Located in a food court off Hornby Street near Pender
For a food court, this is great butter chicken. I had take-out today and $7.60 got me: Rice, butter chicken, salad, naan (nice big piece) and papadum. I don't normally like papadum but this one was pretty good. A lot milder than usual. The naan was thick and soft and the chicken was really good. They included a bit of salad in the container which was good too. I would go more often if I worked a little closer.
This place is brilliant. Amazing value for money: $7.95 for a big plate with two types of curry or the best butter chicken in town (no kidding), a fresh crunchy salad and rice. A half size for $5.95. A little more for freshly made naan bread. The people are very friendly and, at noon, there is a line up of 20-30 people. Worth the wait. I've eaten here at least 50 times and the food is consistently delicious and fresh tasting. Yummy!
In my continuing search to find the best curry take out place in Downtown Vancouver, I decided to try this place as the reviews were quite good. I ordered the Beef Vindalow with naan. The only good thing I can say is that the curry has a nice spicy kick to it. The beef was ground beef and the curry was quite watery. The a naan was chewy and had a chemical taste to it, maybe too much bicarb. I don't see what the hype about this place is. Not worth the $10 it cost me.
Working 4-5 blocks away, this is a little longer trip than we normally take for lunch (there are so many delicious lunch spots downtown!) but it's a highly anticipated treat when we do go. The line can be long, but it's worth it. Try the combos - everyone gets the butter chicken (which is great) but some of the veggie curries are also fantastic, as is the saag paneer. Also - GET THE NAAN. They always ask, it's an extra dollar or something, but it's like some kind of hybrid of pita/naan/pancake/garlic bread. It's awesome.
I had some butter chicken, it was pretty good. I guess I need to write more. I had a coke as well. My friend had the butter chicken. I think he had a diet coke. 300 characters per review? should I quit my job? I think I'll try the Greek place next to it next time. Alright, that should be enough characters.
