Joey's Broadway combines home-style Mediterranean cuisine with new and exotic tastes from the Orient.
Great atmosphere is apparent as soon as you enter the place. Service was pretty good as well. Food is a little pricey for what you're getting, however I ordered the fish tacos and they were superb. Their tables are bolted to the ground so it may be a bit awkward for larger groups. Note that groups of 8 or larger get 18% gratuity automatically added to their bill.
First, we made a reservation three days in advance. We called earlier on the day to confirm and were told everything was fine. When our party showed up at 7PM, we were told the reservation was never written down.
We were then told that we were being bumped to the front of the line to compensate, however our party was of 7 people so they had to wait until 2 tables beside each other opened up.
The tables were near each other and bolted down so we could not move them, which made for awkward conversation and was not pleasant, the restaurant only has one table that can accommodate groups over 5.
They did offer us some complimentary appetizers though. Some calamari and some chicken, but nobody could tell which was which and 2 people are vegetarians.
The mushroom soup was cold.
The steak was cold on the inside.
The crab legs were not properly prepared and difficult to eat.
The pesto was overcooked and had no flavour.
The ginger beef was lacking ginger and spiced with chili instead.
The lettuce in the salad was limp.
The mashed potatoes were cold.
The wine was far too expensive. A glass of Cabernet was $10 and it tasted like it came from an old $11 bottle.
The cocktails were very watery.
The maple salmon was excellent, as were the fish tacos.
The service was slow, but the server was nice.
We will not be returning.
I will definetely go back, the staff was sexy yet not stuck up, which was very surprising. The bar has a cozy feel and was very relaxing. Great place to spend any evening of the week. They serve only the finest wines and martini's, at reasonable prices compared to other lounges in Vancouver. The waitress was courteous, fast and very good looking and confident in herself. The food is canadian and Italian so you don't have to full up on pasta if you don't want to. This place can give Cactus Club a run for its money with such service.
Went to the old Joey Tomatos when it was on Cambie and 14th when it was still there. It was a much different restaurant back then.
Now, it is a more hip, young, energetic type of restaurant, much like Milestones or Cactus Club type of restaurant.
Had the seared ahi tuna on tacos appy, then the 9 oz cap steak and my dinner companion had the spicy seafood linguini.
Overall, very good food, excellent tasting steak, and new tastes in the linguini.
We were in a large party of 15, so and the service was very good, considering it was one waiter for all of us and he got the food out to us on time and in an orderly fashion. None of us were really paying attention to him when he asked us for our choices, and he was very patient.
Bill came out to $71, including two drinks. Tipping was a mandatory 18% which i thought was kinda high, but considering we were a party of 15, it might not be that unusual, but 15% would seem more the norm, I think.
Food: The food is always hot, fresh and really good. The drinks are also yummy.
Service: The waitresses and waiters are always good looking and polished. At every location, the food takes a while to arrive at your table. The washrooms are two leveled and so cool!
Ambiance: I've always loved the ambiance of Joey's restaurants. It is sophisticated and modern.
*** Overall, I recommend Joey's on Broadway first before you go to any other locations. They offer a memorable dining experience.
seriously, being here is pretty much like being at Earl's. Same menu, same decor, same tarted up girls. They even serve the same super skinny fries from McCain's.
I will say that the fish tacos and the bathrooms are outstanding. It's close to work, so I will probably be back, but not with a large group and not when I have a limited amount of time.
The ambience is really nice, but $20 for 4 tiny pieces of chicken in your Butter Chicken dish is a rip-off. The waitress talked too much as well, she came off as trying too hard. The best part of the restaurant would have to be the washrooms, it looked like an apartment in there.
Very poor service.
When it's not busy at all and it's mostly empty, takes nearly 5 minutes to be seated.
Main problem is with slow & incompetent service inside, however.
I ordered Chicken Alfredo, but in the dish that I got - not a single piece of chicken to be seen. On the bill I was still billed for Chicken Alfredo, vs. the lower cost "chickenless" Alfredo that I actually got.
No refills on ice tea. While we our food out, our ice tea glasses sat empty, until half an hour later when we ordered dessert we had to ask for refills, as obviously the server wasn't going to do that obvious thing on her own.
Worst of all is the snail-paced service. About half of the time, the server was sitting down at one nearby table, chatting endlessly with the people there, while we
and other of her customers' tables had to wait impatiently. During one of her multiple
(each lasting some 3-10 minutes) sit-down chat-sessions at this table, another waiter
came by and asked her to get up and do her job, but from what we could ascertain from
reading lips and the body language, she refused, and continued the endless chat-
session and ignoring her customers for a good few more minutes.
It took us nearly 30 minutes from when we asked to order dessert to simply place that
order, as for some 10 minutes at that time the server was sitting at the other table
chatting endlessly, and at other times passed and totally ignored us multiple times,
though we made eye contact and motions to ask her to come over and take the order.
When we got the bill (after we had to ask for it to be corrected due to over billing) and the credit card slip, the pen given with that was out of ink.
While the food is adequate (though the potatoes with the steak taste suspiciously like plastic), the service at Joey's is absolutely the worst out there in Vancouver - not even at a busy time. Poor if any hiring and internal quality controls.
