Jupiter Cafe is a large upstairs space with a patio and DJs nightly.
Not the easiest place to find off of Davie street - perhaps that's why it was so dead quiet on a Friday evening on a summer day! But tons of seating! We had about 12 people after work and can't go wrong here - massive patio and decent pub grub. The guys were happy with the beer and us gals enjoyed the coconut crusted prawns, yam fries, nachos, wings, & pizza. The service is kinda slow, but it's not bad if you are just chilling for after work drinks. Worth going back!
Went here for a friend's birthday on a Friday night. Fairly crowded and service was geologically slow... We thought the Second Coming might arrive before our food...
Music was good, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the drinks were way too small, the food was very salty, and the service was horrific. I have to give the waitron kudos, though, for allowing us to split our order into separate bills on the computer, even though it was a nightmare for her (because, of course, someone always forgets to include something and we have to double-check and make sure the host paid for the nachos... (grin)).
It seems like there is a better selection of places in that area if you're hungry in a hurry. But hearing some decent Fila Brazilia almost made up for it...
This was my first time here, but my boyfriend has been many times. We were there at about 6pm on a Friday, just to grab quick bite before the Canucks game. We were the only ones in there. Service was excrutiatingy slow...and yes, we were thee only ones in there.
We ordered Nachos & Yam fries. The yam fries were the best I've had yet...and the garlic mayo that comes with it....oh so good! The nachos on the other hand, I think I counted about 4 shreds of cheese. Very bland, very boring. We got one handful of olives and onions and that's about that. We had to rely on the salsa & sourcream to boost the flavor a bit.
Overall, okay.
The only thing that makes me mad is that the service at this restaurant is SO slow! Even when there are only a bit of people, with 4 waitresses it takes FOREVER to get something done or for them to even come around.
Food is alright.
I dined here on a Saturday night with a group of 9 people. We had an awesome time. We ordered a bunch of appies. Nachos as others have said have NO cheese on them but the other appies we had were great yam fries - were the best I have ever had, mussells were awesome, wings were really good - Large portions too. I didn't really find the Martini list very good as everything had sourpuss in it which I'm not a huge fan of. The service was excellent. We had a blonde female server (wish I would have caught her name) as she went above and beyond and was very friendly which is hard to find these days. It was latin night and DJ Chachete was spinning. The music was really good and got us all out on the dancefloor. Our whole group had an awesome time and we will be back. Thanks Jupiter !
I went with a party of 8 on a Saturday night. We all enjoyed the ambiance and music. The place is really busy and it had a good vibe to it. But our martinis and mixed drinks were very weak. Our group stuck to beer and wine after 4 or 5 weak martinis. The service was a bit slow but I assume its because there was a large group of 30 or so. The food was also pretty bad. We orderd a few standard appies. Nachos and yam fries. The nachos barely had any cheese (a pet peeve of mine!) and for $13-14 there should be a bit more! and the yam fries tasted like the mini donuts at the PNE. They where covered in a cinnamon, sugar mixture. Odd. Overall the place is good for bottled drinks and the music!
go for the beer and the dj's. it is not so much a cafe as it is a nightclub. michael envy and dj uncle johnny r so hot i want to have some babys. it's kinda' gay though. only ever try the calamari - best in the west. rings rock!!! p-s- where my bill after waiting like 20 minutes?
