Joe's Grill is a diner style cafe with 4 locations in Vancouver.
My husband and I were excited to try out the new Joe's Grill on Main St. today for breakfast. Having been to Joe's on Davie and Denman many times and always had a good experience we were looking forward to one opening up in our hood.
Well, unfortunately it went sour very quickly. We are both familiar with the menu and were ready pretty quick with our orders. The server was very pleasant and prompt which is usual for Joe's. Anyway, my husband ordered the Heuvos Rancheros which is pretty straight forward and I wanted the French Toast which is accompanied by 2 strips of bacon and 2 sausages for $8.45 plus another $1.50 for 2 eggs. Good deal if you eat meat, which I don't, so I thought instead of the meat perhaps I could add cheese to my eggs (protein) and side of tomato. I watched the server ask the chef (cook) and apparently the owner too, as he mad a face and said no cheese! REALLY?! A piece of measly cheddar instead of MEAT? The server was pleasant and said that tomatoes where pricey...?!? Anyway, I thought okay maybe some cucumber too then, of course that came back with a no too. Finally, after some thought I decided (feeling horribly high maintenance but ripped off) that I would forget the eggs and ask for a side of fruit instead of those costly tomatoes. WELL, I must have been crazy to think that would be a reasonable request considering it's summer time and fruit was in abundance, because that came with a hefty price of an additional $1.50. That's when we decided to cancel our orders and take our hungry asses down the street to Barney's Cafe. We had a great experience there and the customer service was perfect!!
I have been going to Joe's Grill for over four years - ever since I read the great reviews for the restaurant on Dinehere.ca. Every menu item I have ever tried, believe me I have tried a lot, has been rewarded with good sized portions and tasty food. I'm glad they opened this new Main Street location so that I no longer need to head downtown or to Kitsilano to get my diner fix.
