A Kolachy is Polish pastry-type dessert made of a sweet yeast dough, that is traditionally filled with fruit preserves, nuts or cottage cheese. At the Kolachy Shop, they take the traditional and make it modern with imaginative fillings and toppings.
Have a scrambled egg with meat variety stuffed into a pastry bun for breakfast--all in the size of the palm of your hand. Then for lunch, have a pizza-ish filled kolachy pastry/bun. For dinner, take a steak variety kolachy, and then to finish it off, have an apricot or other sweet variation kolachy/turnover-ish choice. To make it better, actually, might be to it/them into a bowl of soup or stew. Then wash down all that yeasty dough with a bottle of Boylan's Birch Beer or Cream Soda! They sell the perfect beverages to go with your favourite kolachy.
The more you buy, the more you save. All this can fit nicely into your lunchbox, if you use one... or even a picnic basket. Great food for on-the-go as they do offer to microwave it for you--though it would probably be even better if you take it home to heat it up in a toaster oven.
Quick and easy finger food. Avoid a messy meal.
We tried Kolachy Co. for the first time the other day and were so impressed by the concept, great service and the product! I really enjoyed the Spinach and Feta Kolachy (just the right amount of garlic....loved the cream cheese in it.) My fiance ordered the chicken club, and also enjoyed it. What a great little lunch spot, perfect for a "gourmet" lunch on the go!
I've been to Kolachy Co. a couple times, and had been to The Kolachy Shop a number of times before it changed hands. Unfortunately, I don't think the new ownership has done anything good for it. The food just isn't as good and it's more expensive to boot. I still recommend it, as it's still good and a good value, but I really miss what it used to be.
I'd go here if I was in the area, but I used to go out of my way to go here, and the new place frankly isn't worth that kind of effort. If the new owners wanted to do it right, they should've stuck to the original recipes.
live in the Max building next door for a few years now and never went into the restaurant, finally took the plunge, not knowing what a kolachy was. Went with the combo for lunch, I ordered the Steak & Cheese with the Tomato Basil soup, Bun was tasty, and the jam packed with delicious steak! will defiantly try again! and the soup, probably the best soup i've ever had!! looking forward to going back!
As someone who was a frequent customer over the years, the kolachies used to be better here. Ever since it came under new ownership, the prices for the kolachies have gone up while their tastiness has gone down. Unfortunately, it seems the recipes changed, and not for the better. They also do not offer dessert kolachies anymore.
My friend took me to the kolachy shop four months ago for the first time. I returned today with a work colleague as I noticed that they were open since closing for renovations. The kolachy I had was wonderful, it was a chicken club. I am not sure if it was the new decor and open kitchen or if they had changed how they prepare them but it was better than my first visit. I definitely recommend trying this place out if you are looking for a tasty treat.
