"I'll let it go...... this time"
By Mike B of Vancouver (Victoria Dr) (2 Reviews)

When this coffee shop first opened, I was ELATED!!
I wouldn't have to get the car or bike out to go get a fresh americano.

Well, after many, many months of getting coffee there almost daily, I had an unfortunate experience and haven't been back.

The staff there, although bored out of their mind, have always been pretty friendly, until one day there was this older lady working there every morning.
At first, I kind of got the feeling that she was the owner, or maybe part-owner as the regular staff seemed to have been cut back.

Now, I have tried the food they serve here a few times and I can say that the sandwiches are ok, but the muffins are dry and bland.

So one day, my partner bought a coconut bun from the bakery next to this shop and he had it in a paper bag. We went in to Koffee Kona and bought our americanos and sat at the window staring out onto exciting (not) Victoria Drive.
(keep in mind that the tables at the window seats had not been cleared of the dirty cups and dishes, which wasn't great, but oh well.) He started to eat the coconut bun while we enjoyed our coffees and all of the sudden this arm appeared over my shoulder. It was the older, grump lady who stated:

" I'll let it go this time, but next time eat that outside"

Needless to say, we felt uncomfortable. We got up, leaving our coffee's on the counter, while I stated that she should really recognize regular customers when they come in and that we wouldn't be coming back. I went on to say that we just lived across the street and it was a shame that she made a big deal about it.
She started over-talking me and yelling that she "appreciated' our business... blah blah.... I wouldn't' let her finish.

We haven't been back, and I notice now that they have reduced their operating hours and are not open on Sundays and Stat holidays.
I guess it sucks to be her.

I would like to add that,
1- she doesn't sell coconut buns
2- the bakery next door doesn't have seating
3- we were paying, regular customers
4- her muffins are horrible

Just in case anyone wants to add that my partner was rude to eat this bun while drinking her coffee.

I don't think Koffee Kona will be around for much longer.

Sometimes when I walk by in the morning, I'll buy a McDonald's coffee just so I can go "CHEERS" in the window as she watches my $$ go by.

Thanks.

good muffins as long as they get properly cooked

i'm a regular here. the only thing consistent is the coffee. their lattes are almost always quite good. the savory food is not fresh enough for my liking.... i know for a fact that one samosa was sitting there for quite a while. although that was while the former manager worked there, and an ex-regular apparently got food poisoning from the soup. the service is not bad at all now that there is no manager. one thing i wish they would do is cook the muffins a bit more so that there are no raw bits, even if they were to burn them on top, that would be better than rawness.

Good ambience... but that's it...

... good ambience in this place - faces right out to the corner of Victoria and 41st.. however, staff are not knowledgable about coffee. Asked them whether it was a dark roast or medium roast - and he turned back to ME and asked "what's the difference"....

How can you call yourself a coffee house if your KEY PRODUCT, the coffee, you're not knowledgable about? I'll give them this much: they have a big-screen LCD tv, and it's on a busy intersection, they have WiFi, but that's about it. I wouldn't be "wow'ed" in this place - rather, I'd be questioning the product. I wouldn't have too much high hopes.

Anyway, ordered the large drip brew - which is comparable (pricewise) to Starbucks, but quality-wise, just above Tim Hortons. Beans are of inferior quality. Since there aren't many coffee shops around Victoria and 41st, I might consider it if i REALLY need my caffine fix, but if not, I'd drive to Champlain Mall or 49th and Elliott for a Starbucks - at least the quality is consistent.

Maybe a place for kids to study at with their netbooks, but definitely not a place to sit down and chat.

I really wanted to like these guys - small startup, try to make it well... but inferior product, and unknowledgable staff about the very product you serve, well, that just turns me to somewhere else.

Have been here a few times now. Espresso drinks are very well prepared and of excellent quality. They have free internet access. Try the mom's apple pie square. Pharmacy attached to coffee shop that currently gives free coffee coupons with new prescriptions. Staff are very friendly and efficient. LCD TV and fireplace in cafe make for nice ambience.
