I miss going to Kingsway Sushi.
The host and the servers already recognize us. We always come here for the Late Night AYCE. It's good value. The beef teriyaki is good, the chicken teriyaki is even better because of it's crispy skin. Love the deep fried scallop and the sauce. I also always get the BBQ beef short ribs. The miso soup is also good.
I will go back soon.
I've been here a few times and its the usual AYCE experience, maybe because the same guy owns Richmond Sushi, TopGun Sushi, and probably some others! Last time I went there was with a party of 10, the service was quick and they didn't rip us off on the amount ordered like most places do. They could probably tell that we weren't wasting anything so they gave us the right amount. Nothing major to complain about....except maybe the sticky washroom floors.
I have been to this restaurant several time(about March), I feel pretty good, but the last time I felt disappointed because the quality of food decreased, Prawn tempura was cold, miso soup is too salty, the rice for the sushi was too sticky. i hope you can get better,otherwise you'll lost alot of customers!!
Having just bought a restaurant group membership which included Kingsway Sushi, my companion and I decided to try it for lunch. The menu read "all-you-can-eat". As it was our first time, we ordered modestly. The portions were sample size. The food quality was average.
During the second helping, the server prevented me from ordering further citing that I didn't finish the sushi rice. I informed her that I can't eat white rice (causes bloating). My companion ordered without interruption, while I ended up retracting my next order. When our food came the second time, we noticed several servers glancing over our shoulders to ensure everything was eaten!
I finished lunch feeling uncomfortable and unsatiated. The amount of rice left unfinished was about 4 pieces, totaling approx. 10 cents, while our bill of $25 MORE than compensated for the leftovers!
Overall, a dissatifactory experience.
My friend and I (group of 9) dined here last night and got the limited menu (about $20 per person before tax/tip), and although we had to wait despite our 7pm reservations we were pleasantly surprised once we got to our table. The service was so quick and efficient that the food started arriving before we had even finished ordering (the servers use PDAs). The server was always present when we needed something (a rarety in some AYCE restaurants) and the food arrived perfectly cooked and tasty. I have eaten in a lot of sushi restaurants in Vancouver and now prefer a la carte usually due to the lower quality of AYCE. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the limited menu which included deep fried scallops, beef/salmon/tuna/hokkigai sashimi (unlimited), edamame, perfect, succulent, non-chewy short ribs, and perfect oyster motiyaki. You also get pretty good mango pudding for dessert (tapioca pudding is available with the deluxe menu). I can't wait to try to deluxe menue next time.
The ambience was nice for such a big restaurant and there is free parking. The restaurant seemed clean, and the decor seemed pretty new. Great for a small or big group.
Many people on here do enjoy eating at Kingsway Sushi. I used to like it too the very first time I went there because of the variety of all different sashimis, rolls, robata, etc. Except on my second visit there, I was with my friend. We were about to eat raw oysters. Just about when he was about to put the oyster into his mouth i saw a really thin PINK WORM crawling around on the shell.
We told the waitress and she ran away to tell her manager, he then came over to take the plate away and asked if we wanted another plate. We obviously didnt take it as we were disgusted. Throughout the rest of our dinner we were inspecting all of our food.
My friend went back another time because his friends wanted to go there, AGAIN, they saw the pink worms crawling around. We will never go back.
I guess if you are eating the cooked foods it will be fine...but around $30 to just eat the cooked foods? In my opinion is not worth it.
Just a heads up to those who go for the raw foods, double check if theres any bugs/eggs stuck on to your food!
So when I was told by the host the all you can eat was like $13. something.. I was like, sure why not? That's cheap. Then I noticed it didn't have much on the menu at all!.. And the portions were amazingly small (like the gyoza came with only 2 pieces.. & no sauce for it) Tempura only came in yam or vegetables.. (no prawns). Those little things made it seems so cheap. So we order.. & less then a minute the food came. LITERALLY! I was like.. omg SOMETHING has to be wrong. This food must have been sitting out for ages. & it definitly tasted like it. First bite of sushi... tasted rubbery & old. It was gross. & that was pretty consistent with all the sushi. Tempura was cold, & the gyoza tasted stale.. like it was reheated. Even the wassabe looked nasty. It was really dark & the consistency seemed like it was sitting there for a really long time. No ginger in sight. I had a bite of the spicy tuna roll.. it was SO nasty I spit it into a napkin & ran to the bathroom.. NO KIDDING. & I've NEVER done that in my life at a restaurant! (In France.. I ate raw clams & I did NOT like the taste but I still swallowed). All in all it was the WORST sushi I've ever had!
Decided to go here the other week with a couple of friends for AYCE (but not late night). Had to wait a while for a table but we didn't have a reservation so that's OK.
