A Vancouver landmark named after the city's first lifeguard in the 1890's. Joe Fortes is a multi-level, San Francisco-styled place with an oyster bar, rooftop garden patio and ample restaurant seating.
Most Overrated Restaurant in the City!
That's all i got to say!!
Food: We had the vday dinner special menu. We ordered the lobster asparagus salad and 6 oysters as appetizers. They were decent, but the salad had 3 tiny pieces of cut-up asparagus, not much of an asparagus salad! As the entree we had the lover's platter; came with two tiny tiny pieces of tenderloin steak (I believe 4 oz each) and a choice of either 2 alaska king crab legs or a large scallop (for each person) and some potatoes and vegetable sides. We choose a set of legs and 1 scallop. The legs and the scallop were terribly disappointing. The scallop was slightly larger than a toonie and the legs were the size of 1/2 a real alaska king crab leg! We noticed that the other table also ordered the same item, but recieved much larger legs! And the dessert was a trio of chocolate samplers....eh, it was just ok..
Service: Nothing to toot about. Were seated but our jackets were never offered to be taken (unlike with other patrons). Server checked on us once. Didn't make vday any more special for us than if we ate at an ordinary restaurant (ie. whitespot). Seemed that they judge the patrons and offer service to the older crowds.
Value: The set vday menu was $48 per person. Was really not worth the money. Highly overrated, and inconsistent service.
Ambiance: Bustling and had a piano player...but nothing very spectacular. No view and was quite loud.
Would I return? Not likely...too snooty and overrated. Too many BETTER places in Vancouver! Don't know why it's so popular, perhaps they were selected to recieve better service.
