I'm not sure if it was just an off day but I ordered an Americano from here and it tasted overly bitter. I don't mind a little bitter taste but this was over the top. I have had Americanos at other JJ Bean locations and they were much better.
The space is very nice, new and modern. I like the fact that even their smalls are doubles; many coffee shops will serve singles instead such as Bean Around the World and charge you about the same. I will probably give them another try but please don't let me down again JJ when I am in need of my afternoon coffee fix.
I've been to this JJ Bean location a few times (4), and each time I've noticed that the staff seem quite uninterested in the customers.
Rather than interacting with clients, I've noticed their interest in carrying on conversation amongst themselves and not making any effort to make the customer feel welcomed. They make a hell of a coffee, but I really think that the staff (sorry to generalize) could use a pep talk. With some many other cafes in the area, it could do them some good to smile!
On one instance, I noticed they were out of my favourite muffin. I could see into the kitchen and noticed a bunch of muffins that looked like they came out of the oven. I ordered a muffin and the lady says "take a look at the display, we're out...". I responded by asking if those muffins (pointing in the kitchen) were ready. Without saying anything, she walks back, bags one, and tells me my total.
In addition to their great coffee...they make a mean carrot and raisin muffin!!
We have been regular customers at this location for about 6 months and have actually gone out of our way to other locations when we are out and about to get coffee . I have to agree with other comments about the staff. They do seem more interested in talking between them selves rather than serving the customer, in 6 months of placing the exact same order 5 or 6 days a week, 2 large medium roast 1 no room for cream and an oatmeal cookie (one of the best cookies ever made the perfect cookie with what used to be the perfect cup of coffee). you would think the staff would know the order but they don't, The only awesome staff member they had who took the time to say good morning and knew our order has left. They have now switched the medium roast coffee to a french pressed process. The worst coffee I have ever tasted. it is murky gritty and oily. So bad when you get to the last 1/4 of the cup you can't finish it unless you like drinking dirt. It's not as hot as the original brewed medium roast. When I complained about the ""NEW"" way they made the coffee I was told "" you will never get a better cup of coffee than french pressed"" The staff member did not even listen to my complaint, if he had he would of offered to replace the crappy coffee with a different BREWED blend. Instead he choose to make me feel like my opinion did not matter. if you like robotic uncaring service this is the location for you. you get better service at starbucks another coffee house we avoid. We will be looking for another place to get our coffee. If this was my location I would give the loyal customer the option of the brewed medium roast or the cup of dirt and oil. Just my opinion but then again my opinion doesn't count in this location. I am sure we will find a coffee house with a good cup of coffee that will appreciate the 50 bucks a week.
When my office moved from being across from an Artigiano to what I feared would be a foreign coffee chain wasteland, I was happy to discover JJ Bean at Homer and Davie.
The small latte is nice and strong - beautifully presented with just the right amount of crema on top. The cafe is bright, stylish and relatively free of the laptops that plague some cafes in town. While there are a few food offerings, JJ's is all about the coffee, and it shows in the quality.