The ambiance is fairly nice except the benches extend underneath the partitions so my girlfriend had to worry about her purse. We had a very distracted waiter who missed about five of our orders, and one of the servers nearly spilled a dish on me and barely even apologized ("Oops," said in the most disinterested voice you could imagine).
The sashimi was decent but we were given very small portions,which is stupid since it's AYCE anyways -- why hassle the customer by making him send in a second order? The rolls were dry. The deep-fried wontons were pathetic creatures -- soggy and with half a teaspoon of filling, if that. Remarkably, I had a gyoza explode on me (!!!) as it seemed to have sucked up all of the normal gyoza liquid. Never had that happen before!
Wouldn't recommend this place, especially not for full-price AYCE dinner. It's probably OK for late night if you're in the area, but there are better places.
I drove by the other day late at night thinking to order some takeout. Went in and looked at the menu, there were 3 different ayce ones, and the place smelt like pinesol.
Proceeded to order a few things, and when I went to pay I noticed some premade rolls sitting open in the back. In the back of my mind I knew something would be wrong, but I wanted to give the place the beneit of the doubt. I waited only about 10 minutes for it.
When I got home, it was obvious that the quality of the sushi was very low.
Their deepfried salmon roll had obviously been sitting out already deepfried for a while because it was cold and soggy.
The ika karaage and tempura were also soggy as the batter was not typical and extremely greasy.
All of the rolls we got were not made fresh, it was obvious they were pulled from the premade counter, and a huge disappointment as we did not pay buffet prices for buffet quality crap.
The WORST california roll I have ever had as the filling had the consistency of paste, as if the chef prechewed it and rolled it up with avocado.
EVERYTHING was thrown out.....
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone for buffet or takeout, and I will never go back.
Tonight, I decided to give Kingsway Sushi an attempt to satisfy the sushi craving. It's not the first time I've been there. I've tried all of their menus before, and all of my experiences have been so-so. My companion and I waited until 9:30pm for their late-night AYCE menu.
It was one of those tiny tables for two, and you have to squeeze pass between the table and the next to get to the inside seat. Upon squeezing through, I stepped on mango pudding that had fallen onto the floor and failed to be cleaned up. Disgusting. The seat cushions were horrid as well with apparent stains all over.
I find that their food is gradually getting worse with each visit. I could not even touch the BBQ corn, it tasted so stale and old, nor could I finish the deep fried smelt. The batter tasted like uncooked flour. A lot of their dishes are just drenched with teriyaki sauce.
The servers brought food to our table with so much dread, without so much uttering a word. Would it kill them to state what is being served or even portray a slight smile?
That was my last visit to Kingsway Sushi.
I was supposed to take my family to The Keg for Xmas eve, but the wait was waaaaay toO long! We moved to Earls, then Cactus, then Boston Pizza and they were all closed (Christmas Eve lol). We ended up trying Kingsway Sushi and suprisingly it was quite good. We went for the AYCE regular dinner menu. The salmon and tuna sashimi was GREAT.
I've eaten A LOT of typical AYCEs at other places and it was very good comparable to... say BC SUSHI? and possibly Tomokazu? You can't expect that much. The service wasn't that great, but who would want to work on xmas eve? Our waitress was pretty nice but it was really busy so I wouldn't blame them. Overall the food was very good, fresh, and nothing was totally gross. Our family of 8 enjoyed it!!!
I guess it depends, sounds like from the other reviews, the kitchen might not be consistent? but that night when we went, the food was tasty and fresh!
Kingsway sushi is a fairly new Restaurant only open for about a month now. Since then i've been there at least 6 times all for dinner. as with MOST AYCE restaurants SASHIMI is most likely not served at lunch. DINNER TIME yes sashimi is available. Every time i've gone the service has been terrific. The waiter's / waitresses constantly come by and aske to remove any dish that looks finished. Tea is always refilled . Most of the staff IMO know what they are talking about, you may get one new person that has a bit of bad english and doesnt understand much. There was this one girl that delivered food, if u asked her she kinda seemed confused but everybody else i've seen knew what they were talking about.
Sashimi quality is pretty good for ayce, same with all the other items. I used to like Richmond sushi but they've gone downhill.. too busy and seem to be cutting corners to keep up with demand. Although i believe these two restaurants are part of the same "group" since Kingsway is fairly new they seem so far to be putting up a good food forward.
Their Oyster Motoyaki is not CURRY as a previous post might of indicated. that must of been the waitress giving a wrong order. There is a Oyster Motoyaki which is.. OYSTER and there is a SEAFOOD motoyaki which has curry in it.. similar to a chinese beef curry bun if u've ever had one except its with seafood.
Overall solid rating and the 6 times i've been there service for me has allways been Outstanding.
