Joey's Broadway combines home-style Mediterranean cuisine with new and exotic tastes from the Orient.
I liked this place - I went there for lunch and it wasn't busy. The two of us liked our food - my husband had the chicken quesadilla and I had a Thai prawn bowl that was really tasty. The server was good, I mean, pretty similar to what you would get at Earls, or Cactus Club...only she wasn't as "i'm all that" as some of them seem to be. She brought us a tomato salad to start for free, saying that it was a new dish the chef wanted feedback on.
My only complaint is a few weeks ago we wanted to go there on a Sunday night and called for a party of 6 to make a reservation. They don't take reservations, and by the time we got there it was full and we had to go somewhere else. But I will definitely come back again.
I have been here on many occasions and dine here mostly for dinner. The food is pretty decent as I usually do order the New York Steak for nearly $30. Seems that it used to be better when it first opened like a year and a half ago. The food has kind of slipped since then. The service is actually quite well. The have valet parking available and nice hosts that greet you when you enter. They inform you how long the wait is and you have a choice of either being seated in dining room or the lounge. Either is great. Value wise the food here is kinda pricy. It certainly isn't for people on a budget. I would rate this moderately pricy as it won't break the bank but for the price won't attact a lot of people here either in the economy these days. Ambiance is probably the best of all as it reminds me of hotel dining with dim lights and a semi viewable kitchen. Quite contempary.
The decor is beautiful, the service is excellent. My BF had the ribs and the deep fried mashed (!) - enough calories for a week - which he said were delicious. I had the Satay appetizer for a meal and it was more than enough and very tasty. With daily drink specials and booths I would definitely go back with friends.
Another restaurant added on the Broadway and Granville strip. Nice looking restaurant with its outside 2nd floor cabana. My favourites are the Baja fish tacos and the Evil Jungle Noodle Salad, very tasty! The deserts are also to die for...the Lava cake... Always a good place to go!
I'm from Edmonton and I always loved Joey's. I went to the one on Broadway many times. The first time I went, the service was great, & the food was awesome... everything was good until the bill came. I was fine with what they billed, but the server was clueless. I think the bill was something like 37.?? Anyway, he came back with change and it was a $10.00 and some other change. So, my question is, do you think you deserve a $10.00 tip? CLUE IN BUDDY, when people pay with the cash they give you, they expect some smaller change to tip you. Needless to say I didn't tip much because he was stupid. I shouldn't have to ask for smaller bills to tip. The next time I went, the service was mediocre. My food was cold and the server wasn't very attentive, i had to grab another server to get me something. I ordered a long island iced-t and as i recall, it was always slushy like a marg. Anyway, I got my long island and i was billed 8.95 versus the normanl 5.50 or whatever for the drink. I asked the server, and she tells me, "Oh, that's just the way it is." It was NOT a double oz. drink or anything special. Anyway... I'm just so annoyed of STUPIDITY of servers. They think they deserve this wicked tip from a 70.00 bill, but did NOTHING of great service to deserve their hopeful 13.00 tip....
The 1st time I went, due to their no reservations policy, we were put in a 3 hour line up. We decided to come back another day instead.
The 2nd time we decided to go, I went extra early to get a table for 6 people. I was seated right away. While i was waiting for the rest of my party to show up, i ordered a drink. After setting down my drink, my waitress asked if I was ready to order. This was surprising since the table was set for more people. I told her i'd wait. She came back 15 mins later, and asked the same question! I was starting to feel pressured, that i was holding the table, altho the restaurant was empty except for another few tables. When my friends arrived, they were asked if they wanted a drink to start off. They said water for now, since haven't had a chance to look @ the menu yet. The waitress replied "sure. Water" & rolled her eyes before turning away. Throughout the night, her service did not improve. I had ordered a starter Caesar salad, but was delivered a entree size. When i asked if the order was correct, the waitress who brought it told me all Joey's salads are large and that it was the starter size. Of course, when the bill came, i was charged for a entree. Informing our server of this error on my bill, i was asked "but you did eat the salad?" in a tone suggesting since i ate it, it was MY mistake. Finally, after explaining it was another waitress who reassured me the salad was right before i ate it, she sighed and went to change the bill.
There was so much tension whenever our server came to our table. My friend was afraid to ask her for a steak knife & ate her steak with a butter knife. I was completely appalled @ the way we have been treated. My friend had emailed them regarding this awful night, & they did call to follow up, promising gift certificates etc. It has been 2 months and none has arrived yet, altho, i would NEVER, free or not, go back to be treated badly again.
So, I live one block away from Joey's. I would LOVE to be able to eat there often because of the convenience, but every time I've gone there (maybe 4 times) the service is slow and not knowlegable - they've got about 6 girls waiting around the hostess table, and not one server that can acutually help you! And this was when it hasn't been busy at all. So I haven't been back in about 5 months.
