JJ Bean has many locations around Vancouver and serves espresso drinks and light snacks.
I was walking pass JJ, the other day, saw this new location and wanted to have their coffee. I decided to take in the ambiance, with their big windows, comfortable location and people watch. It wasn't that busy, my server was friendly and ordered cafe americano and pastry. I liked this location, very relaxed, my coffee was great, lots of flavour, and not bitter or chalky.
I had my pastry later in the day, lots of chocolate and hit the spot.
Recommended when you're in the area. Great spot to people watch.
JJ Bean just opened up a new location on the corner of Bute and Alberni. The new space is pretty cool with an upstairs lounge, open design, lots of windows and a sidewalk patio. I felt like I was on the set of Clockwork Orange sitting on their patio furniture; its definitely a unique look. I ordered an iced Americano and it was very good. In fact, all their locations serve great coffee. If you still are a customer of the "big chain", you should give the small local chain a chance instead: their coffee is much better.
This has to be the dirtiest coffee house I've ever visited. I visited saturday morning 10.30 and notice the floor and chairs are covered with food, even an empty butter/spread carton on the floor. I order my coffee, medium roast but they don't have any so I'm ok with dark. The server hands my cup to me not on a saucer or by the handle but with his five fingers on the rim and I'm thinking I hope you've washed your hands, haven't been to the toilet recently or you don't have a cold. I tell him to give me a takeout cup and pour it into that. I go upstairs because its so dirty downstairs and it gets worse, the steps are covered in fresh spilled liquid and signs of liquid that have been there for days stain the steps. I find three empty seats everyone has food on them. I look around at tables covered in used cups and plates, the table are splattered with old coffee stains and the floor is littered with crumbs and pieces of food. I walked out its the worst place I've ever.
