of years... And instead... maybe I will try to make my own Lavender Ice Cream with an Ice Cream maker...

I'd read in an article that LCG was the first place in Vancouver to be an ice cream store which was in '82. Then, other places started doing the same thing. I like how this place managed to stay on top. Everyone likes different things, so they go to different places to try other flavours of gelato. The best time of the year to go to this place is before summer and after summer. When it's really busy in the summer, you just want to get outta there fast! Service is sometimes always good, but we are people, sometimes we just annoy them of the unlimited samples we get. Hopefully, this place doesn't stop their unlimited samples though because I think they're the only ones that offer unlimited samples from my experience.

A great place to bring out of towners

I always bring my out of town guests here - I think the number of flavours is up to 210!! It can get excessively busy and it can be difficult to get taste samples, but its definitely worth it. Some flavours are hit and miss, but if you choose correctly, you can get the most amazing gelato. Worth the drive.
