The Gramercy Grill is a west side restaurant with a downtown vibe where fresh local ingredients are used to create a menu of Internationally inspired dishes.
Went here for dine out vancouver the other night. The owner was very nice and it was such a contrast to her servers, who all looked like they had a thorn in their backsides. Waited for the longest time to be seated without being acknowledged by any of the servers passing by or by the bartender who was right at the front door. Why would such a bubbly and friendly owner choose these not so happy people to work for her is beyond my comprehension. The waitress did what she had to do, no more and no less, no talking to us, no making us comfortable, just asking us what we'd like to drink what we'd like to have, and delivering the food. The service experience made this place a disaster even if the food was decent.
On the other hand, I tried the squash ravioli, and thank god I had the great idea of adding chicken to it for extra charge, because without the chicken, the squash ravioli would've been bland, (and i like squash ravioli too!) Seriously, would have been unbearable to eat without the chicken. My friend had the upgraded item roast, and it came drenched in sauce. He said it tasted nice, but i thought it was swimming in it's own sauce, which turned off the dish for me!
The ambiance was decent and nice and the only thing that was ok compared to the owner's nice demeanor.
Boy i wish she would just read these reviews about her staff and get a clue!
'Smart Casual' - great food, service and ambience with uber-friendly staff. Bar (w/ sports TV) or table seating (inside + patio). Many regular patrons - always a good sign! Has a very comfortable 'feel' whether you are a first-time visitor or a frequent customer. Consistently delightful experience for brunch, lunch, dinner or just a drink or dessert. Highly recommend.
The last time I had a dinner here I was displeased with the wine and the manager said perhaps I was not used to drinking wine of this caliber.
Its true I was defintley used to better wine, even from that vineyard.
I did like the layout and from the outside it was certainly appealing. I am so glad that there has been growth in quality west side eateries. Just not here.
This place has been around for a while and, until recently, I used to love it. I can't believe how much everything has dropped off. I'm fairly open-minded on the whole, but someone is not getting their message across to their staff. I can understand your staff drinking in plain view of the customers at a bar, but this is an upscale-casual restaurant, no? Tsk, tsk...what a shame...downhill....avoid.
Terrible experience. We arrived at the Gramercy Grill last weekend only to be greeted by a waitress with a scowl on her face and an attitude that said she did not want to be there (Thought the irish were known for being friendly...not in this case!).
By the time the food came around....quite some time after ordering (and it wasn't a busy night), my mother- in-law tried her seafood pasta and was greeted by a black hair on the end of her spoon!! We sent the pasta back to the kitchen and waited another 45 minutes before receiving another plate. Clams were overdone and fishy tasting....what a waste of time and money.
At the end of the night we had to search for the waitress to get our bill. The bartenders were drinking behind the bar, we watched them do shot after shot.
I would NEVER recommend this place!
Warm sophisticated neighborhood atmosphere. Fun relaxed. Despite some reviews the service is near perfect. And the food. Killer! Dennis is the most underrated chef in Van. I dine everywhere in Van. and I am critical. Trust me on this one! I've been there three nites this week. I loved the buffalo mozzarella salad, the cornish game hen special.
While visiting Vancouver, my cousin, a resident of the city, took us to the Gramercy Grill, her first visit also. I would recommend this restaurant very highly. The service was impeccable, the food superb - we have dined throughout the world and the Gramercy Grill is right up there with the best. The duck breast melted in the mouth & was beautifully presented. We'll be back !! (someday).
