Okay, let's get past the ugly sign on the outside. Inside is relatively decent and we had no problems with the service.
The food is, hmm...whaddya call it, "American" grill type? You know, burgers, steaks, the usual suspects that we used to expect from the big chains like Earl's, Cactus, etc. (at least until Feenie et. al stepped in and started raising the bar...)
There's no surprises here whatsoever that we could see. Execution was decent, the food was good but not great.
So, what's the deal with this place? Well, they have one selling point in that the food is decent and it is INEXPENSIVE. At least for Yaletown. Nearly all the burger platters ring in under $10 and you get a choice of soup, salad or fries. Most of the brunch dishes are similar and particularly expensive ones just hit $12.
Will it survive? I dunno. Food-wise, there's really no unique reason to go here. But if you ARE in Yaletown and you need to eat, this is one of the cheapest "real" restaurants.
well the food here is so bad it tast like a card board box along with that the place is so dirty and the carpet patches are ripped and filthy I hate when restaurants dont even try to be creative at all and this one of those
places.the guy serving drimks behind the bar came in from a smoke break and didnt even wash his dirty hands and it looked like he didnt shower in weeks.
FOOD - For $25 I had a ceviche, sea bass and pumpkin mousse. The food was very good and the portions were large. I hope they keep the ceviche on their menu. I'm often hesitant to try fixed dinner menus but this was definitely worth it.
SERVICE - Very friendly and attentive. There's no pretentiousness here.
VALUE - Great.
AMBIANCE - Casual and fun. You can sit at a table by the fireplace, at a tall table in the lounge area or right up at the bar and watch sports.
We wanted a quiet, casual place to dine this past weekend and settled on The Hurricane Grill. We were two of about 12 people in the dining area and the service was just not acceptable. I arrived about five minutes after my dining companion did. The server didn't come by for drink orders until 10 minutes after I showed up. Another couple walked through the door half an hour later and had to seat themselves. They also had to hunt down their own menus.
We ordered the mussels to start. Although they were not bad, I was not expecting previously frozen mussels. For our mains, we had the steak salad. The steak was tough and under seasoned, and the grilled/roasted peppers were burt. The Asparagus was good though. They should seriously consider re-training their service/kitchen staff. With all the fantastic restaurants in the area, they can not afford to screw up like this. Oh and the sign outside...ugly!
was a nice sunny week.night. sat on the patio, waited almost like 10minutes before anyone came to take drink orders, was not even offered water. The Hurricane pasta dish was good value for the money at $14.99, the ahi-tuna wasn't so good $18.99, overcooked so it was rubbery.
would try again at a Friday/Sat/Sunday to see if service is better...and also stick with the pasta/burger dishes.
