If you have a craving for Indian food, the Oven is sure to hit the spot! Located on Maple and 4th, the restaurant has been a kitsilano institution for over a decade. From creamy kormas, to tangy vindaloos, to flavorful masalas, to sizzling tikkas, we got it all.
The Oven is a hidden gem: it occupies the second floor of the building, and you can easily miss it, unless you look up and make your way up two flights of stairs. Once you are here, however, the view of downtown and the mountains will be a pleasant surprise.
Girlfriend and I mostly order delivery but we have eaten in a couple of times. The decor and ambience at the restaurant is pretty shabby but luckily the food is always delicious and always consistant.
Neither of us like their butter chicken though, which they claim is Vancouver's best, it seems too sweet and almost tastes like it could have been made by Chef Boyardee.
We prefer the daal amritsari (lentils), pindi chana (chickpeas) and madrasi lamb, but there are a lot of great dishes to choose from.
One nice thing about eating in is the chai tea, it's quite good.
The delivery usually takes anywhere from 40-60mins although on a busy saturday night we have waited as long as 1hr 20mins and had to call to make sure they hadn't forgotten us!
The price is a little high compared to some other indian joints, but the delivery aspect is a bonus as most of the other indian places around here don't deliver (that i know of!).
This place is pretty good. I've tried to find a really great Indian place in Van., but just can't. I'm still looking. Indian Oven is close and the price is OK. I've only had take out their as my brother recommended it. I love Indian and was soo hoping that this would be the place I've been looking for. Sadly, my search continues....
The highly-touted butter chicken was served in a far too sweet and barely spiced red sauce, tasting much like tinned tomato soup. A shame, as the rogan josh was quite pleasant, but a disappointment nonetheless. Maybe it was an off night?
Don't be fooled by the decor, this is the best curry house in Vancouver. I'm a huge curry fan and I have searched high and low for a place like this. The chicken curry and the chicken tikka masala are outstanding. Not much more to say really. I lived in the UK for a longtime and to find a curry house of this quality is such a relief, no more buying cookbooks and trying in vain to reproduce a masticating masterpiece, hurrah!
I love this place. I've tried all their paneers now and every one is delicious. Their Shahi Paneer is my favourite. Every experience here has been good and we go pretty often. Usually we do take out. The portions are a bit small and it is extra for rice and naan, but if you order for take-out the portion sizes double. That said, it is a pretty nice place to have a sit-down dinner. We brought my in-laws here for a dinner and everybody enjoyed it. The waitstaff are always attentive and courteous.
If you want something great to eat and a quick delivery, indian oven is the place for you. I have orderd from here on 4 different occasions and each time it is wonderful. My favourite is chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken. The garlic nan is to die for, the indian quessidia and veggie samosa are also a great appetizer. It is priced very nicely aswell. 2 entres, 1 appetizer, 2 nan and dessert for roughly $40-45. That is an awesome deal. It always leaves you full and happy. Also sometimes it can make a great breakfast since it can be filling. One of vancouvers best.
*Service and Ambiance get a 3 because I have never actually dined in the restaurant itself, just delivery*
