H.A.V.E. Cafe is social enterprise in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. H.A.V.E. functions as a culinary training school where students not only learn how to work in a kitchen and prepare great food from scratch, but they also obtain their Food Safe Certificate and job placement. The menu offers a wide variety to from-scratch dishes such as steak sandwiches with hand-cut fries, curry stir frys and soups, salads and sandwiches.
HAVE is a great little gem in the downtown east side. I attended the open house for the program and was very impressed with the quality and goals of the program. It's a bold initiative to reach and connect a wide range of people while offering great food and service. The food was sensational at the event (catering), and the regular menu has got everything you could want in it for a good lunch. It's got a vintage diner feel to it decorated with artwork relevant to the neighbourhood such as great photography art of the DTES.
Definitely a pleasure frequent and support.
I have been here a few times. The food is always fresh, well presented and tasty. My favorite is the pizza by the slice with fresh veggies. We have also used then for catering events and the food is always amazing. Top it off with the fact that they are helping to give skills and experience to those who need it the most and you have a great combination. I highly reccomend the H.A.V.E Cafe
