A great new place downtown

For our first time visit we were suitably impressed. This is a great new casual restaurant downtown for those bored of the same old places. The lounge was great. The music was awesome and the service was good too. We really enjoyed the food and loved the attention to detail. The ambiance was nice and I liked their selection of cocktails which were slightly different from what you would usually get in this type of restaurant. The california roll tacos and short rib were outstanding and the desserts were also really yummy.
I would definitely recommend this place for a relaxed unpretentious atmosphere with good food and drinks for a relatively good price.

Vancouver has this going for it

Visiting friends in Vancouver last week and have to say that at least Vancouver has one thing going for it and that is a good chain of restaurants with the full package. First the food was good. Nothing too spicy or weird. Good steak, good fish and reasonable portions. The scotch was not too expensive. The restaurant was my friend's suggestion and we were skeptical because these chains have odd food on occasion but not here. The decoration was modern but clean. The waitress were salt of the earth. Wow do we need some of these in Calgary. The short black dresses make me feel like I am having a good time. Good food, good scotch and good waitstaff. We will return next year for sure.

Love to go here

Their drinks menu is a good read. Cracks me up every time.

I've been to the other "Joey" and this one is great too.

I like to call these restaurants LBDs (Little Black Dress) because the servers are always in black dresses/short skirts. And this is why I come and this is why I tip more. My (female) ex-coworkers gets a kick out of it. I just like the friendly faces and eye candy. Anyway, I'd feel bad for the loser that ends up buying drinks here.... kinda steep... unless the winner ends up liking the daily special.

FYI, Bellinis are special. Mmmmm!

Good food, not great service

Three of us decided to try Joey's on Burrard this evening for dinner. We arrived at 6:00 PM and the restaurant looked really busy. The hostess let us know there was a wait of 25 minutes. I thought that was probably and over estimate, so we decided to wait. Less than 5 minutes later we were seated in the "wine bar" portion of the restaurant. The host seemed a little confused as we were brought to a table for two when there were three in our party. Lucky for us a table just needed to be cleaned in order for us to be sat at a nice booth. The lighting is very dark and the music super loud (rock, heavy guitar type music). I could hear people shouting at each other from different tables because they needed to talk over the music.

We waited quite a few minutes before we were presented with food menus and then immediately were asked for our drink order. As I had looked at a drink menu during our brief wait in the lobby I knew I wanted a specific drink. When I forgot the name, I mentioned it had lemon in the title. Our very young, very immature server scoffed and said that she couldn't possibly know which one I was talking about and just stared at me (didn't offer to get a drink menu or anything). It finally came to me and off she went. I was disapointed to look around and see the server clones from Cactus Club and Earl's. Short skirts, high heels and low cut shirts everywhere. I'm not sure why restaurants think that a good looking person automatically makes for a good server...does knowledge and personality count for nothing?

Anyway, dinner was the absolute highlight for me. I had the delicious salmon salad which is a throw back to classic French nicoise and was awesome, but a tiny bit over dressed. My friends had another salad, the sliders and wings which they said were also good. For dessert we shared a chocolate souffle which was to die for. We enquired about the price of lattes and received another scoff from our server who at this point was not winning any brownie points.

Despite our server, we had a great evening with good food. I would suggest this restaurant to people wanting to be a part of a lively, loud dining experience, not wanting intimate conversation.

Arrived with 6 people for lunch on a weekday, reservations made only that morning. Wine tasting and appies at the hostess desk. Nice touch! Seated promptly and the service was great. Nice waiter, attentive but not annoying. The sliders were delicious and the specially brewed beer was great. All the other selections at our table, from wraps and salad, to quesadilla and tuna burger looked good and were given raves by the parties who ordered and ate them. It was a fun lunch with good food. What more could you want?

Yeah, I know. What was I expecting? A little more, I guess.

5 of us dined this evening. We were first told by the hostess that it would be quite a wait, but she couldn't tell us how long. We decided to wait a few minutes and see what happend. We were seated immediately. Strange.

Got a great booth. Very comfy. We ordered a few things to share. We had ahi tacos, lettuce wrap and dumplings. All were OK.