The menu isn't varied enough and the value isn't there either - there are only 2 or 3 items that are under $16 and the portions aren't big enough to justify spending more than that.
Go to Cactus Club one block down - pretty girls, way better service, better value, and more food choices.
Yes, the bathrooms are cool - but not cool enough to make me want to dine at Joey's.
After reading various mixed reviews about Joey's I was hesitant but decided to check it out for myself. Like most, I thought the building was nice - the patio is definately the highlight! Our service was great - very friendly and attractive waitress who guided us to items on the menu that met our needs/interests. The food was a pleasant surprise (and a great change from the competition in the area that Im sure most people are becoming tired of). Fantastic bold flavours, decent portions for the price & the menu offers a wide range of items that are sure to please everyone! Also I enjoyed the fact that they offered a soy protein option for many of their dishes that come with chicken or beef. Overall Id say I was pleasantly surprised by this addition to Broadway and will definatly be frequenting there in the future!
While Cactus Club still holds #1 status in the Earls, Milestones, Moxies, Keg world, Joey's is a relatively new entry into this mix. I have only been there for lunch and they will certainly hold their share of market share in the West Broadway area. The food was fine, my colleagues and I ordered different lunch dishes. Prices were ok and food was good. Waitresses attractive. The thing to go for at this new West Broadway location is simply to check out the new building designed and build from scratch. Sort of a restaurant makeover extreme with unlimited budget. Enjoy.
Ok, I really don't see how this is a Mediteranean restaurant. The menu reads almost just like Earls. I had there burger, and it wasnt bad, except there was either too much meat or too little bread, as by the time I finished the bun, I still had a 1/3 of my patty left. It tasted like your average frozen patty, nothing exciting here. My wife had souvlaki, which tasted comparable to the little souvlaki stand souvlakis, though double the price.
Service is horrendous here. The place was totally empty, and we stood at the front door for several minutes with the host waiting to be sat. Then it took another 5 minutes for our server to come visit us, Another 15 minutes to get our drinks, another 15 to get our food, and finally another 20 minutes for our bill. By the end of our meal there was only 5 other tables in the entire place.
We could see the service staff, 'busy' hangning out and chatting, and the manager in the middle of the gang.
The only thing this place has is its expensive room. You can save a fortune and go across the street to Veras or Memphis, and get better service and equal, if not better, quality food.
I don't think I will try a return visit here.
This place is a very pretty, well decorated. The bathrooms are clean and modern, with pictures of shocked women on the walls looking at me, very funny! But this is another one of the 'looks great but not much behind it' trendy restaurants popping up these days.
I went with a group of workmates and we waited a very long time to be seated. There doesn't appear to be much room there for any large group, I would suggest staying clear of this restaurant unless you're in a group of 2-4. Very slow service, too.
The food portion was extremely small, and I ordered a spicy stir-fry pasta dish. Considering the noodles and ingredients cost almost nothing, I was amazed to see the small portion. I was forced to eat some fries off friends' plates. Also, my food was too salty. I was warned by the waitress "the dish is a bit salty" and I didn't mind because I actually like salty dishes. But it wasn't a "bit" salty, it was overwhelming salty! I can't see how the chef could allow such a salty but otherwise tasteless dish to be served.
The salads looked decent, I'd try those if I ever had to go here again. But I would avoid going here ever again. It's too slow, and the portions too small. This restaurant is pretentious and thinks it's better than it actually is.
Went there for a dinner and drinks for a friend's going away party. The restaurant was nicely decorated, the washrooms were amazing and the service was very attentive. We had over 20 people in our group and all of us got our orders correctly and promptly and our server was able to remember our names. Not only did he remember our names, he actually made it a point to come back and ask us during our meal if everything was alright. Our drinks were always refilled and dishes didn't pile up on the table. I thought this was great considering the amount of people in our group. The manager and the owner even came over to ask us how everything was after our meal.
I ordered the yam fries which were crisp on the outside but warm and soft on the inside. The aoli that came with it was delicious too. I was sadly disappointed with the lobster ravioli with lemon dill sauce. Although it came to the table hot and beautifully presented, it didn't taste like anything special to me. It was just ok. i also had a bit of their chicken lettuce wraps. The filling was delicious and nicely seasoned but the it seemed there were more noodles than chicken pieces. I thought it could use a bit more veggies in the filling. I do think though that the prices were fair for the amount of food that you get.
I would go back to Joey's for appetizers and drinks. I don't think I will go for dinner.
Portions are usually on the generous side and I sat in the upstairs patio.
Very upscale trendy feel and this is probably my 5th time back since they opened. Service is "as expected" . Servers hired based on looks and mediocre serving standards.. but that's what they do don't they?
Had the viva salad and calamari and both were awesome. I also had a chance to have a bite of my friend's lettuce wrap which was also good.
