Located on the PNE grounds. Family owned & operated since the 1920’s, Jimmy’s Lunch serves hamburgers loaded with fried onions. Hot dogs, fish & chips and french fries are among other traditional favourites at the PNE.
This has always been a long time favorite place of mine too eat at my Mom and I always went to Jimmy's Lunch every year and it is in a good spot. All their food is good and they always have a big line up there. Nice that it stays in Jimmy's family.
So,in all my years of hitting the PNE,this was my first Jimmy's lunch experience.
In two words,Big Deal.
They put orange pop on the onions, So what.
Now,I understand that the PNE is pricey.Lived here all my life, and go every year. So,I get that part.
But,come on.A 6 dollar hamburger gets you onions mustard and relish.Thats it.
And really,it was nothing great. They can say all they want that they bake the buns fresh, and they use their own patties, but I call B.S.
Tasted like your typical low end frozen patty, with your typical Weston bakery bun.
White spot on the grounds would be a way better choice.
Jimmy's lunch has been at the PNE since 1929 in one form or another.
It's always shown in news clips of the PNE and it's a very popular restaurant.
The most famous item at Jimmy's is the onions on the grill.
They add paprika, dried parsley and sprite to the onions when they flat grill them and this along with the juices of the burger make these onions one of kind flabour. It's the onions that you smell when walking down the fair grounds.
The burger patty is their specially made 15% more fat steakette that cooks up fast and is juicie and some what flavourfull. The bun in very fresh and sooo soft and the toppings are relish, mustard and the world famous onions!!! But the most disappointing part of the burger for me was the world famous onions.
The onions made the burger a soggy mouth feel and were water logged. After the first couple of bites I had to scrape them off. Now I like onions on my burgers but not these ones. There is always a couple of line ups at Jimmy's all day long so maybe it's just me that did not like them.
It's has a great location and a place to sit and eat and the service is fast and friendly. And they have many others items to eat not just burgers.
I would recommend trying a burger just to say you did like I did but since it's the PNE and there are many other places to eat near by and at the same price I will not be going back to Jimmy's for a burger next year. Even with out the onions.
