I was greeted by a friendly server and I decided to order their Dynamite roll, avacado roll and 2 salmon & tuna nigiri. My meal wasn't too long of wait, but I didn't like the Salmon or Tuna nigiri, found it to be dry and the rice was warm. My avacado roll was good, and had lots of taste to it. I was disappointed in the dynamite roll, dry in taste and not very much flavour and I didn't finish it or want to take the rest home.
Glad I tried it, left me with wanting to explore other places.
Where else can you find a bento box (including soup) for under 7 bucks? I was drawn in by the good deal, and while ambiance and food quality isn't up there (as expected), it is what it is and definitely edible. Good for a quick lunch or dinner if you're on a budget.
Food is definitely edible and deserves 2.5 stars. Points were lost on the california roll not having the shredded crab meat, but just the stick, tempura batter being a bit thick and fried in old oil, the rice in the unagi don being a little sour tasting (I think they used sushi rice instead of unmixed rice by accident). Only other complaint is the skimpy wasabi portions, but they're happy to provide more when asked.
Service was good and while some might give ambiance a lower rating, for the type of mini sushi joint that it is, I think it met expectations.
Foodwise it was nothing special. The fillings for the sushi were not good quality and not as stuffed full compared to other places and it looked like the rolls were hastily put together. The red colour seemed to be flaking off the fish in the Cali rolls. Bits of ingredients from other sushi rolls were stuck onto the rolls I ordered.
The yams in the dynamite rolls were over fried and I wished they would have used Japanese soy sauce as the Chinese kind seem to be too salty for the sushi. Tuna rolls were bland.
The service was good, but I did have a concern on their food preparation process. As soon as I placed the order, the cashier started to help out with the cook in putting together the sushi which isn't too sanitary (that's when I started to regret ordering).
