Kaneda Japanese Restaurant offers an a la carte menu of Japanese appetizers, soups, noodles, sushi, sashimi and more as well as an All You Can Eat option for lunch and dinner.
Saw this place when i googled late night sushi in Vancouver, saw a few good reviews, figured to give it a go.
Servers and manager look familiar, either from Toyama,or fish on rice leftovers. Had the late night menu, would have rather had the full dinner menu, but not available.
So,this is the worst part. Maximum THREE pieces of small sashimi per person. Three!!! what the hell??Thats unheard of! And of course,no mention of this on the menu anywhere.
First round of ordering resulted in half the requested items coming out. When I asked if there was anymore coming, waiter said, uhhh I will check, then took a personal phonecall. Guess he called the kitchen to check.
Nope, was his answer. So,ordered the beef and chicken teriyaki again.
Beef teriyaki tasted like a mix of ground beef and beef pieces, and not good. Chicken was typical thigh pieces.
Ton Katsu tiny. The motoyakis were all mayo,no seafood.
It was gross. You figure the new place in the area would step it up,seeing as tomokazu and BC sushi are right down the street.
I wish I did.
The servers were scarce, and of course, popping back to the table just in time for last call at the kitchen.
Never again will I return here.
I came across the other day that Fish On Rice On Broadway was no longer there. I decided to go with my girlfriend to try this new place called Kaneda out. When we walked in the front door i already knew that this place has gone through a major overhaul compare to Fish On Rice. The front entrance was nicely decorated with a very nice drop as you are heading up the stairs. As i went into the upstairs entrance, i was definately walking into a brand new restaurant. The entrance area is so much more spacious compare to before.
As we walked in, all the staff greeted us will a loud welcome in Japanese. I was pleasantly surprised. I felt alot of energy from all the staff. We were taken to our table by one of the staff. He was really friendly. He looked very familiar, probably from another japanese restaurant that we use to go to.
We decide to have the Dinner All You Can Eat menu. We placed our order in and within 5 min the appetizers came. Before we even finished the appetizers. All the other food that we order started to arrive. The portions and the presentation was really nice. It looked like they took their time in making sure everything was presentable. Many other all you can eat places usually do not care because there are sauce sliding out from the side of the plate.
The staff would come by once and awhile to see how we were doing. Many other places usually hardly come over or they come over too often. It can be quite annoying to handle when you are trying to have a conversation with your party. The food overall was really good. My favourite was the short ribs. They were marinated really well which was really tasty.
Definately will be going back to their another time.
