Knight and Day serves casual meals that everyone recognizes. Burgers, pastas, steaks, and sandwiches are all standard fare. KD also offers all day breakfast. KD "Neighbourhood Grill" have a slightly different and fewer menu items than their regular counterpart.
When Knight and Day decided to open up one of their restaurants on Denman Street I wasn't sure who their main market would be. Summer tourists? Seniors and apartment dwellers? People wanting a change from all the ethnic choices in the West End? I went there with two friends for a quick meal before a meeting and found the atmosphere a lot more comfortable than most similar establishments. Menu was huge and there's something on it for everyone. The all day eggs benny for $8.99 was quite tasty but the price of burgers and sandwiches might be too expensive compared to some of the lower priced restaurants on the street. Service was above average which will help them survive a while longer.
I have to agree with the previous reviewer. The KD on Denman is so new it squeaks. I decided to treat myself to an afternoon meal, and in I went. It looks awesome inside, and the servers are friendly if a bit hyper. The food is about the same as the other KD's I have visited. I recommend the mushroom burger, which was awesome. They close at 8 (I was told), but they may soon extend their hours. I suspect it is a staff issue. This place will not change your mind if you don't like diners, but if you have the extra bucks, it is a change from some of the lower priced places on the street. Good value for the money? No, try the Grove for that. But hey, its fun to try something new.
In this city I have had my share of awful steaks. After searching I found THE BEST STEAK SANDWICH IN VANCOUVER! Who'd of thought it would be here at the Knight & Day Cafe? I was pleasantly suprised at the great price but the sandwich itself was amazing. I opted for the side salad with blue cheese dressing [one of the few restaurants in town that has it] The steak was perfectly cooked, fresh and a nice size on a slice of garlic toast. It was topped with onion rings [nice touch] and slaw. All that for around $11. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant itself has nice booths for comfy dining. I loved it!
Visited the restaurant for dinner shortly after their official opening (mid-Jan 08), so their hours are not the expected 24 hours as of this writing. There was a sign that said they'll open later (9pm) in the near future.
Staff were in an extra cheerful and friendly mood (must be from the new paint). KD's menu items are not very adventurous and would remind you of Denny's selection; salad, soup, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, 'Italian', and breakfast. That's not a bad thing, sometimes you just want some simple food that you don't have to fuss over. I had a chicken sandwich and my partner had breakfast. Food presentation was nice. Our meals were good (for what it was) simple and honest, almost like you cooked it yourself. I should note the service was a tad bit on the slow side when we went, but I suspect it was due to the new opening and they didn't have the full compliment of staff.
This is certainly *not* a place you go for food that'll blow your mind, but if you just want simply prepared and familiar food that's more exciting than fast food, KD is just the place.
We went for lunch on a Satuday. We got seated very quickly. The steak sandwich on top of the garlic bread was very good, got a few onion rings along with the fries too. The food came fairly quickly, the server was also very pleasant. The booths were fairly comfortable. I would come back for lunch again..
Knight & Day is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. I've been several times now for lunch and dinner and the food holds it own. It's nice to have comfy, casual restaurant in the neighbourhood where you can sit and enjoy your meal, not feel rushed or crammed in. The menu is pretty standard diner type fare but I have had no complaints about the food. Calamari dinner was very nice, the squid cooked to perfection and not too salty. Burgers are yummy and the chef salad is tops. I'll be back!!!
So Dad and i decide to try out the dinner menu at the new Knight & Day on Denman. I should say that we had been there for breakfast a few times, very good, both us had perfectly cooked eggs(hard to get a good poached egg in this town) crisp bacon, and the pancakes were outstanding. We experienced excellant, attentive service during all of our visits. So onto dinner. Dad has beef liver and onions, I have the trukey dinner. Turkey was dry, stringy, almost like it had been micowaved too harshly, the yellow-orange coloured packaged/canned gravy was simply vile, the stuffing was comparable to Stove Top that had way too much water added to it. All in all, a very disappointing meal.
On a recent visit to Vancouver my partner and I ate several times at Knight and Day. The food was very good - I got exactly what I ordered and expected. I thought it was excellent value for money. You certainly can't eat that standard of food for those prices in the UK!! Nice place, booths offering a little privacy between diners. The staff were really friendly and helpful, giving local information and recommending places to go. My partner forgot his reading glasses and was supplied with a pair to read the menu. Never seen that happen before!!!! It felt like a small family run business. Thanks Delaney's for adding to the pleasure of a visit to lovely Vancouver.
Great meals..... no crap..... reasonably priced considering the quality of the food. I have been there several times a week and it's consistently good. Comfort food! The turkey dinner is a 10. Real turkey, stuffing, cranberry chutney, mashed buttermilk potatoes and gravy all made in-house and not salty. Refreshing.
Service is above average and the staff are nice.
My only complaint is that they only have around 15 tables, so quite often full.
Too many places on Denman of this caliber are mediocre at best. The food is like you would make at home.... from scratch. NOT out of a package like all the other casual places in the area.
You can have a nice meal and not feel high from all the food additives like you would if you went to the Grove, Teresa's or Joe's (blechhhh).
