Ho Ho's offers Chinese takout with large portions and affordable prices.
Something has changed at Ho Ho's. The portion sizes have suddenly shrunk. There are half the items to choose from. The service has gotten slower and less effective. I dont know why the sudden change, but it deffinitely is not for the better. I swear I was there one day and it was the good old Ho Ho's, the next visit it was completely different. It couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks between visits...I dont think.
I used to be able to get 3 meals out of a Ho Ho's visit. This time I barely had any left overs from 1 meal.
Perhaps they weren't making any money before, but it's strange that they operated that way for several years. The quality of food never was that great, and it still isnt, but the cheap prices and huge portions and speedy service were it's saving grace. Without that, well, there are lots of other crappy chinese restaurants out there.
Ho Ho's used to be an option for inexpensive, but passable Chinese takeout. You didn't have high expectations, but you'd basically get what you paid for. I also noticed a sudden change a while back, where the quality of the food and the portion sizes dropped dramatically. I asked one of the employees if they were under new management and they said that they were. Well I gave it one more chance after that and then stopped going there entirely. When I go in there and look at what's sitting in the pans, I just can't bring myself to order any of it because it all just looks so unappetizing, and like there's absolutely NO pride in the products that they are serving...and really, with the products that they ARE serving, why would there be?
Sure, you get a white styrofoam box with 2 pounds of cheap greasy noodles, cheap vegetables(zucchini and green peppers that a little too ripe) and a smatterering of heavily breaded mystery meat for $5.99. I will concede the BBQ is ok. Spend the extra couple of bucks and go to Hons if you want decent, cheap Chinese fare.
My boyfriend and i went there earlier to go for a quick bite to eat. Yes, you get a large ammount for a cheap price, but not only is the price cheap the food is cheap itself. It had no taste, the fried rice was gross ... all in all it was awful, Never again.
My choice for cheap chinese food is Mr.Wu's on edmonds across from Value village @ Edmonds & Kingsway. Cheap, Great food, Awesome service.
I remember the first time I went sometime last year, I ordered four toppings and was immediately astounded by the huge portions of food they gave out ... all for just $6.99! At first I thought the huge portions must compensate for poor taste, BUT the food was simply delicious. You MUST try their BBQ Pork (very limited, sold out almost always), lemon chicken, chop suey, and sweet&sour pork. There are so many choices as well, with a balanced proportion of meats, veggies. The service isn't bad either, the waitresses are very nice and generous, and the place is clean. The washroom could be better, but hey, life isn't perfect. I had a talk with the manager there once, and they told me they don't own the Ho Ho's on Robson/Commercial, which might explain how the taste isn't as good there. Summing up - highly recommended.