Went there for a birthday. The waitress and manager were incredibly rude to our entire table when we asked for a couple of chairs so that everyone in our party would have a place to seat. The service was slow, the waitress was obnoxious and while the food wasn't bad I'll never be tempted to go there again. It was the first time in my life that I had not left a tip at a restraunt. Save yourself some annoyance and eat anywhere else. You can always return terrible food, but you can't return the waitstaff.
Overall, Joeys in my opinion is an Uscale Earls with Hot hot hot hostesses. Food was creative and tasty. Service could;ve been better. Ahi Tuna was comparable to a 5 star restaurant. Overall a great casual hang out with good food and attractive servers !
Had dinner with a few friends -- it was ok, nothing special. We had to wait for a table for over 30 min. and when we sat at the bar, it took our waitress 15 minutes to come to us. This place is ridiculous, they don't take reservations!!! I called to make a reservation for dinner for Sat night for a party of 6 -- its a first come first serve type place! I will definitely not come back there because of that. Who has the time to go and wait for a table? I would rather go to a place that takes reservations.
I had to try this place out after hearing so much about it, and I left quite satisfied. I was amazed at the place itself, the decor was wonderful and it was a great place to dine. I felt like I was eating in a fine dining establishment. Service was pretty good, the waitress was constantly wearing a smile. The most important part, the food, was quite enjoyable as well. I had a chicken souvlaki pita w/ a side salad and both were delectable. I was most impressed by the good quality of the salad greens, not a single bad leaf to be found. My friends also enjoyed their dishes as well, which were a ahi tuna salad, a club med sandwich and a beef dip. The food, service, and the wonderful look of this place makes dining here a pleasurable experience.
First time went to lunch at Joey's on broadway, the service was horrible and slow when the place was not even busy at time around 2:00pm. It is a nice place to dine, but I think they will have to do something about the service to bring people back because I heard a lot people had been there, but dislike the service there, so if you don't care about the service that much you will like it there.
i'm a little surprised with all the comments on the service! maybe it's sort of hit or miss depending on when you go or who happens to be on staff. The door was opened for us and we were greeted BEFORE we even stepped into the restaurant! That really impressed me. We were taken to our table right away - i must say the the benches are really comfortable and i love the design of the whole place, especially the look of the open kitchen that's a flight above the diningroom. Our server was really friendly, accomodating, and timely (although when i told her i was thinking of dessert at the end, it took her 10 min to bring the dessert menu). The food was descent, though i have to say they could've been more generous with the lobster ravioli as i counted and there were only 10 pieces for $17, and you couldn't really taste any lobster in it. The maple glazed salmon was alright, but i guess i prefer a more savory taste - the risotto that came with it was pretty good. the fries w/ blue cheese was yum, as was the crab&artichoke dip. For dessert we had the apple pie w/ maple ice cream, and newyork chscake with passionfruit sauce, which was also great! OH AND I CAN"T SAY ENOUGH OF THEIR WASHROOMS! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME INTERIOR DESIGN!
From the moment you walk in... you're amazed by the beautiful decor and okay while it might sound trivial, the 2 level bathroom with floor to ceiling mirrors is nothing short of stunning. I love the ambiance here and they have done an amazing job creating a really upscale feel for this restaurant. The food was very good and the service was ok (but I'll let it go as everything else was amazing). This place is definitely a step above the Earls, Cactus Club restaurants.
Great place to go for drinks. Guaranteed it will be busy, lively atmosphere, the patio is nice and the lounge area is sleek and trendy.
Food is not so good. Had the salmon salad, the potatoes and salmon were super greasy and just didnt seem fresh. Dont have many vegetarian dishes that are healthy.
My boss decided to bring me here once with our coworkers from Europe and I was blown away. This is a true fusion chain restaurant in the city.
The way that they present the fusion food and prepare it is amazing.
I brought my ex-GF and her friend that is from out of town here to celebrate her Birthday and had a great experience. They explain every food on the menu, seafood and wine to you in detail and will spend the time it takes to recommend wine to go with it. The staff are probably foreign (Russian?) imports. wow.
This is not only a meal but a great experience
Always good, attentive service - and yes the gorgeous waitstaff is hired for attraction plus their waiting-talents. They should be proud of themselves then. The food is really decent, considering you're really going there for the atmosphere and location. I really loved their mushroom cheeseburger which was custom. The fries are skinny and sometimes hot, sometimes not. Ask for more ketchup if you're a ketchup fan because they give you a little tiny cup of ketchup instead of a bottle. The alcoholic beverages are strong and yummy. grilled cheese really good too, but not very filling. Great place for a group celebreation. I am into skinny beautiful women so.
We were in town for only a couple of days and ate out several times. This Joey Tomatos was recommended to us not only for its proximity to our hotel but also because we were assured pleasant and beautiful servers are guaranteed. Unfortunately our experience fell short in that regard. First, the food. The food was good with dishes delivering somewhat on the zestiness and tastiness. So many restaurants cook bland food nowadays. Not here. The ambience was mdoern and clean. Clearly, a professional outfit. The waitresses weren't out of the ball park however. The reported cute short dresses were not making an appearance today. Perhaps because it was getting colder and raining (and we were nt using a patio as a result). Either way, very disappointed in this regard. So, it was good but not that good that I would recommend or absolutely return.
One of my favourites. Every time we've been there, it's been a great experience. Wonderful food and service. But it is the Joey ladies that grab my attention. Those legs.. oh the food is great I mean. It is in fact good and cheap and the service is good. have the cajun (I think) cheeseburger and appy with prawns. Recommended!
