Okay. So I work directly across the street from this place, so I've been there a couple of times. A lot of my coworkers are regulars there and eat maybe 2-4 times a week there for lunch and stuff. Often it lasts them for two lunches.
I've been there twice, both during dinner. The people who work there give quick service and are understanding if my coworkers are short of cash sometimes, they just leave a tab and pay extra next time they go in. It's a great deal for the price you pay.
At night, they give you soup, small bowl of fried rice, and these really yummy flaky biscuits. You pick your own foods (noodles, meats, veggies, sauces) with a chart of different flavours you can make with the sauces there. The cook there by the huge round stove? pan? (not sure what to call it) is usually quite friendly.
My boyfriend doesn't really like this place that much, he says it gave him a stomachache last time we went. But I've never had a problem like that and neither have my coworkers.
This place is very filling and gives quick service! Would recommend if you have friends who are picky about what they eat.
I have eaten at the Great Wall on Denman on many, many occasions and am never disappointed in the quality of either the food or the service. For a miniscule $11.95 you get all the delectable Mongolian food you can eat, expertly cooked by their attentive chefs at the big, circular, steel Mongolian grill at the end of the food line.
The concept is simple: for a set price you go up to the food line, fill your large bowl with all the chicken, pork, lamb and/or beef you wish, then add a vast selection of vegetables and top it off with a number of tasty, zesty sauces which impart the wonderful flavor to the food. The chef then cooks it right in front of you which takes one to two minutes.
The quality of the food is excellent. You also get complimentary rice, soup and an egg roll to eat brought to your table by a very accommodating waitress. I rarely eat the extras (except the excellent soup) so as to save room for the Mongolian grilled food!
The level of cleanliness of this restaurant is quite reasonable including the clean washrooms. This is in contrast to other similarly themed restaurants where the floor can be greasy, especially the cooking area.
Overall, I would rate the Great Wall Mongolian BBQ on Denman very highly. The only real problem is that parking is scarce and frequently hard to find.
This restaurant is AMAZING!!! I did put a full 5 for ambiance, which isn't quite right.. but what do you expect for all you can eat $11.95 Mongolian food? A beautiful setting & music? NO. But it has comfy seating, friendliness all around, and very clean everywhere (except ppl drop veggies on the ground in the veggie area). The food is amazing.. I would definitely recommend to go any time.. except they've closed from a fire for renos! So if the owner is reading this.. PLEASE open again! I'm so scared your not going to open again!!
A bit surprised to be the first to review this restaurant since this restaurant has been open for quite some time now. First time here must have been almost 10 yrs ago. Came here after the beach on a sunday night due to a craving for a healthy meal and a cheap one at that!
The place was packed when we arrived at about 6pm, we were second in line. After being seated we went up to get our food. The items have not changed one bit. Meats to choose from are beef, lamb, chicken and pork all sliced thinly, curled and frozen. There are plenty of veggies to choose from such as sui choy, sprouts, broccoli, mushrooms, and tofu. You then choose your own sauces and if your not sure which ones to use they have a chart that shows how to mix the sauces. I recommend the house special with an extra scoop of mongo pau! They then cook for you on this grill with a long wooden stick.
For dinner its all you can eat at 11.99 (or was it 12? sorry) either way i thought it was a very good deal for what you get. WIth your meal you also get soup, rice, and a fried pastry.
Overall, its a good place to go when you're hungry and looking for a hot and fairly healthy meal!! I definitely recommend this place!
Haven't been here in a while but was pleasantly surprised to see that they had finally renovated. It looks a lot cleaner and brighter. The same set-up but it works. The food is great and the value is excellent. The only downside is that we had to go up to the cashier to Order our drinks as we had a hard time flagging down our waitress. A huge party of 13 people arrived and there was only one chef so the lineup was huge and there was only 1 chef. Staff was friendly but it would have been nice to see the waitresses once in a while. We left feeling full and happy. We will return.
closed due to fire but as of yesterday, they are now re open. EVERYONE ENJOY, Cant wait to hit this place up again. We have been going there for so many years and it was horrible being without it for the year and a half that it was closed. We will be eating there every day now to get our fix. absolutely delicious