GREAT SERVICE would be icing on the cake though
I have now been to this Joey's twice and what a great patio they have set up. They really have out done themselves with the set up. Love the fountain wall. The food is hit or miss ( loved the ahi tuna taco's and their chicken iceberg lettuce wraps but found their slidders to be very dry and boring ), the service is not bad and the food is a little pricey but the room makes up for all of it. If your looking for a place to chill out with friends for drinks or just want a quick bite to eat on a comfy patio this is a great place for it.
I've been here now several times and I still like the place. It already starts with a nice welcome at the door by one of the hostesses. The dining tables are nicely spaced from each other with modern, dimmed lights. Burgers, the rotissery chicken are good and the chocolate souffle cake for dessert is excellent. Service is very good and friendly. A good place to hang out with a bunch of friends in the weekend.
Food selection was consistant in quality as in other Joey's in Calgary, Edmonton and Coquitlam calimari was nicely done not too greasy nor over fried. Good QA. Good Caesar drink and cold Alex Keiths. Clean polished facilities & good lighting.
Ordered the black cod which was great nicely done and moist as it should be.
Loved the Bread pudding they had offered awhile back but they pulled it from their menu. Service was fair but seemed rushed even though the restaurant was only at 60-70% capacity. Worst part was the 'valet' service when you self park in their unmarked lot spaces and they demand $5 for holding your keys. They didn't seem to be very organized and even though they 'flashed' the car, they couldn't find it even though my headlights were blinking at them. Quite frankly I wouldn't trust your vehicle and contents to this 'contracted' service. Park on the street or in one of the 5 spots in the back.
Spoke to Cheryl - mgr to alert them of this service issue that they 'sub' out afterwards. The server had alerted the valet upon paying the bill but since I had parked in a spot near the front, no door service was offered. In contrast, Moxies at Broadway near Burrard will validate your parking charge from their building subtracting the parking from your meal bill whereas here, because the poor design of the parking area, they need to charge for the wasted space allocation.
Overall, it was a standard Joey's dining experience which is great but if you can't find parking due to the hassle of the valet, I would recommend going elsewhere ie. Earls on Fir or Broadway and Moxies which are more equipped for the driving patrons for the casual dining this establishment offers. Alternately if you live in the burbs, you may have the same dining at the busier and more established Coquitlam local.
We were very impressed, Very tasty food the service is great and they are very PROFESSIONAL.
They looked after you from the time you arrived to the time you left their restaurant service was amazing and the food was perfect. They called a taxi and even opened the taxi door for us. Very very classy act.
Went here on a date last week. The patio is upstairs and wow is it awesome! The wall fountain is really cool. Our server wasn't bad but they were really busy. We ordered some drinks which did take a little while to come but again they were busy so we didn't mind. Their appys are totally delish! Although they were very filling so if your thinking you want to have an appy and a main and a desert then you better be hungry for sure! I will totally be going back over and over! Try their tuna. OMG it was to die for! Thanks for the great night.
I hosted an event for my friends going away party here on a Monday evening. Our group consisted of 22 people. I came in earlier at lunch to drop off a specialty suit-case cake and they were more than happy to refridgerate it for me. We sat in the dining lounge by the bar. It wasn't overly busy or crowded because of the Monday :)
Service: The service was top notch, thanks to JIMMY and Dave. We had one picky/finicky/hard to please guest but she was happy with Jimmy. Always had our drinks topped, extra napkins, more sauces on the side and extra plates for sharing appies. Jimmy was so awesome he knew all our names! Well if your gonna charge 18% gratuity then you better know my name! Unlike other places i've been to for large group parties, Joey's doesn't charge for bringing in your own cake or a "cake dispensing fee!"...WTF?! We ordered a blowjob (whip cream and alcohol drink), and they ran out of whip cream, Jimmy was awesome enough to get it from the store next door.
Food: Loved the Earth and Surf Calamari.....soooooooo goooood, loved the Chinatown Chicken Lettuce Wraps. For main entree 4 people and myself got the Lobster Ravioli, mmmmmmm....... I heard the flatbreads, gyoza, salads, and sandwiches were great. A lot of people ordered the Maple Salmon, it was really delicious.
Value: I really don't remember the cost of drinks because we just kept on ordering rounds of petron, apple-pie shots, jaggerbombs, wine...bottles were litally " poppin' " Food was priced okay for high end casual dining, I love cactus club, so I would say that Joey's is definitely more diverse and upscale...Menu and Prices are listed the Joeys' website which is great.
Great atmosphere is apparent as soon as you enter the place. Service was pretty good as well. Food is a little pricey for what you're getting, however I ordered the fish tacos and they were superb. Their tables are bolted to the ground so it may be a bit awkward for larger groups. Note that groups of 8 or larger get 18% gratuity automatically added to their bill.
