Atmosphere was fancy coffee shop. We were lucky to get a window seat but then our view was obscured by a giant penguin window painting. Pancakes were good and so were the sauages. Home fries were slightly cold and unseasoned. Omelette was good but looked like it was made in omelette maker. I ordered sourdough but was sure I got packaged white toast.
Oh well, it was fairly cheap and the coffee was plentiful and good. Server was robotic but efficient.
Last night, my friend and I came here for dinner since we were already going to be downtown. I thought for sure it would be fully booked for Dine-out since it was on Robson and had a menu for only $15, so I called to make reservations. To my surprise, they didn't seem to be fully booked at all. We got there a little bit before our reservation time and noticed there weren't very many diners at all. We waited at the door for about 5 minutes before any one approached us (even though they walked by a few times). We were ushered to a table near the back.
My friend ordered from the regular menu and I ordered from the DOV menu. To start, I ordered the salad because I have a shellfish allergy. In hindsight, I should have just ordered either one the other options and gave it to my friend since the salad really was the worst choice out of the three. The chicken I ordered was quite tasty and came with a generous serving of veggies that were done right (bonus marks there). The only thing I didn't like was the apple glaze on top of the chicken. A little too tart and sweet at the same time and overly gelatinous. The dessert of choco mousse was just "ok" - I'm bummed they didn't offer any other option. My friend ordered the salmon on cedar plank and was a little grossed out when it came. The cedar plank rested on top of the pilaf. Since we were told the fish was not cooked on the cedar plank, we couldn't tell how sanitary the piece wood was.
We didn't receive good service at all. Our server would go around refilling water, but never came to our table even when clearly our glasses were empty. She never came to check up on us and asked "how things were" like she did other tables. I didn't appreciate not receiving the same service as our neighbouring tables.
Had dinner here last week with friends.....right off the bat we could tell it was going to be interesting. The a/c was cranked up (in Feb?!?), the lighting was super bright and there was one person working in the restaurant.
I'll make this short. The food was just ok. Soup & salad starters were good. Steaks were fine, but the salmon was overcooked. Rice served with the salmon was bland. Dessert was average (choc mousse). Not worth the $28 DOV menu.
Our server was unattentive even though there was only one other table in the restaurant. We ordered cocktails and had 2 bottles of wine. Once our dinner plates were cleared, he dropped dessert, not asking if we wanted tea or coffee. Shortly after he dropped the bill at the table without being asked. He then headed straight out the door to bring the open sign off the street..... I guess he wanted to go home! It was only 8:45PM!
We paid, leaving a tip not for the service quality, but because the place was so empty we felt sorry that this was all he was going to make from the dinner hour. Walked around the corner to enjoy a coffee elsewhere........
Not sure why the past reviews have been bad for this place. Each time I've come here for brunch I consume some great food, and receive impeccable customer service.
Food - Great brunch menu. Hearty breakfast and lunch menu for a good value. I've sampled several items on the menu and have enjoyed each of my selections. My favorite so far has been the Inlets' Eggs Benedict. Mmmm...
Service - Outstanding. Profession and courteous. Very prompt and friendly service. Quick refills on the water and coffee and our servers always ask us how our meal is.
Ambiance - Great location on Robson, but not much in terms of view or internal decor. Nice, comfy chairs though.
I seldom go to Downtown for lunch. A friend invited me over to Inlet's for a quick lunch which I was pretty satisfied. Loved the smoked salmon which was just right on the taste. The salad had a really nice vinegrette which definitely opened the appetize. It's really interesting to sit out on the patio and watched all the tourist and people walking by. Got that busy in the the middle of city feeling which I don't get in Port Coquitlam. What a relaxing afternoon meal. Value I guess its acceptable since it's on Robson. Service definitely is prompt and fast. Hopefullyl got another chance to go again when the weather is nice in Vancouver.
This place is really a gem in Vancouver!
Went there on a sunday afternoon. They have the best soup we've tasted in Vancouver so far. The menu is all-out healthy and varied. Taste is awesome! Service was great! The ambiance is also chic, clean and pleasant- nice view in the heart of dowtown. Will definitely be returning.
Stopped by here for breakfast 2 days in a row while staying downtown. First day I had some pancakes, pretty good nothing to write home about. The second time I got their french toast and I was so pleased with it.
They use french bread instead of slices of white like most restaurants do and I definitely appreciated it. The french toast was nice and crispy and not at all soggy.
Both times service was good. Very friendly and efficient, and they left me in relative peace to read my book while making sure I had coffee. As for the ambiance, it's your typical hotel restaurant setting (this place is in the Blue Horizon).
I was warned by a friend that this wasn't the "best" restaurant for the food. I did however want to give the $15 category a try, and so a few of my friends and I decided to risk our luck. The appitizer and dessert was acceptable. Our entree wasn't the greatest. I personally didn't like mine. The vegetarian dish was the only one that turned out all right. I suppose that's all I can describe about it. I think others would have different opinions but I guess we paid our price by not believing our friend in the first place!
I have ate at Inlets a couple of times and the service and food has always been great. My favorite menu item is the Sante Fe Chicken Salad. The ingredients are very fresh and delicious (much better than Earls Santa Fe, by far). For a casual eating place in Vancouver, I would definetly suggest Inlets.
Ambiance is like a nice coffee shop, which is not what I expected for the $28 menu of DOV. They told us they lost our reservation, but could still seat us (so why tell us?) The first words out of the server's mouth were, "Sorry. They think I'm a super server, I guess, because I'm the only one on tonight."
With the exception of the prime rib, and the chocolate mousse, which was really good, everything else was bland. Crab quesadilla, salmon sampler and salad. The halibut was dry and had no flavour--so disappointing. And their "wine list" had 4 options each for white or red. I thought it was the DOV list, and asked for the full list, but no, 4 wines is all they stock. Everything was a disappointment.
