Ho Yuen Kee is a casual restaurant offering quality Chinese dishes including dungeness crab, steamed whole fish, peking duck as well as wonton, congee and soup noodle entrees.
I was introduced to this restaurant by my family several months ago. You can tell these guys have reached the next stage of enlightenment when it comes to Cantonese cooking. Presentation and ambience take a back seat to what is really important -- the food. Their specialties are served in old-style vessels seemingly shipped straight from the streets of HK. I have found service to be variable so for the best experience try going on weeknights and even then definitely reserve.
The dishes I have tried that I highly recommend are the pearl lobster, the soya duck (fatty but just pick off the fat for great flavour), stewed pork soup with seaweed, and for dessert the tofu far, the melt-in-your-mouth tofu dessert with ginger syrup. The tofu here is hands-down the best I have had in North America.
The food there is much better than a lot of Chinese restaurants with similar menus. I like that it is a casual place to have a family dinner but it still offers good quality. But even if I'm not having a family dinner I go there with my husband if I have a craving for dessert.
Their specialty is the ginger milk custard. They make it the best I've ever tasted. Their tofu dessert is also superb because its texture is as smooth as silk. A must try!