I ordered the lobster grilled cheese. This was grilled cheese period. Grilled cheese for $15. Silly me. It actually came 10 minutes after everyone else's food. I got no apology or explanation. I guess our server felt silly because she had already forgotten a few thinngs. I am pretty easy when it comes to sevice, but this kinda annoyed me.

I guess the formula works. Young sexy girls + average food + alcohol = profit. They did seem to have a well thought out wine system. I will give them some credit.

Save your tips girls.

Great Upscale Generic Joint with a twist!

We've been going to Joey's on Broadway or Burrard for a while, and have had great times, with excellent food and drink!

My reason for writing this review is to acknowledge a situation.

I had a very rude employee pickup the phone when I called in one night, I asked to speak with a manager and was hung up on after about 10 minutes more conversation.

The manager of the restaurant couldn't have handled the situation better. Everyone has flaws and its difficult to run a restaurant, but I think that taking charge of a sutation and making sure the patron is happy is the most important thing. Joey's couldn't have done a better job!

Lunch at Joey's

I met some out of town friends (Oz and England) here for lunch last Wednesday. I suggested Joey's as they were staying at the Sutton Place across the road and would not have trouble finding it. I've been here a few times in the past after work but this was my first lunchtime visit. I was really very impressed as were my guests. It was a lovely spot to have a quiet chat, the service was spot on but unintrusive and the food was very nice. (I'd only a salad but the others chose more substantial fare and all enjoyed). I would not hesitate to recommend this as a solid lunchtime dining choice.

Very Suprised For a Late Lunch
By Kam of vancouver (11 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, June 1, 2010 - 5:58pm [Dine in]

Went there for a late lunch around 3 o clock today. was very surprised the waitresses are very friendly and very pretty, service was excellent. They also came to the table for a quality check of the food, i thought this palce was overrated, but the food was the decent. Our waitress was very nice, we all had entrees no appies. i ordered the ahi tuna burger or sandwich, which was with onion rings and a tomato kind of relish. it was very tasty and a very large portion, i would say one of the best sandwiches i have ever eaten in any other restaurants. example milestones, earls, cactus etc, i would say this is one of the best chains, I'm pretty sure this is the highest of quality of chain related food. Also my friends had the chicken club and Alfredo all looked good, except the alfredo looked a little small, but all pasta's in restaurants are pretty small plate size. All in all a good dining experience if your looking for something fast good and upscale come to joeys.

Where Oh Where Has the Good Joey's Gone?
By bunni of Burnaby (16 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - 12:26am [Dine in]

Was a big fan of this particular Joey's in October '08 when my friend recommended the location. At that time, I was particularly impressed...wish I could say the same this time around!

Food: I ordered the Butter Chicken. It was okay, flavourful, lively and refreshing. I tried my friend's pasta, however, and thought it was the most disgusting thing. EVER. I don't know what I felt worse for: my friend who was eating the pasta, or the pasta itself for being cooked in that atrocious blend of herbs! Mango mocktail was better than the first time I went there...there was actually some flavour to it for once!

Service: ARGH! It was bad! Those stupid doors are pretty heavy, and no one even bothered to open them for us! The hostess came running but was too late - we were already inside. To make matters worse, as soon as she asked us how many of us needed to be seated, she went back to talking to another staff member. NOT impressive. It wasn't even made clear to us who our server was. I had to spend five minutes trying to flag someone down for a drink....oh gosh. And don't get me started on the way the bill was presented to us. It wasn't placed in a folder, so when she put it down on the table, she put it on a wet area....we asked for another copy, and she said she didn't have time to print out a new one. GEEZE! Then at least TELL us what we owe your stupid restaurant so we can pay the bill and get the heck out of here!

Value: Yeah, I wouldn't pay a penny over what I paid that day. I didn't even tip our waitress 5% because of her standoffish attitude and inability to serve WELL.

Ambiance: Still lovely. Nothing special, but it was clean and clutter-free. At least I didn't trip over anything.

I'd go back if the staff weren't so wrapped up in themselves and they used WAY less garlic than they did. Bah!

