Always Reliable Indian Food

I didn't start going here until about October. Now that I know that it's there, it has got to be one of my favourite lunch spots. I work in the area and have become a little biased toward the Curry House. They have a great lunch special which includes rice and naan for 7 bucks. Also, there is a 10% discount on pickups. The owner, who always greets and prepares my meals is also great to talk with while enjoying the food.

I agree with the previous review in that I am not sure why everyone keeps saying that's it's overpriced. I am in several times a week, and I have never payed more than $12 for a meal. Granted, that I always get one of three of my favourite items. I have been to 3 or 4 other Indian restaurants in the area and they lack the character that I find here, I also noticed that with a lot of other places you're paying extra for naan and rice. Where as it's included with entrees at the Curry House, this is often 5 or 6 dollars elsewhere.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a good old fashion Indian cooking, I highly recommend this place.

Good Indian restaurant in Kits.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and it's my go-to Indian place in Vancouver. The food is tasty, the portions are good sized, and the staff are attentive. I'm not sure why there are so many comments about this place being overpriced as you get a decent amount of food for about $15 (includes a curry, rice and roti). The appies, desserts and drinks are comparable to any other Indian restaurant I've been to.

Good food and good price

My girlfriend and I ate there the second day after new management took the restaurant over. The new owners are very nice people and were attentive and very hospitable.

The food was very good and the prices are reasonable. $12 for a sit down dinner does not seem unreasonable so I am not sure why other reviews thought the price was high.

The spices on the food were exactly what we wanted. The Punjabi Style chicken was tender and my girlfriend enjoyed her dinner very much as well.

The decor in the restaurant seems confusing for Indian food and I hope that the new owners decide to change the theme up a bit. Otherwise, we enjoyed are meal very much.

We decided to check this place out because they were in the entertainment book. We went at about 5:30 on a weekend and were the first one there. The restaurant is small, has a very low ceiling and is dimly lit. Adding onto that no one else was there, our conversations fell to a whisper as soon as we entered. The atmosphere was less spooky once other customerse came in.

The restaurant is family owned and operated. The mother was the only server in the place. She was polite but had a completely hoarse voice so we could barely hear her. The food was good, but in my opinion very overpriced for the quality and amount you get. Places like Saffron serve larger portions (especially of rice, which we ran out of fast) that taste better at a cheaper price. Most dishes here are about $16-17.

The cooking isn't bad here, but we probably won't go back given that there are better indian places around in terms of value.

Small portions & overpriced

We went there on a weekend for dinner. The place was fairly empty. Only had 2 other tables being served.

Looks like a family run restaurant. The lady seemed to be the owner there. The service was a bit on the slow side.

The food came and we were fairly disappointed. The portions were small. On top of that, we had to order extra side dish of rice because there wasnt enough rice to finish the butter chicken.

We asked if the Rice order would be small portion, she replied 'yes it is!' we were shocked when we heard that. At least she was being honest.

Even though we had a 2 for 1 coupon from the Entertainment book, it was a very expensive dinner.

We would not be back as the the small portions and overpricing were the major reasons.

a decent experience, but a little overpriced

I found the food to be decent, but the portions a little on the small side considering how much we paid. I went with my parents for the first time tonight and we ordered 3 chicken dishes (korma, jaipur, sag) as well as a a dish of paneer pakora. Overall the food was quite tasty.

Think twice before paying extra for rice and chapatis; as someone else pointed out it's not even basmati rice, the amount you get is rather small, and the chapatis we received were a bit soggy for some reason.

The atmosphere was quite nice - it's a weeknight so it wasn't busy and the service was adequate.

My teenage son who aspires to be a chef LOVED everything.
My 12 year old son couldn't finish his meal because "there were too many ingredients in the rice". So my teenager finished it off for him... he LOVED it!
We went as a group of 7 people for a friend's birthday because we were in the neighbourhood to go to India Grill which looks like it's gone. Everyone quite enjoyed their meals and appetizers but we tend to agree with previous comments... mother server needs to take a lesson on proper etiquette... ie/ not reaching in front of guests. However service was fast and attentive. Meals were generally about $17-19 per person but we've had meals in the $10-14 range equally good.

We might go again if we were in the neighbourhood but would try other cheaper locations first... Saffron's good! and the buffet is GREAT value.

Best Jaipur Chicken on Earth

Honestly, if you get a chance, go to this excellent little gem of a restaurant. The same family has owned it for about 25 years. The service vascilates between great and kind of crappy but in a well intentioned way.

The food! My god, the food! First, the saag paneer is amazing - creamy and delicious. The paneer (cheese) homemade in the restaurant kitchen, filling and top quality.

If you are a fan of spicy, my ex always ordered the vindaloo lamb and was never disappointed. Spicy and flavourful but not overpowering.

My personal favourite is a dish called Japiur Chicken - pardon my ignorance, but I believe it is named after a reigion in India. Regardless of what it's named after, it should be called "yummy". It is delicious and vinegary in a tomato yoghurt base. I am always too full once I order it (being that I usually have stuffed myself on excellent bite size pakoras and samosas as appies) to finish it, but I always try!

This place is tiny and a bit off the beaten track - right next to Westbeach, west of Burrard on 4th - I honestly suggest anyone looking for an inexpensive and fabulous Indian dinner check it out.
