Guu Kobachi is the newest member of the Guu family. Kobachi has no regular menu and only offers daily fresh sheets of the chef's latest creations.
This used to be the site of Toratatsu Izakaya which was a great restaurant already but the Guu chain took it over, revamped the entire narrow suite and renamed it "Kobachi". The servers were great and speak both japanese and english well. The food was the usual great Guu style. They have a whole page of $3.80 tapas dishes. The manager was very very appreciative of all the customers coming and going. Parking is usually street metered on Alberni or Robson.
Guu is my favourite izakaya so I was excited to try Guu Kobachi. Although the website claims that it has a concept of “no regular menu" and "only serve daily fresh sheets and accept your request as much as possible", this was not true because I asked the waitress if there was a daily fresh sheet but I was told that the regular menu is all they have. Food: I like the Miso Kakuni, especially at $3.80 it's a steal, but the asparagus and salad tasted mediocre and portion was small. Finally the yakiniku Don was really bad...the short rib was too salty, brown rice was way too dry, and the flavours, miso paste and salad leaves, do not go well together at all. Guu Kobachi definitely has room for improvement as it just opened. For now I will stick with other Guu locations...