Great Decor, Poor Food

4 of us went for dinner, 3 of them cancelled their main course! We have wings, satay and lettuce wrap as appetizer. The lettuce wrap is so salty but we still can eat with with lettuce wrapped. 3 of them ordered chicken and cant eat at all becos it was too salty. The manager came over (without a smile) and asked if we having any problem with the food. We told her the chicken was too salty. She never apologized and talked to us in a way that just like we are wrong to express our concern.

The interior is very well decorated. but u just cant go there for food.

hmmm where are my pecans?

went here with my bf few weeks ago for nice dinner. im huge fan of evil jungle salad but they didnt have it at this location. So i ordered ahi tuna taco and beach salad. the food was amazing i have to say. ahi tuna on crusty shell just melt in your mouth but omg was it ever so messy to it them. It was not something you can eat without making so much of mess of your hand and mouth. as for my salad, it was good except they missed entire 1 ingredient of salad, pecans. I don't know what the chef in the kitchen was thinking but there were none. i wanted to ask my waitress except she was no where to be found. I waited for "someone" to come by so I could show them there none to begin. The manager happen to walk by and I asked her why pecans are missing from my salad. She was quick enough to go and get some from the kitchen but even by this point, my waitress was no where to be found.

I totally recommend you try some other joey's restaurant for their meals. This place is just too busy and noisy for some people to have nice dinner.

Such a great atmosphere. The food and the service are always very good. I was here with friends for drinks and food so I can speak much about the menu, and Joey's offers a great range of dishes. but it is the Joey's ladies that bring us in every time. Highly recommended if you're looking for a place to hang out for a little while and have good food and drinks.

Definitely worth the trek, this place has great food! Super busy, and somewhat small for the popularity, so don't expect a table during the dinner rush, at least not without a wait, on a weekend. We ordered steak and wines for dinner, and were not at all disappointed! Not only is the meat perfectly marinated and oiled, but it has so much flavour with a bit of heat, unlike most steaks where you only taste the grease. The waitress was bombastic blonde and a dream but so is my girlfriend har har.

Our party consisted of 7 people with five arriving at 9 pm and the other 2, 45 minutes later. We were received and asked to wait while a table for seven could be readied.
Sorry, I didn't mention that we were walk-ins without reservations.
We were informed within 5 minutes what type of table was being set for us and if it was acceptable. Very nice !
In about 10 minutes from entry, we were seated at a table that while next to the washrooms, was quite comfortable.
The person who arranged the supper had eaten there on many occassions and always enjoyed the food. Six of the party had never been there before.
Service- MJ was our server, he turned out to be talented in making us feel at ease, He also gave sterling service, never intrusive but attentive and observant of our needs.
Food, I will speak only of my choice, I order the Rotissiere Chicken, others, after looking at the presentation were a touch envious. It was served in the normal oversized deep plate and looked very appetitiizing. Taste made this dish levitate above the others, chicken-moist and delicate, green beans good [not exactly my favourite, but that's me], mashed potatoes and gravy?
Well them there potatoes and gravy just flooded my taste buds with a craving that has been missing for years, years. I am very satisfied and intend to return to test the other menu items.
Did I mention the Appies, no, what am I thinking? We had three appies, Lettuce Wrap. Satay Mix and Calamari. The best!
The lettuce wrap was veggie and so tasty that I contemplated ordering another one for myself, what a refreshingly palate- pleasing freshness.
Total bill with 2 bottles of good wine and 4 coffee, just under $35 each. Not one person had a word of complaint with their meals or service. All were talking of making Joeys their downtown spot.
Ed says thanks for the best experience in dining that I've had for years. Hats off for Joeys, Burrard Street.

The Beach Salad. Love it!
My husband and I have gone here 4-5 times since we moved Downtown. We always know that we're going to get great service and the food is going to be awesome. My husband either gets the steak or a burger and loves it everytime. Their crispy potatoes are to die for. I always get The Beach Salad. Love love love it.
Calamari is great too. Can't go wrong if you looking for a nice dinner on the weekdays after work.
